Module II

Clinical Application of Myofunctional Therapy

20-21 April 2018 9am - 5pm

Myofunctional Orthodontic treatment for ages 3 -15.

Airway correction for kids and adults.

Immediate diagnosis and treatment of TMJ Disorder.

The course is open to Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists, Oral Health Therapists, Dentists, Orthodontists and Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, ENTs and Sleep Physicians.

Myofunctional Therapy is now considered the ‘missing link’ in orthodontics, sleep apnea and TMD treatment. The largest Myofunctional Therapy company in the world, Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC), is now offering a hands-on mini-residency to qualify members of the dental and medical fields as Myofunctional Therapists.

The course will include the basics in anatomy and physiology of the Orofacial Musculature. However, it will be the first course globally to also offer real patient contact as part of the training process.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn from the world’s pre-eminent experts in the field and gain an insight into the only system of Myofunctional Therapy that has been successfully integrated into dental, orthodontic, TMJ and sleep practices in over 100 countries around the world.

Learning outcomes:

• Ability to diagnose myofunctional issues

• Ability to deliver a patient consultation on myofunctional issues and treatment

• Learn about the history of myofunctional therapy and traditional myofunctional techniques

• Learn how to deliver myofunctional activities to a patient in the 21st century

• Hands-on knowledge delivering myofunctional activities to live patients, under supervision from experienced practitioners

Dr. Rohan Wijey is the Clinical Director and Senior Lecturer of Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) and CEO of the Myobrace Pre-Orthodontic Centers®.

His Myofunctional Orthodontics journey began with MRC in 2007 under Dr. Chris Farrell’s tutelage, and he has since lectured across five continents and has had numerous articles published in orthodontic and paediatric journals around the world.

During his time at MRC, he has seen the worldwide acceptance of Myofunctional Orthodontics grow rapidly, to the point where the Myobrace® and Trainer Systems are now some of the most widely used early intervention orthodontic treatments in the world.

Despite his heavy lecturing schedule, he remains very much involved in clinical practice, dividing his time between Myobrace® and Myosa® Centers owned and operated by MRC in Australia.

Dr. Rohan Wijey B Oral H (Dent Sci), Grad. Dip. Dent., O.M. (Clinical Director)

Ms. Vanee Ganesaratnam is a foundation member of the Myobrace Pre-Orthodontic Center®, and has worked alongside Dr. Chris Farrell (MRC CEO and Founder) since 2005 to develop its philosophy and novel approach to early Myofunctional Orthodontic treatment.

Vanee’s myofunctional education began in the USA, where her eyes were opened to the benefits and potential of myofunctional therapy. Ms. Ganesaratnam gained her qualifications as an orofacial myologist in 2009, which was approved by the International Association of Orofacial Myology

(IAOM). She has since completed myofunctional training in a number of other countries worldwide.

Vanee learned how simple exercises for the orofacial muscles produced significant improvements in not only a child’s malocclusion, but also facial development and overall health. She has now dedicated her efforts to training other professionals around the world in this field, based on her experiences from the Myobrace Pre-Orthodontic Center®. Vanee is also currently completing the prestigious Sydney University Masters in Sleep Medicine program, and has been pivotal in bridging the gap between myofunctional sciences and orthodontic, TMD and sleep treatment.

Ingrid Seibert B Oral H (Dent Ther), O.M. (Orofacial Myologist)

Ms. Seibert graduated as an oral health therapist from Griffith University (Qld, Australia) in 2009. Since achieving her qualification, she has been primarily involved in peadiatric dentistry with her focus on a holistic approach. Seeing a large amount of children with a developing malocclusion prompted Ms. Seibert to investigate more preventive forms of orthodontic treatment, which focused on the causes of

LECTURERS

For more than 27 years, Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) has recognised breathing disorders as the major cause of malocclusion, poor jaw growth and TMJ Disorder. By effectively changing the way orthodontics for children is performed, the Myobrace® myofunctional orthodontic system, by MRC, fundamentally delivers airway and habit correction to resolve orthodontic problems.

malocclusion rather than the symptoms.

In 2010, Ms. Seibert obtained her qualification as an orofacial myologist and continued to research methods for early treatment of malocclusion before joining MRC in 2011.

Originally from Brazil, Ms. Seibert has shared her knowledge and clinical experience with Brazilian and South American dental professionals during lectures in Brazil.

MRC fills the need for less mechanical and more biologically based, myofunctional pre-orthodontic treatment by offering a wide range of modalities that address the underlying causes of malocclusion and airway dysfunction.
