2/150
Upon arrival in Santiago, Chile, I was taken to the Sheraton Hotel for the
first night. This is the bed I had to sleep in. Tough living, huh?
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
3/150
This was the desk in the room. To the right of the desk was a 32
flat screen TV. It was interesting watching TV in Spanish with
English subtitles.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
4/150
The star points to where my stateroom was.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
5/150
This is the view of the entrance to my stateroom. I am standing near my
verandah door.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
6/150
Now I am turned towards the bed. You can see me reflected in the
mirror.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
7/150
Now I turned slightly towards the right. With the sunshine reflected in
the room, this view is darkened.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
8/150
This is one more turn towards the right. This opens up to a sofa bed
but being alone, I didnt need it. Very comfortable leather sofa though,
to watch television.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
9/150
This is one side of my verandah
You can see the open door to my suite
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
10/150
This is the other side of my verandah
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
11/150
Every night, along with a chocolate on our pillow, wed see a different
towel animal made by our cabin stewards. This is one of them.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
12/150
This is the Atrium that is in the middle of the ship. The top floor is
deck 8 and the lower flow is deck 7. I was on Deck 10.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
13/150
The casino on the ship. I had a lot of fun in here.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
14/150
This is the showroom stage. It is where we saw the various shows
each night. Its located at the forward end of the ship on deck 7
and 8. This particular picture was taken New Years Eve.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
15/150
This is one of the bars on the Upper Promenade Deck. Its the one called
The Mix. The bright area to the left is the jewelry store and in the distance
is the piano bar.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
16/150
This is the Terrace Grill up on the Lido Deck. Its where you get your
hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
17/150
This was our main server, Bobby, at his station getting food
ready to take to our table.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
18/150
This is Ari, our other server.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
19/150
Every night we had folded napkins in different shapes.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
20/150
The food on board the ship was wonderful. This particular item is a
dessert I had one night. Those are meringue cookies with passion
fruit sorbet. The plate is decorated with pineapple and blueberries
and drizzled with Grand Marnier.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
21/150
The view shown here is typical of what I saw from my verandah. This is
looking towards the forward end of the ship. You can see the left side of
the bridge.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
22/150
This was typical of the sunsets I saw while cruising until we got too far
south. Since it was summer down there, there was very little darkness
and as such, no spectacular sunsets.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
23/150
To show the lack of darkness, I took a picture of the clock in my stateroom
with no flash and only the natural light coming in through the windows. This
is 20 to MIDNIGHT not NOON.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
24/150
To make sure that I hit all of these, I took a picture to remind me.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
25/150
This was the view from my verandah when I first arrived on the ship. It
looks remarkably like the wharf in Seattle as well as almost every other port
we docked in. In the distance is the city of Valparaiso, Chile.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
26/150
Another view of Valparaiso.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
27/150
Beautiful Puerto Montt, Chile. We were only here for a short time so I
didnt take a shore excursion. I did take one of the taxis, though, into town
with some friends to take some photos and do a little shopping.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
28/150
The city is in the distance. As you can see in the foreground, all wharfs look
the same with the truck bodies stacked up.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
29/150
A church in town.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
30/150
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
31/150
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
32/150
Inside a small shopping mall.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
33/150
I did not go into this store.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
34/150
Can you imagine $990 for aspirin?? Actually thats $990 Chilean Pesos
which is about $2 in US money.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
35/150
Now we sail away and bid farewell to Puerto Montt. We are in for 2 days
at sea and then well arrive in Punta Arenas on the 26th.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
36/150
Heading in to Punta Arenas, Chile
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
37/150
I didnt go into town here. I took some shots of what I could see from the
ship and hit the souvenir stand on the dock next to the ship.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
38/150
Notice the use of English words to attract the tourists attention???
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
39/150
Another view.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
40/150
One more.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
41/150
Tour Bus for the Train to the End of the World in Ushuaia, Argentina. It also
took us through the Tierra Del Fuego National Park
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
42/150
While sitting in the tour bus, I took a couple of pictures through the
window. These are other people getting off the ship.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
43/150
The tour bus next to us. Real exciting, huh?
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
44/150
My view inside the bus. Real exciting, huh??
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
45/150
My view of the ship as we are driving away.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
46/150
Another wonderful item at the wharf.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
47/150
Now we are entering the city of Ushuaia as we leave the wharf area.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
48/150
These are local residents of Ushuaia.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
49/150
