1 December 2019 Multiple District 105 Multiple District Lioness Chairman 2019 to 2021 - Sandie Briault Issue 34 December 2019 Welcome to our pre-Christmas newsletter. I can hardly believe we are five months into this Lionistic year and as they say time really does fly by when you are having fun. I was very lucky to be a part of Chelmsford Lionesses shared charter celebrations with their Lions Club at the end of October, a very lively evening with great food and dancing to a very good live duo. Congratulations to Chelmsford Lionesses for 31 years of excellent service. Another Certification Anniversary I was honoured to attend was Paddock Wood’s 30th. This time a Sunday Lunch in delightful surroundings again with lovely food and a very interesting group of guests to exchange conversations with. Once again congratulations to Paddock Wood for 30 years of service to their community. Another very enjoyable event was Paddock Woods Autumn Fayre which I attended with a fellow club member. There was a delicious display of homemade cakes to enjoy with our coffee and to purchase to take home plus a very interesting selection of crafts made by club members. Many would make lovely Christmas presents. I am writing this message on Children in Need day and I am aware that a lot of Clubs are collecting money in supermarkets and railway stations and also organising a Bingo Night plus a sponsored walk for this very special Charity that always tugs at the heart strings. Thank you all for making time in your busy lives to support Children in Need and good luck with your endeavours. Well done Sleaford Lionesses for filling 52 shoe boxes for the Rotary Club and giving a generous donation to the Talking Newspaper and the local Parkinson group. The local children with diabetes benefited from a donation from the club which enabled them to spend some time learning to care for animals at a Farm Park So Lionesses it doesn’t seem enough to say how proud I am of all of you. You have all achieved so much in the first part of my year and so many people have benefited from your generosity, not only with cash raised but with all your service hours. I sincerely hope your Christmas events go well and above all else enjoy every moment. This just leaves me to wish you all a very happy and Peaceful Christmas. Yours in Lionesses

Official booking forms are now out. Please remember that if you don’t see a packagethat suits you let Conference Coordinator Nicola

Claxton know and she will see what she can arrange to meet your needs.

If we haven’t sold you on coming to Conference yet, we are going to have to bring out theBIG GUNS! We have already told you about Humpty Dumpty the Cannon, we have tried totempt you with games night and trophies and Tailtwister antics, workshops and the all-important AGM. I think we will now have to bring out … FOOD and DRINK!

As we all know, we Lionesses love to eat and drink. Remember that if you come for the entireweekend, you will enjoy a buffet evening whilst playing ridiculous games with the drinks ofyour choice and probably a room cocktail party thrown in as well. And the trophies, of course. On Saturday, you will enjoy not one, not two but THREE full meals as well as morning andafternoon coffee breaks and I’m sure there will be another room cocktail party or two.Sunday morning will bring more food in the form of breakfast followed by a mid-morningcoffee break. A minimum of ELEVEN times you can eat and drink together! And no LionessConference is complete without the coffee or tea before the drive home to say goodbye tofriends new and old. Now if that doesn’t make you want to join your fellow Lionesses atLioness Conference 2020, I don’t know what will. But all this and dedication to makingLionesses grow and prosper, contributing to the AGM and enjoying time with each othershould make this a weekend to remember!

The Sleaford & District Lionesses Club NewsWhat a brilliant evening was had byall at Leasingham Village Hallrecently. The great music from theWrinkly Rockers had everyonedancing from the first song until the

second encore. The would like to thank the

generosity of the musicians helpingus to host the event and everyonewho attended, which allowed themto raise £800 for local charities.

have had a busy time recently with lots of events.

The highlight of our calendar was our joint Certificationevening with Chelmsford Lions Club at the County Hotel in Chelmsford. Itwas our 31st Certification Anniversary and a very special 50th Anniversaryfor Chelmsford Lions. We were pleased to welcome Lions from all over thedistrict plus Lions from Narbonne in France as well as special guest theMayor of Chelmsford. We had lovely food and danced to live music, it was a fantasticcelebration for a special occasion.

