    Authorship should incorporate and should be restricted to those who have contributed

    substantially to the work in one or more of the following categories:

    • Conceived of or designed study

    • Performed research

    • Analyzed data

    • Contributed new methods or models

    • Wrote the paper

    Naunyn!chmiedeberg"s Archives of Pharmacology will consider manuscripts in all #elds

    of pharmacology for publication as full papers or $apid communications% &he publication

    must make a signi#cant contribution to pharmacological knowledge% &he proceedings of 

    meetings of the 'eutsche (esellschaft f)r e*perimentelle und klinische Pharmakologie

    und &o*ikologie are published separately as supplements%

     &he +ournal publishes invited reviews, original articles and short communications%

    When submitting a contribution that is part of a !pecial -ssue please include the

    Editorial procedure

     &he 1anaging 2ditor assigns each manuscript to one of the editors or to a guest editor%

     &he editor selects the referees, corresponds with the authors and makes the #nal

    decision as to whether the manuscript is accepted% $apid communications are generally

    edited by the 1anaging 2ditor in order to keep the publication delay to a minimum%

    When a manuscript is returned for revision, it should be resubmitted within four months3

    otherwise it may be regarded as a new manuscript% When a revised manuscript is

    submitted, the original version should also be returned% &o avoid unnecessary delays, manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with

     +ournal re4uirements%

     &he -ntroduction should state the purpose of the investigation and give a short

    review of the pertinent research%

     &he methods section should follow the -ntroduction and should provide

    enough information to ensure the reproducibility of the e*perimental work%

     &his includes that the full chemical name must be given for all compounds

    identi#ed by code name only% !imilarly, the se4uence of primers used in

    molecular biology e*periments etc% should be reported%

    • $esults

     &he $esults section should describe the outcome of the study% 'ata should be

    presented as concisely as possible, if appropriate in the form of tables or#gures, although very large tables should be avoided% -n short papers, there

    may sometimes be advantages in combining the $esults section and the

    'iscussion 6$esults and discussion7%

    • 'iscussion

     &he 'iscussion should be an interpretation of the results and their signi#cance

    with reference to work by other authors%

    1anuscripts submitted as $apid communications should be brief and contain

    complete series of e*periments with results of unusual interest% A $apid

    communication should normally not e*ceed >5H printed pages, including not

    more than two displayed items 6#gures, tables7% &he review process is

    accelerated% Inly minor revision is normally allowed% Papers appear in the

    ne*t available issue after acceptance% Authors are asked to e*plain in the

    letter that accompanies the manuscript why the data merit publication in this

    • 2ach #gure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the

    • No punctuation is to be included after the number, nor is any punctuation

    to be placed at the end of the caption%
