4. SALE OF APPLICATION FORMS: Between 10.00 a. m. & 5.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday

5. COST OF APPLICATION FORM & PROSPECTUS : Rs. 20/- in cash or in the form of

crossed Postal Order in favour of “BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF PORT OF MUMBAI” payable at

G.P.O. Mumbai. In case the candidates desire application forms and prospectus by post, such

candidate should sent a crossed Postal Order of Rs. 20/- accompanied by a self addressed envelope

of 9” X 4 ½ " affixed with postal stamp of Rs.15/-. Payment in any other forms will not be

accepted. The physically handicapped candidates will be supplied the application forms and

prospectus free of cost.

INSTRUCTIONS AND GENERAL OUTLINES OF THE APPRENTICESHIP ONLY

FOR GRADUATES / DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING,

ENTRY YEAR 2015-16 UNDER THE APPRENTICES (AMENDMENT), ACT 1973.

(The applicant before filling up the application should refer to the advertisement in the

leading newspaper and Mb.P.T‟s Website: - www.mumbaiport.gov.in)

1. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

a) Graduate Apprentice : Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Technology

(GME/GEE) from a recognized University.

b) Technician Apprentice : Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Technology

(DME/DEE) from Board of Tech. Education of a State.

Qualification in Engineering for Graduates / Diploma Holders must be recognized by the

State and Central Government and the University by the University Grants Commission. The

Institute from where the candidate has acquired qualification must be approved by the All India

Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to conduct the respective course.

2. PERIOD OF TRAINING: One year for Graduate/Technician, The apprenticeship training may

be started at any date of the year

3. AGE LIMIT: To undergo Apprenticeship Training, the minimum age limit is 14 years and there

is no upper age limit. However, the candidates between the age of 14-18 years are not eligible to

sign the Contracts, being the Minor. Their Contracts will be signed by their Guardian.

4. RATE OF STIPEND

i) Graduate Apprentice : Rs. 4,984/- p.m.

ii) Technician Apprentice : Rs. 3542/- p.m.

5. The candidate must have registered his name with the respective employment exchange.

6. This Apprenticeship will however not qualify the candidate for Marine Engineering

Apprenticeship.

7. NO HOSTEL accommodation will be provided during the training period.

8. Mb.P.T. dose not offer any job for the Apprentice after completion of Apprenticeship Training.

9. Married female candidates must attach a copy of marriage certificate in support of change in their

name.

10. All copies of certificates testimonials etc. must be certified ones in support of the statements

made in the application and should be submitted with front and back side xerox effects of the

originals and the same should be either in English or in Hindi only. Achievement in grade point is

not acceptable and such applications will be rejected if not supported by the documentary evidence

from the college/institute certifying its conversion in actual % of marks.

11.Mb.P.T. will not be responsible for any postal loss or delay at any stage or communication from

either side.

12. Failure to apply in prescribed form along with the documentary evidences in the required

manner will be a disqualification and such applications will be summarily rejected.

13. Application in sealed cover superscribed "Application for Graduate / Technician

Apprenticeship" should be sent by post or by hand delivery to the Training Manager, Apprentice

16. SELECTION CRITERIA:

(i) The shortlisted merit list (s)(No1,2,3,4) shall be displayed on notice board and Mb.P.T's website

www.mumbaiport.gov.in on or after 27.08.2015

(ii) The listed candidates in merit list (s)(No1,2,3,4) shall be reported on following mentioned dates

(iii) The provisional selection shall be made from amongst the responded candidates on the basis of

no of seats, merit, reservation, verification of documents etc.

(iv) If the listed applicant not remaining present /ready in all respects and duly prepared during the

period of merit list1/2/3/4 will loose their chance and the next applicant /s on the panel merit list

will be considered.

(v) Representative of the applicant under the above circumstances will therefore not be entertained.

(vi) Selected applicants will be required to produce all original certificates/mark lists for

verification with two sets of attested xerox copies of each of the relevant certificates/mark lists,

alongwith ten (10) recent identical passport size photographs.

(vii) Selected candidate will have to undergo a Medical Examination and produce fitness certificate

from the Port Trust Hospital.

