Love. Acceptance. Community.Overcomer’s celebrates Mission Without Border’s vision of a future with hope for every person who walks through our doors. After a year in the role of National Director, and a trip to Albania, Moldova and Romania, it was gratifying and inspiring to experience the vision, acceptance, and empathy of the MWB Community Coordinators. They bring to fruition, our values and holistic approach, to spiritual healing; and embrace through unconditional love, the culturally diverse souls of these communities.

“The most important thing I find at MWB is acceptance from the staff. I can receive services with dignity. My pride is left intact. Regardless of my social or economic class, religious or ethnic background, MWB embraced everything and let me evolve as my spirit healed. I trust the MWB, coordinators; they are here for me.” - beneficiary at a Community Soup Kitchen in Victoria, Romania.

At MWB, we provide our communities, children and families with a variety of basic needs, including one of the most vital — access to nutritious food. We also stand beside them after their bellies are filled, and when they are ready for a greater transformation. This spiritual transformation often begins in MWB’s Soup Kitchens, at Street Mercy vans, or community centres, and continues until they are self-sufficient. The successful delivery of MWB’s innovative services is dependent upon a strong community of committed volunteers, corporate partnerships and creative fundraising by our supporters and sponsors of Child Rescue International, and Family-to-Family monthly giving programs.

Anything is possible when the compassion and unconditional love from people who genuinely care, want to help those who are most in need to transform their lives. We feel the support of a national and global audience that puts loving arms around the MWB community and those who are most marginalised. We are deeply grateful to each volunteer, supporter and corporate partner, and all of you who believe in MWB’s programs and vision. Love is the answer, and we thank you for caring.

In His Service,

Craig ToblerNational Director - Mission Without Borders Australia

Statement of FaithWe believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of Christ, His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose in-dwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ.

In October last year, Craig Tobler arrived in Craiova, Romania on a chilly autumn morning, and met Nicolae and his wife Ada outside a busy downtown train station. They work for Street Mercy.

This committed young couple are here each day of the year, providing meals, blankets and warm clothing as a blessing to the homeless people of Craiova. Their presence is questioned by the local authorities, who believe this partnership between MWB and

a local not-for-profit organisation encourages people to stay homeless, but these men and woman often don’t have a choice.

The state of the economy in Romania provides them with limited choices. Without the faithful service of this couple and their diligent young volunteers, the homeless in Craiova would either starve or freeze when the temperature drops to minus 30° celsius – two choices that are unacceptable to us.

MWB is expanding our local partnerships with other not-for-profit organisations to provide help in more communities across Romania. These partnerships mean that every dollar you donate to MWB is multiplied in the field country to provide more services for each dollar we spend in these communities.

Street Mercy

RomaniaThe only thing they can rely on is that everyday at 12 noon the

Street Mercy van will deliver them a warm meal and a smile.

MORE THAN OUR DAILY BREAD

”At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.” Matthew 18:1-5

My trip to Eastern Europe was punctuated by meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Such was my experience visiting a Soup Kitchen in the basement of a local community church, in Victoria, just outside Sibiu in Romania.

Elle and her father Pastor Alex, have run this Soup Kitchen for several years, and know the regular visitors by name. They are a beloved cornerstone of this

community, and the partnership between MWB and their church, provides access to families and resources that we could not afford, such as the church’s wonderful kitchen. Elle recently completed her Masters in Social Work, and has returned to her hometown.

On the day we visited I met Sergei, the father of Luliana and Gabriel, who usually visit the Soup Kitchen with their mother Angelica. Their children are thriving because

of this Soup Kitchen, and the relationships developed through this partnership, mean that MWB has another community hub for more work by our local coordinators. After they eat, the children stay at the church to participate in a homework club, and share in bible studies, singing and playing with friends they’ve met at the church.

Soup Kitchen

“I bring the children to the Soup Kitchen two days each week, and their mother brings them on the other days. Without the support of this church, and MWB we would not have enough food for our whole family.”- Sergei

Ever wondered what to buy the person who has everything? If you’ve never given someone a pig, here’s your big chance!

If you know someone who would prefer to bless others, already has the latest gadgets, or is difficult to buy for, please browse our Mission Market Online. You will find pigs, chickens and much more on our website: www.mwb.org.au/market

Each Mission Market gift represents an urgent need in the six countries we serve in Eastern Europe.

Last year, we saw pigs fly! They were so popular they flew off the shelf faster than our chickens! How do we wrap pigs and chickens to ship them to Eastern Europe?

Of course we don’t ship any animals or seeds overseas. All Mission Market gifts are real items that are located in the countries where MWB works, so there is no cost or delay in your gift having an immediate impact. While it may seem like a small gift – it will mean a lot to them – and provide hope for a new future and a brighter tomorrow.

