Photo PosterMy Family
Prepare• Use Mini Flashcards 52-61 to present and
teach family member vocabulary words. Hold up the cards of family members one by one, each time asking Who’s this?
• Use Mini Flashcards 62-67 to present and teach the vocabulary words that describe family members. Show Mini Flashcards 62–67 one at a time for students to discuss.
• Have students look at the Family Photo project spread. Point to the family photo poster the boy is holding in the photo. Say This is a family photo poster. We’re going to make family photo posters, too. This is how we’re going to make them.

Materials family photos; colored paper; scissors; glue
• Write the following steps on the board:
• Discuss the first step. Say Cut out a frame for each photo. The frame is the outside part of the picture. Model the shape of a frame with your hands. Show students the frame and tell them to cut it out. Say This is a frame. Say We need more frames. Model choosing frames from the coloured paper. Say I’m going to choose frames in different colours.
• Say We need more frames. Model choosing and making frames from the colored paper. Say I want to make my poster colorful. I’m going to choose frames in different colors.
• Encourage students to choose the photos they will use. If students are unable to bring in family photos, give them time to draw pictures of people in their family to include on the poster.
• Say Glue your pictures to the frames. Show students how to glue a photo in the middle of the frame. Then say Now write a sentence about your family. Who is in the picture? Move around the room, making sure students understand what to do. Offer help when needed.
Share
• Model sharing a poster. Stand in front of the class, holding up the family poster you made. Say This is a poster of my family. Read the sentences you wrote about your family.
• Invite students to come to the front to share and describe their posters. Ask them to say who each person in the photo is. Encourage students to use words that describe. If there is time, invite other students to ask questions about the photo posters.
