Book ProposalStatement of Aims
Background: derived from research, practice and teaching.Rationale: a collection of engineering applications in the area of water resources including:
hydrology, hydraulics, irrigation, water environment, and Linear Programming applications. It concentrates on how to put design calculations in spreadsheet form.
Approach: make design calculations easier and more efficient without learning much about programming, use of graphics, statistics and optimization tools available in EXCEL.
Features: the simple use of a powerful computational tool to carry out water resources calculations with practical examples.
Definition of Market
Readership: aimed for practicing engineers, engineering instructors, can be bought by educational institutions and government and private design offices, will be read by engineers, professionals, and engineering students, it has an international appeal since the examples used are of global importance and reflect the state of the art practices, it can be sold in the States, Europe, the Far and the Middle East, the subject is basic engineering topics and the approach is used already.
Level: undergraduate engineering students, and probably diploma level, the book takes the reader to a higher professional level.
Courses: recommended for third year engineering students as a supplementary book on the main subjects: hydraulics, hydrology, irrigation and environmental engineering, or as main text on a series of courses that can be titled computational hydraulics or hydrology, irrigation design calculations, computational environmental hydraulics, project management, or network problems.
Existing Books: there is no clear competitor, since the available books are less specialized and do not follow the same approach, I find my book more clear and the examples cited are more practical. The following are some samples of related books,
Quattro Pro for Scientific and Engineering Spreadsheets, R.G.Parks, Springer-Verlag, 1992
Computerized Environmental Modelling, J. Hardisty, D Taylor, S. Metcalfe, John Wiley & Sons, 1993
Spreadsheet Tools for Engineers, B. Gottfried, McGraw-Hill, 2000 Spreadsheets in Science and Engineering, G. Filby (Ed.), Springer-
Verlag Berlin Heidelberg, 1998