17. Surety :

Each of the selected candidates will have to give a personal surety from a Mumbai Port Trust

employee. If the apprentice abandons the contract of apprenticeship training before completion of

the course, such apprentice will be liable to pay cost of training (maximum for an amount of three

month stipend). And if he/she files to pay, the surety will be reliable to pay such of the

compensation amount.

18. REGISTRATION OF CONTRACT OF APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING

(i) After selection the candidate will have to enter into a contract of Apprenticeship in the

prescribed form as stipulated in the Apprentices (Amendment) Act 1973 along with a surety who

should be a Mb.P.T. Employee. The same will be sent to the Board of Apprenticeship Training

(B.O.A.T ) Western Region, Sion, Mumbai-400022.

(ii) The candidate has to give a declaration that he has not undergone apprenticeship training

anywhere, under the Act. The declaration format is provided in the Contract Registration Card. If

the gap between the declaration of the result and the commencement of training is less than one

year, a self Affidavit is sufficient and if the gap is between one to three years, a Court Affidavit

should be submitted in the same format as Declaration. Whereas, a candidate is not eligible to

undergo apprenticeship training if the gap is more than three years.

(iii) Continuation of the apprenticeship will be subject to registration of the Contract of

Apprenticeship of the candidate.

19. TERMINATION OF CONTRACT: The Contract of Apprenticeship Training of an

Apprentice can be terminated on breach of Contract.

20. PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE: This Board will issue a Proficiency Certificate to the

Apprentice who successfully completes one year of apprenticeship training. This training will be

treated as experience.

TRADE APPRENTICESHIP UNDER THE APPRENTICES ACT, 1961,

IN THE ENTRY YEAR 2015-16.

1. Definition : An „Apprentice‟ means a person who is undergoing apprenticeship training in a

designated trade in pursuance of a Contract of Apprenticeship.

3. Age Limit:

Candidates should not be less than 14 years or more than 21 years of age on 01-10-2015 of

I.T.I. passed candidates. The upper age limit is reliable by 5 years for Scheduled Castes and

Scheduled Tribes candidates. The candidate will have to produce satisfactory evidence of his

age.

4. Reservation:

S.C. - 6%, S.T. - 6%, P/H.- 3%, O.B.C –27%, Ex. Serviceman – 3% and Female – 25%

5. Stipend:

The apprentices will be paid the consolidated stipend as under:

First year … … Rs. 5310/- per month.

Second year … … Rs. 6068/- per month.

Third year … … Rs. 6827/- per month.

6. Employment in the Port Trust:

No guarantee of employment, what so ever, is given to apprentices and the apprenticeship

automatically ceases on completion of the term of course.

7. Hostel Facilities:

No Hostel facilities are made available by this Port Trust. Apprentices will have to make

their own arrangement of lodging and boarding.

8. Selection Criteria:

(i) Candidates must apply in the prescribed form only to the TRAINING MANAGER,

Apprentice Training Centre, Mb.P.T. Workshop, Narsu Vithoba Nakhwa Marg, Mazagaon,

Mumbai – 400 010, on or before 11.08.2015

(ii) Applications received after the stipulated date of submission and/or incomplete applications

will be rejected. Mb.P.T. is not liable for postal delay / loss at any stage of communication.

(iii) If the candidate has registered his name with the local employment exchange, one attested

xerox copy of the Registration with the Employment Exchange must be submitted along with

the application form.

(iv) As limited vacancies are available, eligible candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of

merits in the academic examination (preference will be given to the candidates who have

passed the I.T.I. (N.C.V.T.) examination at 1st attempt).

(v) The shortlisted merit list (s)(No1,2,3,4) shall be displayed on or after 27.08.2015 on notice

board at the office of the Training Manager, Mb.P.T. Workshop, Mazgaon, Mumbai- 400

010 and also on Mb.P.T's website www.mumbaiport.gov.in.

(vi) The listed candidates in merit list (s)(No1,2,3,4) shall be reported on following mentioned

dates for verification of documents and selection at this office.

