PE and School Sport CPD for Primary Schools
In this brochure we have detailed how working in partnership with MSP can help your school achieve high quality PE, outstanding outcomes and make effective, sustainable use of the sports premium funding for your school.
MSP are currently working in over 60 primary schools to help them achieve high quality, sustainable PE and school sports provision within their school. We base this success on the understanding of schools individual needs, visions and values. We work with the schools to assess their current position, what they want to achieve and how with MSP’s support they can get there.

It is vital that teachers are up-skilled and supported and not replaced or displaced by coaches.
The MSP mentoring program allows the teaching staff to deliver PE along with the support of a qualified coach. The mentoring program results in teachers gaining further knowledge on how to provide the building blocks for high quality PE and developing the physical literacy of pupils. The staff will benefit from increased confidence in delivering PE, a broader subject knowledge and vital information on educating children on health and well being and how to live an active lifestyle.
Within the mentoring programme we are receptive and adaptable to the school’s needs. We can help the school conduct an internal staff audit on their strengths and weaknesses in their PE delivery and we can then design a bespoke package based on each individual staff members.
At MSP it is our belief that it is vital that teachers are upskilled and supported and not simply replaced or displaced by our coaches.
PE MENTORING
Providing supportive scaffolded mentoring, the programme gave and continues to give teachers the opportunity to develop areas such as warm-up, skills, activities and leading onto whole lessons; all backed up with supporting literature and feedback.

Developing skills further, and providing children the opportunity to play a wide range of sports.
MSP can help your school provide increased opportunities for children to engage in sport through extra curricular clubs. MSP offer breakfast, lunchtime or after school clubs which allow children to receive some sports coaching to help increase participation and engagement within school and to help promote healthy lifestyles. As a registered Local partner for change4life we can provide change4life clubs to engage less active young people in positive physical activity and changing fundamental health behaviours.
We have a number of different options available to schools to help engage, develop and promote a healthy active lifestyle for your schools pupils. We can offer coaching in a specific sport to allow children to have some extra specialised coaching. Multi sports clubs can also provided to create the opportunity for pupils to try and explore new and alternative sports which they perhaps don’t have access to outside the school gates.
Gifted and Talented clubs offer further progression for gifted and talent pupils within your school and also change4life clubs for pupils who are the least active and have low confidence who need inspiring or a positive sports experience.

MSP work in collaboration with other local primary schools and MSP to run inter school competition.

MSP can also support your school in organising and running your school sports day. We can provide the events, equipment and staff members to ensure staff, pupils and spectators have a positive sports day experience.
INTER AND INTRA SCHOOL COMPETITIONS
SPORTS DAY
The children loved all the activities and enjoyed competing against one another in teams. The added bonus was that it was entirely stress free with MSP organising everything for us!

The events are always well structured, enjoyable, multi-skilled and competitive. The events underline the characteristics the schools wish to promote: challenge, sportsmanship, teamwork, inclusion and a healthy and positive lifestyle.
— Mr Tom Gayler, PE Coordinator
We have seen our pupils develop water confidence, water safety, stamina and swimming skills as a result of the positive approach and quality of teaching that they have received.

MSP share the opinion of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) that class teachers and other adults who already have an established relationship with your pupils are absolutely the best placed people to make school swimming a success in your school.
After a number of enquires from schools for our staff be a part of school swimming we have trained our staff so we can aid school swimming and the children can have that familiar face on the pool side teaching them to swim. All of our staff also gained a recognised lifeguard qualification to ensure children under our supervision are in safe hands.

An active playtime is linked to a wide range of whole school benefits.
MSP are able to work with midday supervisors to help create a happy, safe and active playtime. We aim to equip your staff with a range of fully inclusive games and activities to ensure your lunchtimes are the best experience for every child.
We can support the Lunchtime supervisors in creating a safe and active environment with a number of activities and games suited to the school playground for all Key stages. We can put in place a playground leaders scheme, which may involve some pupils in the school being responsible for organising and implementing some games and activities after some initial training from their MSP coach.
Ofsted (2014) state that “Providing training for midday supervisors to introduce playground games at breaks and lunchtimes is a legitimate way of spending the sports premium funding.”
ACTIVE PLAYTIMES
The children have benefitted from a familiar face each week; someone who has built a good relationship with them, where there is respect and trust... a professional who really knows the needs of each child.
— Naomi Weaver, Headteacher, St Michael’s Thorpe on The Hill Primary School Page 17
I wholeheartedly recommend MSP to any school who consider that they would benefit from some consultancy and training in how to maximise and improve their physical education and sport delivery.
