Santiago had a dream. A dream of catching one great, large, beautiful fish.

But sadly, Santiago had yet to catch a fish in many a days. Eighty-four days to be exact. But he was very determined, he kept believing that he would catch that great, beautiful fish.

But he still keep hope, and went back out to sea after each day before coming back with nothing. But he knew that if he didn’t catch something soon,he could lose his boat. But then the 85th day came...

On this 85th day, he woke up early, and set sail. And took no company with him on this voyage. Besides the seaand sky.

There were some birds that flew above. And some smaller fish that swam below. But he just kept on

sailing. Looking for that fish of his dreams.

The days passed. As he was about to call it quits… then he felt it.

A small but yet powerful tug on the line. Signifying the fish was a worthy competitor for Santiago. But the fish was stronger than

Santiago, and began to pull the boat farther out to sea.

Even as the sun went down, Santiago and the fish were determined to outlast the other, and kept going through the

night.

After what seemed like eternity, the fish finally started to slow down, as it was exhausted.

The two then wrestled for dominance, being as they were both worn down, from their all night tug-of-war.

Santiago knew that this would be his best catch of his life, his dream fish, his trophy.

But, he made it, he caught his dream fish. Overpowering and outlasting it’s endurance.

About the AuthorI am Kaitlyn Shadof, a 15 years old

sophomore living in Greenwood, WI. I am from Janesville, WI where I spent a good majority of my childhood. I am an only child. I enjoy playing with my two dogs, writing, drawing, and reading. I actually don’t have a favorite author,

since I really can’t just pick one...there are so many good authors. The picture starting from the left, is my mother, my older dog Harley, the doggie santa in the middle, my younger dog Muppet,

and myself...you know, that fluffy haired blonde girl on the end there!

Yup that’s me.