Heres a close-up shot on the sign.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
50/150
This is a typical house in the better part of town.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
51/150
This bridge marks the entrance to Tierra Del Fuego National Park.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
52/150
Scenery looks better after going around the corner after the bridge.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
53/150
Of course there is always the entrance fee to be paid. Residents pay $4.
Non-residents (Tourists) pay $50 which is about $13 in USD
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
54/150
More of the scenery inside the national park.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
55/150
The park is very green during the summer due to the frequent rain. It
rained while we were touring the park on the way to the train ride.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
56/150
This is the half-way point of the ride. The full sign reads Bahia Ensenada.
This water is at the End of the World
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
57/150
This is the water from the Beale Channel as it rolls on the shore .
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
58/150
This Post Office is the post office at the end of the world. It sits at the
entrance to the pier seen in the last photo. You can mail items from here to
get the Fin del Mundo postmark. I didnt. Too crowded.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
59/150
A close up of the post office.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
60/150
The sign on the pier to the left of the post office.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
61/150
Another view of the coastline.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
62/150
The sky where we stopped to get on the train at the end of the world, after
the rain. They have a saying here. If you dont like the weather,
wait 15 minutesit will change.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
63/150
The train tracks. Wow. Narrow gauge railroad.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
64/150
The train (in the background).
The foreground is an example of the car.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
65/150
Inside the train car. Notice that the No Smoking sign is in
English and not Spanish.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
66/150
This is part of the Graveyard of Trees along the train ride.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
67/150
The river running through the area.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
68/150
The view typical of the mountains around the area.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
69/150
More views from the train ride.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
70/150
This is the sign at the station at the end of the train ride.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
71/150
One final shot of the scenery as we leave the end of the world to head
back to our ship. My camera batteries died at this point so I could
not take any pictures during the return trip.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
72/150
Following our leaving the End of the World we spent 3 days cruising the
waters around the peninsula of Antarctica that reaches up towards South
America. I took a lot of pictures of icebergs.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
73/150
Along with the icebergs are craggy points of land.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
74/150
And even craggy points of land without icebergs.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
75/150
Also some very large ones.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
76/150
And even small ones.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
77/150
We came close to some fairly large ones too.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
78/150
Add this end to the middle in the other picture to get an idea of its size.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
79/150
Some interesting shapes too.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
80/150
This was an interesting pair.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
81/150
This one was 4 miles from the ship and was also more than 3 times the size
of our ship. They made an announcement about this one.
Zoom lenses are great, arent they?
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
82/150
You can see how deep the snow is on the land next to the ocean. Imagine
how much thicker it is inland. The South Pole is on top of land at about
9,000 feet of elevation. It was also about 7,000 miles from where we were.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
83/150
During our time cruising the waters of Antarctica, we celebrated
the coming of the New Year.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
84/150
25 seconds to go.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
85/150
Hooray!! Its 2010. It was only 7pm in California, though.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
86/150
Father Time and Baby New YearWell, you had to be there
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
87/150

way to the Falkland Islands.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
88/150
Heres a shot of the map for Port Stanley.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
89/150
My view from my verandah.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
90/150
Had to ride a tender for this one. Ship too large to put in at the dock.
This is getting off the ship to the tender dock.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
91/150
Inside the tender. The open doorway was left open for the trip.
Nice, cold, and windy.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
92/150
Smart me. I sat next to the open door so I could take a picture of the water.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
93/150
Approaching Port Stanley. The dock is on the other side of this peninsula.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise

8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
102/150
Took several pictures inside the museum. This one is of various ships bells.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
103/150
Back on board ship and leaving the Falklands heading to Buenos Aires.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
104/150
This is the Buenos Aires wharf view from my verandah.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
105/150
Looks like every other wharf, doesnt it?
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
106/150
Were docked in Buenos Aires. I was walking towards the tour bus.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise

In the graveyard to the left of this church is the burial place of Eva Peron.
8/14/2019 My South America Cruise
121/150
The beautiful water as we head north towards Montevideo. Unfortunately,
when we arrived, there was too much wind for the harbor to open and as
such, we skipped that port. Next stopRio de Janerio.
