Canteen Garden Working Bee
Our thanks to the parents, teachers and students who
helped out at the canteen garden working bee last
weekend. A new, stronger frame was devised with new
netting to keep away the animal intruders. This will
allow us to produce the best vegetables and herbs
possible in the growing space. All students will benefit
through this garden to plate health and sustainability
program.

and Mrs Gray getting their hands dirty.
Lake Ainsworth Fun
Our Stage 3 students have returned from an action-
packed week at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation
Centre. The students and teachers had a fabulous week
of outdoor activities and social activities.
Congratulations to the students for setting a high
standard of behavior and a big thank you to the staff,
Mrs Dibb, Mr Cheers and Josh, who gave up so much of
their family time to supervise this excursion.
Further Planning for 2017
Next year will see the final year of implementation for
our 2015-2017 Strategic Plan. Our three Focus
Directions continue to be:
Enhancing the quality of teaching, learning and
communication through innovative technology
Promoting healthy living and sustainability
Building capacity through quality partnerships
Within these focus areas we have new ideas for
implementation. They include:
Additional laptop computers for learning tasks
Challenging Apps for the iPads
Digital continuum(assessment) tracking for all
students in Literacy and Numeracy
A digital newsletter and communication
platform for parents
Extension of vegetable gardens and student
lesson integration
Mindfulness activities for both physical and
mental health
A new chicken coup
Broad reaching partnerships between three
other primary schools, focusing on best practice
for teachers and improved learning.
In 2017 we are planning to operate two Kindergarten
classes, three Stage 1 classes, two Stage 2 classes and
two Stage 3 classes. Class placements for students will
not be known until the commencement of the 2017
school year due to the weekly changing of enrolments.
Stage placements for teachers will be released in our
final newsletter on Wednesday 14th December.
Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Cass Sutherland
this year. Mrs Sutherland has been a fantastic
contributor to the Stage 2 teaching team and she will be
sorely missed. Replacing her is Mrs Judy Roberts, who
has been appointed permanently on staff at Mullaway
PS. Mrs Roberts is leaving Lord Howe Island to make a
new home on the Coffs Coast. We are looking forward
to her positive energy and expertise in 2017.

Gymnastics Fun
Kindergarten are currently enjoying some intensive
gymnastics fun every Thursday. Mrs Gentle and Miss
Burgess, with the help of many supportive parents, are
giving the students a chance to take some risks and
extend their gross motor skills. It all looks like great fun.
Mr Ray Rincheval Retires
Last week Mr Ray Rincheval, the Principal of Sandy
Beach Public School, announced his retirement. Mr
Rincheval has been an integral part of not only Sandy
Beach PS but our Northern Beaches Community of
Schools for over 12 years. He has enormous respect
amongst his school community and his fellow
professionals. I would like to congratulate Mr Rincheval
and wish him a long, fruitful retirement.
Congratulations Mrs Kathy Gray
Mrs Kathy Gray has just been awarded a ‘Certificate of
Recognition’ on World Teachers Day by the Australian
College of Educators. Mrs Gray has been a highly
accomplished teacher at Mullaway PS for over 15 years
and we are all very proud of her contributions. This is a
very worthy award; congratulations Mrs Gray.
Welcome Tyler
We welcome Tyler into the Stage 2 Pandanus class.
Mullaway PS Ex-Students Graduate Year 12

Library End of Year News Congratulations to all the great borrowers this year! Unfortunately, as we come to the end of the year all borrowing must stop. It would be wonderful if all students can please return their library books and home readers by the end of this week. If there are any issues with lost or damaged books please send in a note or call the school. Sometimes books are returned to the library and not returned properly off the computer, so we can sort these small problems out.

Invitations have been sent out to all the children who completed the challenge. The morning tea will take place in the library on Wednesday, 7th December, 2016 at 11.30am. A GREAT IDEA WE HAVE SEEN AROUND OUR SCHOOL IS TO GET YOUR CHILD’S NAME/INITIALS
EMBROIDERED ON THEIR SCHOOL HAT - THIS WOULD GREATLY ASSIST IN PREVENTING YOUR
CHILD’S HAT BEING LOST! (we believe cost is between $3 & $6 at a local
business in Coffs Harbour)
P&C News
It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is so close. The P&C would like to thank the school community for all their support this year and we look forward to sharing next year with you all as well as our new Kindergarten families. Our next P&C meeting is Wednesday 15 February 2017, all welcome at 5pm in the staffroom (main office block).
Carols Night: We still have the P&C Christmas Carols on Wednesday 7 December 2016 at 5pm, please come along for a fun night with the whole family. There will be stalls from local community members open at 5pm so you can pick up those last minute gifts, have your face painted or purchase a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade. The carols will start at 6pm so bring your best singing voice along with you. We also have Santa making an appearance at 7.30pm and Mr King will read us The Night Before Christmas to end the night. Don’t forget there will be no food on sale for dinner so bring a picnic or alternatively have our canteen committee supply a dinner hamper for you for only $10 an adult and $5 a child but hurry orders must be in no later than Friday, 2
nd December.
Canteen Update: The canteen has had a great year and our new slushy machine is a big hit with the whole school. We would like to thank all the canteen volunteers for all your hard work this year. We could not keep the canteen open without your valuable help, your time and support is really appreciated. Also a great BIG thank you for Tina our canteen coordinator! Tina does an amazing job and works tirelessly for our children to have healthy nutritious lunches. If anyone else would like to contribute any ideas of how to improve our canteen for 2017, or if you have any menu suggestions, we would love to hear from you. We are also looking for new volunteers for 2017, so if you can spare a day a fortnight, month or even once a term we would appreciate your help.
CANTEEN WILL BE CLOSED THE LAST WEEK OF TERM (12 – 16 Dec.).
The last day of trading will be Friday, 9th
December. To run down stock we have a few specials starting Thursday 30th until sold out: Home made large chicken breast nuggets .50c Home made Sausage Rolls $2.00 Chicken breast burgers $3.00

Waste Free Lunch Challenge – Winner Bluegum!
Week 5 saw Mullaway kids focus on reducing packaging and waste in their lunch boxes. The Waste-Free Lunch Challenge is one of Mullaway Primary School’s sustainability education initiatives. By participating, students have focused on better understanding how we can take action to reduce our waste. Waste-free lunches also save money and promote healthy eating. It was a very close race to decide the winner as all classes made a significant reduction in packaging throughout the week, some by almost half. A big congratulation to Bluegum who were the overall winners of our Waste Free Challenge and will enjoy a slushie from the canteen as their prize. Waste free lunches will continue to be a focus at Mullaway with several random spot checks over the remainder of the term. Well done to everyone! Mrs Sutherland
Student Banking If students are planning on ordering a Reward from Student Banking this year, last date to order will be
Tuesday 29th November. Anything ordered after that date will not be delivered until next year.
