WHAT ARE WIND TURBINES? Before we can find out how wind

turbines work, we must first find out “What are wind turbines?”.

According to Wikipedia, a wind turbine is an object which transforms kinetic energy into mechanical energy. Basically that means that the wind pushes the wind blades, transforming the kinetic energy into energy which can be transformed into energy which can be stored and used for electrical purposes.

HOW DO THEY WORK? In a simple sense, a wind

turbine transform electrical energy by having their “blades” move when a gust of wind pushes against it. The blades are connected to a turbine, which makes the generator rotate, thus creating energy. This is very similar to how other renewable sources work, by moving a turbine by steam or other methods.

THE BLADES OF A WIND TURBINE The blades of a wind turbine are crucial to the

function of the wind turbine. They must be specially designed, sized, and weighed so that it is proportional to the wind turbine (being not too small, too light, too heavy, or large, so that it works properly with the wind turbine). Also, the shape of the blades are crucial too, they must be shaped so they tunnel air into the shaft which rotates the turbine.