Those who purchased a Mission Market gift, funded a range of projects that their donation represented. Livestock, “Seeds of Hope” or a Mini Farm contributed to our Family Projects. A gift of Nourishing Meals, or a Mother Care Parcel funded our Community Projects. Child Projects were funded by School Supplies, and Vocational Training courses.

These “little things mean a lot”!

Our local Mission Without Borders field coordinators, often tell us stories about how a small change can make a big difference in people’s lives. By shopping at our Mission Market you will know that

your gift is helping children and families, to build a foundation for a long-term sustainable future.

How great is it to enjoy a salad, fresh from your own garden! As fresh produce becomes more expensive each year, many Australian families are taking the opportunity to grow their own. Children become excited when they see the very first strawberry or tomato appear, and take pride in their achievements. How blessed we are to be able to provide for our families in so many nurturing ways.

In Eastern Europe, ‘Seeds of Hope’ has been more than a welcomed project to MWB families and communities. With the overwhelming poverty these families face, many go hungry because there is simply not enough food to go around. When the cold of each winter abates, families from our F2F program are encouraged to work their land and produce their own crops. Last year, over one thousand beneficiaries received seed packs containing cabbage, cucumber, beans, lettuce, cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, parsley, celery, carrots, and radish as well as sacks of potato seeds to sow.One family receiving the ‘Seeds

of Hope’ packets and potato seeds considered these a great blessing last spring. They took care of their land, cultivated it, planted everything they received from MWB and prayed for a good harvest. The only cost was some sweat over the summer, but the harvest was definitely worth it. Many families try to buy fresh vegetables over the summer and autumn and preserve them for the long and chilly winter.

Now these families, who worked their land with perseverance, will have enough to preserve and can save their sparse income for other essentials, such as heating their homes for the bitterly cold winter. We, along with our beneficiaries, praise God for the kindness of our donors, for the sunshine, the rain and the wind which together helped feed thousands in Eastern Europe in 2013.

The ‘Seeds of Hope’ parcels are sourced locally in each field country, with the contents varying depending on what is best to grow on each families’ land or in their specific country.

HOW YOU CAN HELP US

I recently caught up with 92 year old, long-time supporter of MWB, Allan Wright. We chatted about his contribution to the life of a 12 year old Romanian boy by the name of Illie through MWB’s Child Rescue International Program. Regardless of his 92 years, Allan’s sense of humour is even bigger than his heart. His quick witted responses left me in tears from laughter but at the same time I was deeply touched by his love for God and others less fortunate.

Illie is in the CRI in Community Program because his family simply cannot provide for him and his younger sister. They live in an old, damaged, one room converted barn with a dirt floor and no running water. They must walk to the village well to collect water. There is no electricity, no bathroom, only an outside toilet. The entire family share a bed which also doubles as their only place to sit. After school they attend the community centre where they participate in activities such as arts and craft and Bible studies.

Here’s some of what Allan has to say about his experience as a CRI child sponsor.

Hi Allan, can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got to know the ministry of Mission Without Borders, Australia?

Hi Tanya! Well I was only young when I was born so don’t remember much about it, but at the age of nine I was born again and have been a member of God’s family ever since. I fought in World War II, lost a few good companions, but the Lord was gracious and brought me home safely.

In 1950 I married the sweetest Christian girl God ever created but after 61 wonderful years she left me and went to live with another man, wealthier than I am. Jesus is His name. Haven’t heard a word from her since!

Church-wise I have been just about everything from Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Leader, camp leader, Church Elder for over 30 years, counsellor in Billy Graham and Bill Newman crusades, involved with Youth For Christ, Gideon’s, Christian Business Men’s Committee, Prison Fellowship, and Jewish Outreach. In my spare time - a Property Developer, although I have passed my used by date, the label is so faded nobody can read it!

I think MWB found me. I received a letter back in 1991, and I actually put it to one side for future destruction but my sweet wife said “If the Lord wants us to be involved, how else could He do it?”. Experience taught me not to argue, so here I am 23 years later.

What prompted you to take on the sponsorship of a child in Eastern Europe through MWB?

A push from the Lord, and genuine concern for the lost, under-privileged people in Eastern Europe. I was also confident MWB had a sound evangelical program and responsible attitude regarding the spending of funds.

How has God uniquely equipped you to be a CRI sponsor?

The Lord made use of a donkey on Palm Sunday and was in need of another one! Interpreted… God created us for a reason and a purpose. We need to be ready and willing to fulfil that purpose for the season that God calls us to.

