OTHER PROGRAMS

1) Millet Mela

Save Water Campaign was conducted in Huildore village of Sira taluk, Tumkur district on 15th of June 2016 under the assistance of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Bangalore. The Program was intended to create awareness among people about rain water harvesting, conservation, utilization and management

Tumkur district is now recognized as millet bowl of Karnataka and capital of millets due to wide range of millet cultivation since olden days to present days, agro-climate of the district (Soil, rain fall, weather, cropping pattern) is most suitable. Millet cultivation has been declined gradually from 1980-2010 due to poor market and less price. In the last five years Millet Manthra became popular due to ill effect of polished & processed white food, by god grace some of the organizations involved in graduating, awakening people and community on millet diversity, richness of nutrients, production, m u l t i p l i cat i o n , va l u e a d d i t i o n a n d consumption.

Two Days Millet Mela at Tumkur has been conducted under NABARD-FSPF fund along with Tumkur University, Sahaja Samruda, Dahanya and ORDER organization on 22nd -23rd October 2016. Mela is organized to aware, empower, encourage and motivate farming community to grow millet crops rather than commercial crops which requires huge investment and maintenance. Millets are drought resistant, easy to cultivate and adoptable to climate change.

2) Save Water Campaign

Around 120 people including SHG members, FPO members and students are participated in the program. Sri J.S.Veerabhadran, Nabard -Ddm spoke about people responsibility in rain water harvesting, conservation and proper utilization. Water is a finite resource, everyone should think about its importance and harvest each drop of rain water and conserve it, apply roof water harvesting, bore well recharge and watershed measures to conserve water, which goes as runoff during rainy season.

Mr. G.V. Raghu spoke about people should understand the changes happen in rainfall, season, temperature and cropping system due to poor management of water, trees are the biological measures to conserve water, and they keep it around the year, so plating of trees plays major role in balancing water availability.
