Glorifying God by … Reaching, Building, Serving
July 2015
continued on back page
From Randy... …VBS observation…IMPRESSIVE! To those who taught, guided, fed, set up, cleaned up, built the stone wall,
provided sound, skyped, helped with crafts, endured the humid temps during game time, were available for medi-
cal needs, provided security and crowd control…Thank You!
And how about that Music Minister who was so in her element as she taught, jumped around, encouraged, and in-
troduced us to new songs and worship. Barb, you rock!...and yes, it’s a Big, Big House with lots and lots of rooms.
Can’t wait to see you in action during July’s Music Camp.
I don’t know if I have ever seen such a big kid enjoying being with other children and youth as much as our
Children’s Minister. VBS is a highlight of Ray’s year. Your good work is appreciated! Hope you can find some
time for some well deserved R&R soon.
…Give Me That Old Time Religion is our revival theme this year. Join us August 3, 4, and 5 (Mon-Wed) at
7pm. Dr. Bill Hagewood of Miami, Florida will be our speaker. His son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jennifer,
are active members of Shiloh.
I would like to encourage you to send Dr. Hagewood a note or a card letting him know you are praying for
him and offer to him words of encouragement as he allows God to speak to him. His address is: Dr. Bill Hagewood

Well done, Patsy—Mom by Jeffery Edwards I n April, family and friends gath-
ered at Belle Grove Plantation to
celebrate Patsy Edwards’ 80th birth-
day. The beauty of this celebration
is that it not only recognized a life
full of accomplishment, but also an-
other milestone from a person who
keeps moving forward.
Born April 12, 1935, to Wallace
and Dorothy Newton, Patsy lived
her early years in the Weedonville
area of King George with sister,
Jean, and brother, Mickey. While in
high school, she started dating Edgar
Edwards. They were married on December
10, 1954, and moved to Nanzatico. Married
life started with a house shared with Edgar’s
parents for about a year, followed by the pur-
chase of a trailer. Sons, Jeffery and Ted, were
born in 1955 and 1958, respectively. In 1966,
Patsy and Edgar cleared land and began con-
structing the house on the hill overlooking the
“flats” and the Rappahannock. Helped by
Clifton and Tommy Jenkins when they were
available, and with Wallace doing the electri-
cal and plumbing work, construction took
over a year. But the dream of a house became
a reality. Patsy lives in that same house, now
full of a number of upgrades, where she still
oversees Poplar Spring Farm.
Patsy’s life has been, and continues to be, a
full one. She was a good partner to Edgar, building a
good life in Nanzatico as he farmed and then coupled
work at Dahlgren with farming. She was a wonderful
mother. Sacrifices were continuously made to make
sure both boys were at every practice for every sport
they played, and had the best equipment Patsy and Ed-
gar could afford. And Patsy was unselfish, going back
to work herself to make money to first pay for braces
and eyeglasses and then to help pay for college for both
boys. Patsy continues to work to this day as the Office
Manager for the Department of Social Services in King
George, where she is the longest-tenured County em-
ployee at 46 years.
Patsy’s spiritual life began at Potomac Baptist
Church. She moved to Shiloh after her marriage to Ed-
gar, where she has been an active member ever since.
She made sure both boys were raised with all the
Church had to offer. Her devotion to the Church is re-
flected in the John Shaw painting that she donated to
the Church in honor of Edgar and that now hangs in the
Chapel.
Her 80th birthday party was indeed a time of reflection,
remembrance, and fun. Patsy is most proud now of both
boys and their families—especially the grandchildren.
Jeffery is a lawyer in Richmond, married for 29 years to
Rhonda Monroe Edwards, with daughter, Spenser Anne,
and son, Sam. Ted is a C.P.A. in Jackson, Mississippi,
married for 34 years to Lisa Hall Edwards, with daugh-
ter, Meredith, and son, Brooks. The smile on Patsy’s
face in the accompanying picture reflects this pride and
this love.
The great thing is that Patsy does indeed keep moving
forward. Contributions continue at work. New adven-
tures are tackled—like a trip to New York City this past
fall to see a show and the Rockettes. And new experi-
ences are shared with family, both away from and at
Windy Hill Farm. Life remains good and blessed. Well
done, Patsy—Mom—we love you.

It’s hard to believe VBS 2015 has come and
gone. Thank you so very much to every single volun-
teer who helped out this year. When we all work to-
gether for Christ and don’t focus on what’s in it for me
then God wins. I am so thankful for each and every
one of you. VBS 2016 dates are set for June 26-30. Be
sure to save the date.
Our annual Music camp is July 13-19. We will
have 2 performances this year for the camp. One on
Saturday, July 18 at 2:00 pm and the other on Sunday,
July 19 at the 11am worship service. If you have any
questions, please see Barbara or myself.

I read this really good book this
summer. It’s called Loving One An-
other. It has many stories about how
to be a good friend. My favorite sto-
ry in it is the parrot who talked too
much. It is about a parrot who said
mean things about the other animals in the pet shop. I
think people will enjoy reading it.

…speaking of Old Time Revivals…have you ever heard of “pack a pew night” or “cottage prayer meetings”?
During the month of July you will be hearing more about such “Old Time” concepts as we look toward revival
services.
…Thanks for your complimentary comments regarding the preaching series on Emotions. I hope you have
found it to be a practical look at the Scriptures.
Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. (Ps. 103:1)