What does being a sponsor mean to you? It’s simply a rewarding way of serving the Lord.

I understand you recently went on a MWB sponsor tour of Eastern Europe. What was the highlight of your journey?

Meeting my sponsor child and assisting his parents to gain salvation by seeking forgiveness of sin and asking Jesus to be their Lord and Saviour.

What advice can you give to our supporters who are considering changing their support of Mission Without Borders by becoming a sponsor of a CRI child, like yourself?

It’s always difficult to advise others as to how they should serve the Lord. However we can encourage them to bear in mind we are proclaiming the wonderful love of God and the salvation He offers through His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord to people largely despised by the more affluent members of society.

Salvation by forgiveness - Jesus is now their Lord and Saviour

Romina is a 12 year old girl. She has two older brothers - Nicolae (16) and Adrian (14) .

They live and study at a Children’s Home. The Home Directors are their Mother and Father.

Everything Romina and her brothers have with them and wear is due to the home’s directors care for them, and the help of Mission Without Borders.

Romina is an intelligent girl and like every child, is full of life. Her dreams are touching and painful sometimes, but Romina at only 12 years old, has big dreams and wishes for her future.

“I would like to become a good mother. I do not want my children to experience my childhood life. I will do all my best to offer them love and affection that I missed in

my childhood. I also dream about becoming a medical assistant and being able to help others,” she said of her future.

Romina was happy when she participated in the chapel services, sang songs on the stage, played in theatre sketches, and became more self-confident with her personality and her abilities. She also played volleyball, basketball, took part in sporting competitions, and was often applauded and praised by her friends from the camp when making a goal.

“I liked to attend the chapels and Bible lessons the most at camp. They were so interesting and I learned so many important things. Most of all, I enjoyed the Bible lesson about the Tax Collector, because he took a lot of money from people, but at the end, he shared everything. The actor

threw us chocolate coins at the end of the play. I liked to participate in sports games where I ran, jumped and had lots of fun with new friends.

In this Summer Camp I discovered a very important thing - that Jesus Christ is my best friend! I am happy that I can have the Lord Jesus as my best and true friend. I thank God and MWB for offering me the chance to come to the Summer Camp. To get rest, meet friends and find out more about God. I would like to be able to go to another Summer Camp… to have one more chance to live as a family,” Romina beamed.

Summer Camp

RominaRomina’s Summer Camp memories will be with her for a lifetime.

“I didn’t ever imagine that this summer, I could be so happy. The Summer Camp is the most beautiful experience that I enjoyed this summer holiday! ” - Romina.

At the end of May, the children throughout Moldova

heard the sound of the school bell for the last time of

this school year. The bell announced the end of one

more study year and the beginning of the summer

holiday. This summer holiday is their longest school

vacation; that’s why many of them have planned

activities, such as long visits to their relatives and

time to rest. The children are no different to children

in Australia with expectations and dreams for their

summer holidays.

Unfortunately the wishes for many of them are

unattainable and their summer holiday will be with

the same problems and pains as the last summer

vacation.

Why?

A ticket to the Summer Camps organised in Moldova

costs approximately 400 lei ($32), and with the

average family income at only 800 lei ($64 per

month), it is understandable that for these socially-

vulnerable children, their hopes are just dreams.

Dreams FulfilledEach year, Mission Without Borders provides opportunities for thousands of children across Eastern Europe to attend Christian Summer Camps. They are encouraged to make new friends, participate in recreational activities, enjoy nutritious and delicious meals, and learn about Jesus. These children’s lives are forever changed for the better, and they return to their homes and Children’s Homes to share with others, the wonderful summertime experiences they had while at our Summer Camps. These Summer Camps have a profound impact on the children’s lives. They are a safe place where the children can forget about their life problems and troubles, and are offered unconditional love from the Summer Camp staff. This is the place where children feel appreciated, cared for and encouraged from God’s word. MWB Australia thank all the supporters who made the children’s dreams of attending a Summer Camp come true!

SCHOLARSHIPS

Education is one of the most important steps in achieving financial independence and self-sufficiency so MWB encourages all of the children in our programs, to do their best in school and to complete the highest level of education possible. MWB also provides some with scholarships for school fees, transportation, and school books or supplies.

Raluca is an 18 year old high school student and she recently shared her dreams for the future. “My name is Raluca and I am a final year student at high school in Sibiu, Romania. I am in a Humanities course, so the main subjects I am studying are foreign languages (English mostly), Romanian, Literature and History. These are my favourite subjects and I always like learning as much as I can about them. I also have some courses in Psychology and Philosophy. What I like the most is History, and I started reading history books when I was very young. My big dream is that maybe one day I will become an archaeologist.

