Motives are relatively general needs or desires that energize people to initiate purposeful action sequences. In contrast, goals are more specific and used to explain the direction and quality of action sequences in particular situations (Thrash & Elliot, 2001)

Motivational theoriesLearning is fun, motivation happens naturally
Students have to be there, they don’t want to be and the grade is the only carrot teachers have.
The teacher should find ways to incorporate individuals goals into the curriculum
