Athletics Carnival – Wednesday 3 July The Athletics Carnival is on Wednesday 3 July starting at 9.45am. Children turning 8 this year and older are able to participate. Students are to arrive at school at normal time as class rolls will be marked before the teachers take them to the oval. Students are invited to wear their house colours or their sports uniform. Students are expected to have a hat, enclosed shoes suitable for running and a shirt that covers their shoulders. House colours are: Balmoral – Blue, Skellatar – Red, Edinglassie – Yellow, Gyarran – Green. Students will be eating their food throughout the day when the event program permits. Hot food lunches ordered from the canteen will be made for 1st break at approx. 11.45am. Please remember to put your child's sports house on the lunch bag and not their class. During the athletics carnival the canteen will have some snacks, drinks, tea, coffee and a limited amount of sandwiches and some hot food available for parents to purchase. If any parents are available to help time keep on the day please see Mr Adams at the beginning of the carnival. Mr Adams - PE Teacher Netball NSW Schools Cup I don’t like cold mornings. But last Wednesday I was pumped to jump out the door into the morning frost. One of the best feelings is arriving to the netball courts to warm up before a big day of netball! Muswellbrook South Senior and Junior netball teams danced into the Netball NSW Schools Cup by warming up to the Bouncing Bunnies groove Grease Lightning (go Southies, go, go Southies!) Both teams participated in the non-competitive mixed divisions for their age groups. No scores were kept on the day, but the development and improvement these teams have made was clearly evident. The girls worked hard, listening and applying feedback from their coaches into their game and demonstrating excellent team spirit.

Koia made her debut as an umpire for the Junior team and displayed excellent composure and initiative. Emma Benge demonstrated her deep knowledge and experience in netball when umpiring for the Junior team a second time this year. It is so pleasing to see these girls implement their understanding of the game in a different role. The culture of netball at Muswellbrook South was enhanced by an amazing parental crew, cheering on and supporting the girls from the sideline – thank you so much for your time and efforts on the day. Thank you to our coaches – Rachel Smith who attended on the day and Brooke Flannery and Kelsea Bashford who have worked hard to develop the players during the year. Another thank you to Millie Chapman from St Joseph’s High School for spending her time on the day to umpire the Senior team. Another well-run netball gala day by Netball NSW. Looking forward to developing our players further in the future – 1, 2, 3, Southies!