The costs for schooling are high for my family because seven of us are going to school. During the last two years I taught English lessons to children, so I could pay for my books and other expenses. Everything worked out very well during my high school years but that will change when I’ll go to college. I don’t want to leave my town because my family needs me here, so I will go to a college in Sibiu. I will still have to pay for the college fees, books and other needs, like archaeological camps which I will have to attend if I study at the History College.

I would really like the opportunity to receive one of MWB’s scholarships. I could go to college and study what I like the most, without being a burden for my family (financially speaking). This scholarship will give me the chance to follow my dream without worrying because of money and also do something for myself, study what I love in the hope that one day, I will be that famous archaeologist I plan to be. All in all, this scholarship will help me support my family while doing what I love, and that is studying History.”

VOCATIONAL

tion Hope for the future

The Sarny Vocational Training Centre in Ukraine, is the only opportunity for many students to get an education after high school, for any profession that requires a certified diploma. It has established a local reputation among other educational institutions as a model school, which provides a very good quality education. The students skills, as well as their diplomas, provide them good opportunities for skilled employment and ultimately, for settling into a fulfilling life and becoming self-sufficient.

The Sarny Sewing course consists of five months of classes, and invites students twice each year to apply. Each semester, about thirty hard working graduates receive their certificates in sewing. This qualification is especially popular among young girls after high school, and it provides a good perspective for their future profession as tailors. A great theory component is

combined with a lot of practice and the state-approved diploma they receive, offers them an opportunity to be employed in fine tailoring stores after the course.

One of the sewing class students, Tetyana, has shared with MWB her impressions about the course:

“I’m really, really thankful for the sponsors who paid for my study! I am 18 and I came here right after high school. I am the third in a family of thirteen children. My two older brothers didn’t have the possibility to study anywhere, because my parents cannot afford to pay for them. It’s so great that I can study here for free and can get a good profession! I plan to work in my village after graduation and I will sew at home and hopefully be able to earn money for my family! No matter what, I will have to find a job first, in order to make money to buy a sewing machine.”

”For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ”Jeremiah 29:11

Children’s Christian Education

Oh what a friend we have in Jesus!

Ivanna is the eldest of seven children. She lives in a Children’s Home in Senkevychivka, Ukraine with two of her sisters, as her mother cannot take care of all of her children. Ivanna actively takes part in the MWB Bible Correspondence Course and often writes long personal letters to the co-ordinators about her new found love for Jesus.

“I just love being in the Bible Correspondence Course! I have gotten to know Jesus and learnt that it’s very important for me to pray daily. Now I read the Bible and pray every evening. I’m sure that God hears my every single prayer.”

Ivanna says that the Bible Correspondence Course has changed her a lot. “I know I have to treat others the same way as I would like to be treated. My dream is to always be with Jesus and to be happy. I know that He is my best friend and He loves me no matter what!”

Ivanna and her friend Olena enjoy learning about God through their studies of the Bible. Ivanna treasures all the letters she receives from her teachers at MWB. “It’s so great to be friends with my teachers through letters! When I’m lonely or sad, I read their letters and they bring me so much joy!”

Ivanna met her best friend, Jesus through MWB’s Bible Correspondence Course.

UkraineIvanna cherishes her daily prayer time

with her best friend Jesus!

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.

Within the MWB Community Centres, puppet theatres are one of the biggest children’s attractions. In the hustle and bustle of modern Australia, our children live in an age of television and the internet, but in Eastern Europe our puppet theatres still remain a childhood favourite. The children feel involved in the stories and love communicating directly with the characters.

The volunteers use puppets to engage the children so they are receptive and open to understanding the depth of God’s love.

Eliza is 9 years old and part of the F2F program in Romania. The MWB puppet shows have touched her life. “I liked the puppet plays very much! It was such a beautiful experience to be so close to

the puppets. I’ve even touched them! The story of David and Goliath was so well presented and it was very funny. Through it, I have learned that I can trust God, even though I am so little.” The volunteers’ job was done… Eliza understood the most important thing, even though she is small, to God she is incredible!

The impact of the puppets is priceless. Children can easily relate to the puppets to better understand the Word of God. It brings countless smiles and the children learn many valuable life lessons. Today’s children are our future. Wherever they are in the world, it is important to pass on the clear, moral and healthy teaching of our Lord. Having the Puppetry Ministry just makes it so much more fun!

RomaniaBible Correspondence and Puppet Ministry are great

programs for children of all ages.

I have learned that I can trust God, even though I am so little. To him I am incredible!”

