EMSA Student
Taskforce!
at the 24th SESAM Annual Meeting
Bilbao, Spain
June 27-29 2018
AYKUT UCAR , TURKEY
SESAM’18 was an unforgettable experience
for me. As part of the student taskforce, I
had chance to attend various workshops
and presentations and talk with many
successful people in their own fields. This
experience helped me understand what
more I can do as an MD in the future.

The speakers introduced a new system to the
participants in the emergency management,
putting ‘CARE’ in the center and all other
components around it. They opposed the idea to
put patient’s care in the center and they
proposed to put care itself in the center,
because the care for ourselves is as important
as patient’s care to be effective and happy.
Workshop:
Circle of care
During the Workshop 3C: ‘Multimedia in
Simulation: using it in light of how human mind
works’ held by Luciana Rodriguez Guerineau and
Briseida Mema, the speakers talked about
benefits of multimedia usage in presentations.
The participants had the chance to develop
their own teaching topic and material with
group discussion.

SESAM conference was a beautiful
opportunity for me to explore what
technology has to offer medical education!
As a person who considers making a
residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics; I
delivered my first baby in SESAM as I was
introduced to a very realistic cesarian
section simulation. It is incredible how much
one can learn from patient simulations!

KEYNOTE SPEECH :
DR . NASS IR NAVAB
In his keynote speech, Dr. Nassir Navab
shared with the audience the most
recent developments on how computers
can be used to enrich the learning
experience. Integrating Medical Image
Computing & Advance Data
Visualization, Computer Vision,
Machine Learning, and
Computer/Robot Assisted Interventions
with the curricula could step up the
medical students skills and easen the
learning curve.
Representatives from the Copenhagen Academy
of Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES)
made a fast introduction into how one can
involve medical students as teachers in a
simulation centre and how to create believable
simulation scenarios. The workshop involved demo
scenarios of a patient with a cardiac infarction.
Workshop:
Behind the Scenes:
Students in Advanced
Simulation
Held by Gerry Gormley and Debra Nestel, the speakers talked about
how to embrace, make and improve qualitative research in the field of
medical simulation, focusing on the three key points: which are
purpose, worldview (stance), and methodology. The participants had
the chance to exercise on the qualitative research questions they have
developed during the session.