Lionesses volunteered to be marshals at the J's Hospice halfmarathon. We had fun encouraging the fantastic runners around the streets of

Chelmsford.

Lionesses dressed up in colourfulclowns outfits to collect at Chelmsford Railway Station collecting nearly£200. Unfortunately new rules at the station meant we were not able to collectduring the main commuter rush so our total is down on previous years, but still agood amount for a fantastic cause.

President Angela presented Lioness Pauline with a bouquet inthanks for demonstrating Christmas Cake decorating during our Christmas Inspirationevening. We also had a demonstration of making a Christmas wreath and a craft stall andraffle. We served tea, coffee and mince pies and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyableevening.

Seven and two Lions attended the Teams4U warehouse where we checked theChristmas boxes being sent to Romania and other countries. Every year the Lionesses from Dursley fillthese boxes and send to Evesham for onward transmission to the children who otherwise would have noChristmas presents at all. This year the Lions from Dursleyalso helped with this. We also go to the local distributioncentre and check that the boxes, filled by ourselves andothers, (there are thousands sent in), contain appropriatematerials and “top up” where necessary, with necessitiessuch as soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, flannels, stationery, hats, gloves, scarves and not forgetting some fun toys and soft toys. It is a really enjoyable and satisfyingday.

Pontefract Lioness Club wereproud to present their 8thAnnual Lantern Festival onSaturday 19th October whichwas attended by our biggestever crowd estimated to bein the region of 4000. Theevening started atPontefract Castle wherepeople were

entertained by Leeds Samba Band whothen lead the parade through the Town Centre into Friarwood

Valley Gardens.Friarwood Valley Gardens had been transformed into a magical wonderland with lanternshanging from branches and lights along the paths.Leeds Samba Band really created a carnival atmosphere throughout the parade and once againas they played while the parade entered the gardens.

The lanterns that everyone had were amazing and it wasgreat to see the hard work people

had put in both at homeand at the workshopscome to life on thenight. Thank you tospecial guests from otherLioness Clubs who enjoyedthe event and helped out onthe day. I can’t wait to be apart of this event again in 2020.

Paddock Wood Lionesses raised a grand total of £227.50,lovely to have other Lioness members supporting us.

went all out for Children in Need bygetting up at some horrible time in the morning andheading to Witham Railway station to collect from earlymorning commuters. We were there for only a couple ofcold and lonely hours starting at 6:30am, but still wereable to collect £134 for Pudsey. The next day, at a morereasonable hour, we ventured into Braintree ShoppingVillage and helped the Braintree Lions once again collectfor Children in Need. Don't know how much wascollected but people were certainly generous and it wasvery crowded so fingers crossed for a great total.

REMEMBRANCE PARADE: Once again this year several members of the Lioness Cubjoined Lioness President Gill at their local Remembrance Day Parade where she proudlylaid a wreath on behalf of the club. Following this part of the parade they then joined inthe march through the High Street and up into St. Mary’sChurch where along with many other individual and groups theyjoined in the church service.

CHILDREN IN NEED COLLECTION: held their annual collection for Children in Need

at their local Tesco Store. One Lioness dressed up asBatman arriving in her Bat Mobile to join her fellowLionesses who were collecting for several hours throughoutthe day. It fun day and the children enjoyed seeing Batmanand receiving a sweet treat.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD/CHILDREN IN DISTRESS: The Lionesses havealso been busy this month covering and filling theirChristmas shoeboxes for “Operation ChristmasChild” and “Children in Distress”. The boxes are now

at the collection points and will soon be on the way to the designateddestinations ready to be given out to the children on Christmas Day. Aheart warming thought that each box is going to bring such joy to a childand help to make their Christmas a happy one.

A reminder to Clubs to send news of any significant Birthdays andCelebrations, as well as Sad News, to the Lioness MD Almoner Jeanne.