Andrea was 9 years old when his father passed away. He recalls his mother’s tears and despair of not knowing how she will now raise and educate her three boys. His father’s dying words to him were, “Take care of the family. Now you are the man of the house.”

Many nights, Andrea’s family went to bed hungry. The children missed a lot of school and went without basic hygiene items, clothing and shoes.

In early 2000, their needs were assessed by MWB and they were enrolled in our Family to Family program. The local co-ordinator continually heard Andrea’s mother,

Margarita’s same request – “Please help me feed and educate my children, I want them to have a decent life.”

The support came from four loyal and generous MWB donors from around Australia. Andrea praises them saying “The help that came from these generous donors gave us life. I even felt the love of my Heavenly Father through them.” Margarita’s needs were numerous for her family. The basics of food, hygiene articles, clothing and shoes were the start. Then came the emotional and spiritual support to help Margarita and her children to believe they were never alone.

Over the years, correspondence between Andrea’s family and their sponsors opened doors for their education expenses. Each year the children were provided with school materials, school bags and books. Slowly, their situation began to change. Andrea completed his compulsory education and then attended a technical high school. Their sponsors provided all the education expenses for all three children to complete their studies. Paolo received a Special Project scholarship to further his studies at university in computers and IT, Kristian has completed the 11th grade and has also received a scholarship for university. Andrea is now a qualified electrician

repairing household electrical appliances. This has only been made possible by the support from his amazing sponsors back here in Australia. They provided money for tools for his trade so he could continue operating in this business venture.

Margarita was also provided with renovations and items of need for their dilapidated apartment. It all started with a door. She requested a door to keep them safe. A door that simply locked - kept out the cold.

For more than a decade this family’s sponsors here in Australia continued to help over and above their monthly sponsorship commitments.

Special Projects were created for wardrobes and furniture, a fridge, and an entire kitchen renovation. It seems that God blessed them with resources so they could bless Margarita and her three sons. Most importantly, the continual correspondence over the past 13 years taught this family to love God and accept Christ as their Saviour and Lord. They now know that they are never alone. Today the family are close to independence from the sponsorship program. They have their own business and are doing really well. Their MWB Co-ordinator comments “They are filled with joy and they feel safe because the donors have been very supportive. The desire of the mother and her sons was focused on

education and this lifelong dream has been achieved.”

A message from Margarita to her sponsors:

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for us. As a single parent, I will continue to thank you and pray for you, and what you did in our life. Only God knows how grateful I am. You are the Good Samaritan to our family. May God bless and protect you!” Andrea wrote to MWB, declaring that his family being blessed with unconditional love and support was living proof of God’s Love.”

The purpose of the MWB Family to Family program is to meet the basic needs of poor,

disadvantaged families, with the aim that these families are eventually led to

self-sufficiency, just like Margarita’s family.

MoldovaA $40 Operation Christmas Love Parcel brings joy, hope and laughter to so many families in despair.

During Christmas, many families in rural Moldova face a daily struggle to simply eat and keep warm during the harsh winter months.

With three small children to feed, parents Gheorghe and Inga often go without food. “Today I have made boiled beans for dinner, but we don’t have enough for lunch, so we’ll have some tea with a biscuit. At Christmas, our meal is usually the same, because we don’t have money to buy anything special to celebrate” explains Inga.

Gheorghe occasionally works as a porter and earns about 100 lei ($8AUD) a day. Besides this meagre income, his family’s only other provision is a baby benefit of 300 lei ($25AUD) per month. “This money isn’t enough for our family. We have three small children and it just doesn’t come close,” says Gheorghe.

On the next visit from their local MWB Coordinator, they had no idea that he would appear bearing the gift of two Operation Christmas Love parcels, containing enough

food to make their Christmas a true celebration, and Inga was speechless. She had never had so many food items in their house at once. “Wow, oil!” said Gheorghe. It had been so long since the family had such a luxury. “At Christmas Inga can prepare rolled cabbage with rice and also pies and dumplings with the meat.”

“Thank you for these OCL parcels. Our children will experience a Christmas celebration this year.”

Marina lives with her elderly grandmother. Tragically her mother passed away and, at 14, she now runs the house as well as tries to attend school. They live in a one-room shack in rural Moldova. It has two beds, a wooden stove and an old table. There is no electricity or running water. She struggles daily to keep the room warm as there are large cracks in the door where the heat escapes. Marina speaks openly about her daily struggles…“ It is difficult to do

everything. I have homework but I cannot do it. After school, I come home to care for my grandmother. She is very old and ill. I chop firewood to keep warm, then collect water from the freezing well. I also have to prepare a meal for us, it isn’t much, and it’s our only hot meal in the day. I have dreams of becoming a pastry chef one day”. By supporting the Operation Winter Rescue appeal, MWB can provide warm clothing and fuel to families

like Marina and her grandmother, during the harsh winter. Last year over 500 faithful MWB donors in Australia contributed towards this project raising almost $50,000. With your help, the opportunities are endless for Marina and many families should be like hers.