(vii) If the listed applicant not remaining present /ready in all respects and duly prepared

during

the period of merit list1/2/3/4 on mentioned date will be loose their chance and the next

applicant /s on the panel merit list will be considered.

(viii) Representative of the applicant under the above circumstances will therefore not be

entertained

(ix) No correspondence will be made with the applicant in this regard, and no telephone

inquiry

will be entertained in the matter.

(x) The provisional selection shall be made from amongst the responded candidates on the

basis of nos. of seats, merit, reservation, verification of document etc.

9. For Selected applicants:

(i) Selected applicants will be required to produce all original certificates/mark lists/caste

certificate for verification with two sets of attested xerox copies of each of the relevant

certificates/mark lists, along with ten (10) recent identical passport size photographs. In

case, if the candidate is not in position to submit original (s), for the reason(s) that he had

submitted the original mark list / certificate to some other institutes/authorities; he will have

to produce the xerox copies attested by the institutes / authorities, which has retained such

original certificates or attested copy / copies, from the authorities who had issued such

original to them.

(ii) Selected candidate will have to undergo a Medical Examination and produce fitness

certificate from the Port Trust Hospital.

(iii) Continuation of the apprenticeship will be subjected to registration of the Contract of

Apprenticeship of the candidate.

10. Surety :

Each of the selected candidates will have to give a personal surety from a Mumbai

Port Trust employee. If the apprentice abandons the contract of apprenticeship training

before completion of the course, such apprentice will be liable to pay cost of training

(maximum for an amount of three month stipend) or amount to be decided by the Regional

Director, Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training (W.R.) Sion, Mumbai - 400 022),

and if he/she files to pay, the surety will be liable to pay such of the compensation amount.

11. REGISTRATION OF CONTRACT OF APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING

(i) After selection the candidate will have to enter into a contract of Apprenticeship in the

prescribed form as stipulated in the Apprentices, Act 1961 along with a surety who should

be a Mb.P.T. Employee. The same will be forwarded for registration with the Regional

Director, Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training (WR), Advanced Training

Institute Campus, Sion Trombay Road, Sion, Mumbai – 400 022. Candidate will only be

considered as Apprentice provided the contract is registered by the prescribed authority.

(ii) The candidate has to give a Declaration that he has not undergone apprenticeship training

anywhere, under the Act. The Declaration format is provided in the Contract Registration

Card.

12. Extend Period of Apprenticeship training:

An apprentice who unable to complete the full apprenticeship course within the period

prescribed before the final test, owing to illness or any other circumstances beyond his

control, this Port Trust has the power to extend his/her period of apprenticeship until the

next test is held.

13. Leave:

There shall be three kinds of leave admissible to apprentices:

a) Casual Leave : 12 days in a year.

b) Medical Leave : 15 days in a year.

c) Extra Ordinary Leave : Up to maximum of 10 days in a year

after consuming the entire casual and medical leave.

14. Discipline and termination of apprenticeship:

The apprentice must observe all the conduct rules applicable to workmen in the Port

Trust. Any disagreement or dispute between employer and apprentice arising out of the contract

of apprenticeship shall be referred to the Regional Director, Regional Directorate of

Apprenticeship Training (W.R.), Sion-Trombay Road, Sion, Mumbai – 400 022 for a decision.

15. Basic training And Related Instruction Classes:

The Port Trust has suitable arrangement in the MbPT Workshops for imparting basic

training for first 12 months to fitter trade apprentices undergoing three years course. All the

Fitter Trade apprentices are also required to attend the theory classes regularly at MbPT

Apprentice Training Centre or at any other institute recommended by RDAT. Minimum

attendance for practical training will be 200 days and minimum attendance for theory classes

will be 40 Related Instructions classes per year.

16. Practical Training:

All apprentices are given practical training at various sections of Mechanical and

Electrical Engineering Department as per schedules.

17. Uniform, diaries, note-books etc :

Each apprentice will purchase at his own cost uniform, work diary, note books etc. as

directed by concerned authorities.

18. Test and grant of certificate:

Each apprentice after completion of the period of training shall appear for a prescribed

test conducted by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT). All apprentices who

pass the test will be granted certificates of proficiency in the trade by the National Council of

Vocational Training.
