Overview of Defects and Recalls Reporting Module

• After obtaining a certificate of conformity, vehicle and engine manufacturers are required to submit a number of reports to EPA under a variety of compliance programs.– Manufacturers should submit compliance reporting data to the

Engines and Vehicles – Compliance Information System (EV-CIS) in accordance with the regulations

• Manufacturers are currently submitting their defect and recall reporting information as documents via the Upload Compliance Documents module in the Verify system.

• The new EV-CIS Defects and Recalls compliance reporting module will support the defect and recall reports based on regulations in Parts 85 and 1068.

Deployment Information

• The Defects and Recalls Reporting Module is scheduled to be deployed to production no earlier than the end of February 2018. The exact deployment date is still being determined. We will issue a Manufacturer Guidance Letter once the date is finalized.

• All new Defect Reports, Investigation Reports, Recall Reports, and Remedial Plans should be submitted using the new module once it is deployed.

• Quarterly Reports associated with recalls submitted through the new module should also be submitted using the new module.

• For any recalls submitted using today’s process (either fillable PDF files or Excel spreadsheets uploaded via Verify’s Upload Compliance Documents Module), the remaining Quarterly Reports that need to be submitted for those recalls should also be submitted using today’s process.