“All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” Galatians 2:10

Operation Winter Rescue reaches the poor and needy children, families, elderly and the homeless in desperate need of help over the winter season. Many families struggle to survive. With the average income around $60 AUD a month, one can only imagine how difficult their daily lives are, especially with winter temperatures reaching below -30° Celsius. Electricity, running water and heating are luxuries many cannot afford.

Moving Towards Self SufficiencyBlessed by their sponsors and part of the MWB Family to Family program since 2009, the Meci family are all smiles.

When they first joined the program we learned that Albana was divorced, unemployed and abandoned by her husband ten years earlier. She was bringing up her two sons under very difficult circumstances, with no financial assistance. The children attended the local school and the family lived in a small house with only two rooms, a bare concrete floor and cooking facilities located outside on a small gas stove. Albana earned about $3.50 a day selling clothes in the street, her only income. In 2010 the family had to sell their home due to an operation Albana required, so they moved into a one bedroom rented flat, with only basic furniture provided.

Thanks to their sponsors and MWB Field Co-ordinators they have received new items that were desperately needed - a new stove, bunk beds, a hot water system, even a new television! To many of us, these are all things we use and take for granted daily, without thought. To them, they came as a great blessing, God had answered their prayers.

Last year, one of the family’s sponsors from Australia reached out to MWB to do more for Albana and her boys. Wanting to relieve them of some of the financial strain - numerous emails were exchanged between MWB Australia and the Albanian Field Coordinator. Albana’s eldest son, Skerdilajd was studying to complete his trade certificate to become a motor mechanic. A profession he hoped one day would bring a steady income into the family, perhaps even an opportunity to start his own business.

Meci Family blessed with the gift of self sufficiency

www.mwb.org.au Overcomers 2014 | 21

Skerdilajd received a basic tool kit to complete his studies and eventually start his own business.

Albana and her family could not have prayed for a bigger blessing. Skerdilajd was nearing the completion of his studies and these tools allowed him to start his career as a mechanic. Through the generosity of their sponsor the family will now be able to begin to provide for themselves and work

towards self-sufficiency.

Mission Without Borders is in the business of Love… With the love of Christ and the love of our loyal sponsors, we are able to bring love and support to those most in need.

Here is the thank you letter recently received by our sponsor from Albana and her sons.

AlbaniaSkerdilajd was nearing the completion of his studies and these

tools allowed him to start his career as a mechanic.

”So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”Matthew 6:2-4

Dear MWB Sponsor,

First of all I want to thank God and

all the MWB workers that enabled

the purchase of the tools for my

son Skerdilajd. When he received his

tools he could not believe they were

actually his own! He was speechless

and we cried together for a long time.

You are such an honorable person

and have offered us a golden chance

to start living a normal life. My son

will use these tools to work as a

car mechanic, and with the help of

God, we aim to have our own service

business in the future.

With our warmest love and blessings,

Albana, Skerdilajd and Igli.

ALBANIA

Last year, our Family-to-Family (F2F) program expanded

with 22 families in the town of Berat and we now have an

F2F community of 288 families with about 1500 people.

MWB opened our second Soup Kitchen, operating in

cooperation with another local church that expanded our

ministry to the outskirts of Tirana, thus bringing a total of

29,040 hot meals served in our Community Centres.

About 1900 children were recipients of summer camps,

excursions, Christmas parties, vocational & educational

courses, and school materials. More than 1200 women

participated in joint MWB and local church activities

throughout the year, including the inmates of our newest

project “Prison Care”.

Over 4500 Operation Christmas Love (OCL) parcels were

distributed to poor and needy beneficiaries country-wide.

A single mother of three says: “We did not feel or receive

love from any of our family members or relatives and

maybe that is why we were also unable to show affection

at times, even to our own children. You taught my children

to be good people; you taught them about the love of

God – because you have that love, and you shared it

unconditionally with us.”

Isn’t this the greatest blessing that God could bestow

upon our ministry?

Sincerely,

Monika Qerimi

Country Manager, MWB Albania

BOSNIA

Borders and barriers are being broken down every

year by MWB; the number of beneficiaries in our three

existing Soup Kitchens has increased, and a fourth

kitchen has also been opened in Vares, bringing the

total number of beneficiaries to almost 200. The Family

to Family (F2F) program has expanded to another

town, where we also have a new Coordinator. The

number of Bibles distributed this year has doubled, so

more than 40,000 Bibles have come into the hands of

Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens.

