Mustang  Cheerleader  Discipline  &  Demerits    A.  PRACTICES/GAMES.    Attendance  at  all  practices  and  games  is  mandatory.    Cheerleading  is  a  team  commitment  and  all  Mustang  Cheerleaders  are  expected  to  be  at  every  practice  and  every  game.    Practice  time  is  when  new  cheers,  chants,  dance  routines,  hand  motions,  jumps,  stunts  are  learned  and  friendships  are  formed.    Information  is  also  passed  out  during  practices.    If  you  must  miss  a  practice,  please  inform  Coach  Malone  or  Coach  Shack  in  person,  by  phone,  or  e-­‐mail  before  practice  or  the  game  starts.    You  must  have  a  signed  note  from  your  parent,  doctor  or  teacher  in  order  for  your  absence  to  be  considered  excused.    

Unexcused  absence  from  practice  =  Temporary  suspension  from  the  next  game  Unexcused  absence  from  a  game  =  Temporary  suspension  from  the  next  game  

 B.  TARDINESS.    You  will  be  considered  tardy  if  you  arrive  more  than  ten  (10)  minutes  late  for  a  practice  or  a  game.    On  game  day,  Mustang  Cheerleaders  should  arrive  in  the  Café  after  school  by  3:40  pm.        

Tardy  (more  than  10  minutes  late)  to  practice  or  a  game  =  1  DEMERIT    C.    DRESS  CODE.    Appropriate  attire  is  required  from  all  cheerleaders.    Do  not  roll  up  skirts  or  shorts.    Full  uniform  is  mandatory  at  all  games;  this  includes  shell,  skirt,  bloomers,  cheerleading  (white  ankle)  socks,  cheerleading  shoes,  hair  bow  (optional).    Hair  MUST  be  pulled  up  during  all  practices  and  games.    No  jewelry  of  any  type  may  be  worn  during  practice  or  games.    You  will  not  be  allowed  to  practice  unless  you  are  wearing  proper  cheerleading/athletic  shoes.    Cheerleaders  are  not  allowed  to  wear  their  uniform  outside  of  a  scheduled  Mustang  Cheerleading  activity  without  the  sponsor’s  authorization.

D.  CONDUCT/ATTITUDE.    Mustang  Cheerleaders  are  expected  to  exercise  good  sportsmanship  and  behave  appropriately  at  all  times.    They  should  be  respectful  of  all  coaches  and  fellow  squad  members,  as  well  as  all  cheerleaders  and  players  of  opposing  teams.    Profanity  will  not  be  tolerated,  nor  will  excessive  talking  with  friends,  squad  members,  or  spectators  during  games.      Eating,  drinking  (except  from  water  bottle),  or  chewing  gum  is  not  allowed  at  practices  or  games.    

Disrespecting  teammates  or  coaches  =  2  DEMERITS  Using  profanity  =  2  DEMERITS  Behaving  inappropriately  =  1  DEMERIT  Eating,  drinking  or  chewing  gum  =  1  DEMERIT  

 E.  CONSEQUENCES.      If  a  cheerleader  accumulates  one  (1)  demerit  in  one  week,  then  that  demerit  must  be  worked  off  after  practice  in  order  for  her  to  be  allowed  to  cheer  at  the  next  game  or  event.    If  a  cheerleader  accumulates  two  (2)  demerits  in  one  week,  then  their  parent  will  be  contacted  and  they  must  work  off  the  demerit  in  order  to  cheer.    If  a  cheerleader  accumulates  three  (3)  or  more  demerits  in  one  week  then  they  will  not  be  allowed  to  cheer  at  the  next  game  or  event.    Any  cheerleader  sent  to  the  BMC  will  be  suspended  from  cheer  activities  for  one  (1)  week.    Any  cheerleader  who  receives  a  referral  from  any  school  or  staff  member  will  be  suspended  for  one  (1)  week.    Any  cheerleader  who  receives  a  grade  of  “F”  or  who  fails  to  maintain  at  least  an  overall  average  of  70  will  be  suspended  for  three  (3)  weeks;  after  three  weeks,  the  failing  cheerleader  must  submit  written  proof  that  they  meet  grade  requirements  in  order  to  be  allowed  to  return  to  the  squad.    Any  cheerleader  who  cheers  at  an  unscheduled  event  without  prior  authorization  from  Coach  Malone  will  be  suspended  for  one  (1)  week.    Cheerleaders  will  not  be  allowed  to  attend  games  and/or  pep  rallies  in  uniform  during  suspensions.

Mustang  Cheerleader/Parent  Contract  2011-­‐2012      I,  ___________________________________________,  have  read  and  agree  to  the  above  discipline  and  demerit  system  of  the  Mustang  Cheerleading  Program.    I  hereby  agree  to  comply  with  the  rules  as  stated,  and  I  understand  that  I  will  be  subject  to  consequences  for  not  complying.    Parent,  by  signing,  you  agree  to  be  held  responsible  for  insuring  that  your  son  or  daughter  complies  with  the  demerit  system.        Cheerleader  Signature  __________________________________________________      Parent  Signature  ______________________________________________________      Date  _______________    (Please  turn  in  this  signed  page  to  the  Cheer  Turn-­‐in  Box  on  Coach  Malone’s  desk  in  Room  500  or  to  the  front  office.)
