N-KOM together with Nakilat and NDSQ hosted a successful visit by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce (QCC) at the shipyard on 8th June 2014. The visit comes part of the shipyard’s effort to heighten awareness for the local maritime industry and build up Qatar’s maritime cluster, in line with the country’s National Vision 2030. Delegates from QCC gained first-hand knowledge on the operational requirements of the facility during their tour and a better understanding of how local companies have a big role to play in supporting and promoting the maritime industry in Qatar.

Two of our Projects Managers, Akash Malhotra from the Offshore division and Mohamad Abdelmonem from the Marine division, were chosen to represent N-KOM at Keppel’s Inspiring Leader Summit held in Singapore from 19-28 June 2014. The summit, which saw participation from most of Keppel’s business units, presented a valuable opportunity for them to network, improve personal and professional effectiveness as leaders and get better acquainted with Keppel’s culture and various business segments. This was achieved through immersion programmes, management sharing sessions case-studies and workshops during the intense 10-day programme, which culminated with the Outstanding Keppelite Award. Mohamed Abdelmonem was one of the three recipients for this prestigious award, which recognizes employees with exemplary core values and outstanding work performance.

Humbled by this award, Abdelmonem said, “I am grateful to the management for recognizing my work at N-KOM and for the oppor-tunities given over the past few years. This award has motivated me to improve myself further as a role model and to engage and develop the next line of talents, similar to what has been done for me. In N-KOM, I have learnt that you can accomplish anything so long as you have passion, commitment and perseverance. These are the core values that I abide by today and encourage everyone to follow – always believe you CAN DO!”

Making a differenceto the turtles

A recent survey done by the Qatar Petroleum HSE Department showed that the sea turtle nesting this year was a great success, with a seven-year record high number of nests found on the Northern Beach in Ras Laffan Industrial City. In preparation for the nesting season, N-KOM had earlier participated in the Turtle Beach Clean-Up Day organized at the beach back in March 2014, with 300 volunteers from the company combing the area for litter and waste materials to create a conducive nesting environ-ment for these lovable sea creatures.