The greatest progress has been seen in spiritual work,

both with parents and children. Twenty of our adult

beneficiaries are continuing with Christian teaching in

the form of a course which we have entitled “Second

Chance.” Children attended summer camps in a new

location, in the beautiful forest landscape of Central

Bosnia. We have many invitations to open Soup

Kitchens, and these have proved to be particularly

effective for cooperation with the local churches, and

as a witness to local communities, who are generally

rather sceptical in their views of Christian fellowships.

Behind us is a year full of challenges, which have given

us the opportunity, with God’s help, to achieve more

than we expected or planned. It has been clear to all

those we serve that Christ is behind all we do, guiding

and supporting us by His grace.

Sincerely,

Dalibor Kojic

Field UpdatesBULGARIA

Glory be to God for the past year of service to people

in need in Bulgaria! In spite of the continuing recession

in Europe, we thank the Lord for His faithfulness and

guidance.

Last year we managed to open a Soup Kitchen in the

small town of Gotse Delchev where the percentage of

unemployment is very high and more than 60 people

were enrolled and they received not only hot lunches

but, compassion and acceptance.

In the capital city of Sofia we launched the Street

Mercy project – delivering hot soup to the homeless.

In one year, MWB managed to reach 1900 homeless.

We are grateful to the Lord for the doors He opened

for us in the prisons in Bulgaria and we are glad that

we managed to share God’s love in places like that

due to this Prison Care project. Through the Operation

Christmas Love campaign we delivered parcels with

basic food products to 2000 needy families. The

Seeds of Hope project provided 120 families as well

as orphans raised in state institutions with fresh

vegetables.

Thus far the Lord has helped us and from now on

we trust and believe in God’s providence. We believe

that with His grace and strength we will be able to

develop what we have begun. God’s thoughts and

ways are unsearchable and incomparably higher than

our expectations and plans. That is why He is worthy

of all the glory!

MOLDOVA

We have seen another year pass by at Mission

Without Borders Moldova, and we are happy

to report last year we noticed a number of

traditionally state-supported Children’s Home

being closed in accordance with the Government

program, and we were able to further develop our

work in communities with children and families.

In spite of these changing circumstances, the

Lord is guiding us towards people who need to be

helped both spiritually and materially by our MWB

Coordinators.

Our vision for the coming year is to continue to

follow God’s guidance in supporting the roughly

5000 Child Rescue International beneficiaries

residing in 58 Children’s Home and communities,

500 Family-to-Family recipient families in 23

communities, and over 150 elderly and homeless

people attending our four Soup Kitchens and

two Street Mercy venues. We would also like to

continue to build up the beneficiaries’ capacity for

self-sufficiency through the various scholarships

and vocational training.

In light of the above, I would also like to strengthen

the important role our supporters play in this

work – without you we are not able to reach the

disadvantaged Moldovan people with a helping

hand and, therefore, I would like to close with a

quote from Scripture: “Therefore, my dear brothers,

stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give

yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because

you know that your labour in the Lord is not in

vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

UKRAINE

I’m glad to greet you on the pages of this magazine.

Despite some obstacles in our work, we have been

able to carry out our ministry, provide for the spiritual,

material, emotional and educational needs of our many

beneficiaries.

The two biggest sponsorship programs: CRI (support to

institutionalized children) and F2F (support to poor &

large families) remain the core activities of MWB Ukraine.

As for the CRI Program, we keep the good reputation of

the charity that provides various and substantial support

to many Ukrainian Childrens Homes.

As for the F2F Program, one of the biggest aims of MWB

Ukraine among needy families is introducing them to

Jesus Christ, so that hopefully they know Him as their

personal Saviour. The F2F Coordinators not only provide

monthly material support but also emotional support, and

included in this is the communication of biblical values. We

also carry out our Christian Ministry through projects such

as Summer Camps, Christian media, literature, Birthday

Parties, dramas and Bible Correspondence Course, just to

name a few.

Unfortunately, we could neither provide Homes nor

families with much needy Gifts-in-Kind (GIK) items lately,

as they were held up in our warehouse due to the

reformation of some Government customs regulations

and the work of the newly-created Humanitarian Aid

Commission. The new Commission could not start working

for several months, thus blocking many Ukrainian-based

NGOs from clearing humanitarian goods, so our logistics

had to stop accepting GIK truckloads from Holland for a

time.

May God continue to bless our work in Ukraine in 2014!

Respectfully,

Mykola Bogdanets

ROMANIA

Our country is facing great difficulties as many people

have lost their jobs and are unable to look after their

families because of the high food prices at the market.

We see MWB’s efforts greatly appreciated and

welcomed by all our beneficiaries. Every single child

and family greatly values the sponsor’s effort in

supporting them through our programs and projects.

Through these projects, not only did we support the

beneficiaries spiritually, emotionally and materially,

we also provided educational support by teaching

them life skills.

God has blessed us with new projects such as focusing

on agriculture and our greenhouse - which was

built in the courtyard of our MWB headquarters.

All the 324 families in the program benefited from

carrots, potatoes and corn and 50 families from Sibiu

also received eggplants, tomatoes, green peppers,

cucumbers and herbs. The greenhouse is a place where

families can come together and learn agricultural

skills: how to prepare the earth before planting the

seed and how to water and to clear the weeds. If they

learn this, then they can do the same thing on their

own little piece of land, and thus benefit from having

fresh vegetables many months throughout the year.

They won’t have to go to the market and pay for it, and

even more, they can save money for other expenses.

MWBs greatest goal is to serve people regardless of

their background. We pray that everything we do,

through our actions and programs, shows our love and

care for the needy. We want to address our warmest

greetings and appreciation to all our faithful donors

and supporters, whom God in His kindness will reward

more than we will ever be able to.

Respectfully,

Eugen Macavei

SYDNEY REPORT

Knitting for charity, especially for children and families in need, is a meditative act of love. More importantly, it makes a difference! So many don’t have the very basics we take for granted. Knitting for the people of Eastern Europe provides an extra dimension – warmth.

To the thousands of wonderful knitters and supporters of Mission Without Borders and our Gift in Kind program, a heart-felt thank you! All the knitted and handmade items received are a currency we use to tell the children and families exactly how loved, unique and special they are. Perhaps the most heart-warming outcome of your efforts is that they receive a gift made with love, which not only keeps them warm but sends them a message that they are not alone, and their plight is known.

As items arrive every week they are sorted, boxed and recorded by our amazing, hardworking volunteers. A big thank you to all the collection points volunteers in VIC, QLD, NSW, WA, TAS and SA and all helpers who faithfully provide their time to process and organise everything that is donated.

We have been so overwhelmed by donations that we need more volunteers in our Sydney Warehouse. If God has called you to bless us, and you would like to volunteer your time, please contact our Sydney office and we can give you more information.

Our 2013 shipments to our field countries had an estimated value of $2.7 million, with three containers from Sydney and five from Dandenong. To give a better understanding, that was just over 45,000 tonne! A great effort demonstrated by our loyal volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible.

Special thanks to our corporate donors, Paul Hartmann Pty Ltd., Reform Clothing and Faith Fashions. Their continued support is greatly appreciated by MWB and the people we serve in Eastern Europe.

We also appreciate the ongoing relationships with other charitable organisations, especially Wrap with Love, Samaritans Purse and Joseph’s Coat. Finally sincere thanks to the many freight companies who provide free or discounted transportation services for these donated goods. Your help and support is immeasurable to the people of Eastern Europe.

Spread the word, enjoy your knitting and remember… Many hands, many stitches, many blankets equals many warm people!

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measu-red back to you.” Luke 6:38

RomaniaOne extremely happy child with his very own blanket to keep him warm.

The Dandenong Workshop has been a hive of activity over the past 12 months! Handmade items continue to pour in and they are lovingly sorted, packed and shipped by our amazing and dedicated team of volunteers.

We receive and sort goods from our volunteer collection centres in Victoria, Perth, Adelaide, and Launceston. Sincere thanks to all who make this happen each year.

Melbourne GIK Coordinator Jenny Grainger visited Romania early 2013. The stories of the families she visited encourage our donors to continue supporting the continuing need in Eastern Europe. A MWB community project in the Romanian village of Nou, inspired a local quilt maker Lynne, to coordinate a group of ladies to make over 90 single bed quilts. Ladies from the local Romanian Baptist church joined in, delighted to have the opportunity to help their home country, meet some Aussies, and practice their English at the same time! This project was so successful that the group has begun to make 130 quilts for a Children’s Home in Moldova, ready to ship in 2014.

If you wish donate to MWB Gift In Kind and you’re not sure what we need, here’s a brief list to get you started. Knitted, crocheted and handmade items including blankets, jumpers, beanies, socks and quilts. We cannot accept baby AIDS jumpers, however we can mail plenty of knitting patterns should you need some inspirational ideas. Drop in to our Dandenong Workshop or invite Jenny to come and speak to your church or craft group in Victoria! She’d love to meet you. Prayers and blessings for a wonderful 2014.
