Components of the 810 System

Load Unit AssemblyA complete load frame assembly requires theselection of the frame, actuator size, actuatorrod/load cell thread, and hydraulic service mani-fold. The servovalve(s) and other options areselected separately.

The 810 system employs MTS Model 318 loadunit assemblies that are force rated up to 500 kN.This floor mounted frame has high axial and lateralstiffness that improves test accuracy and systemperformance. This load frame is available in a vari-ety of sizes and can be easily configured for manydifferent applications. Please see PerformanceCurves on page 20 for more details.

Crosshead mounted load cell provides an accu-rate force reading for measurement and control. The displacement transducer is integral to theactuator for position measurement and control.

Other options such as crosshead mounted actu-ators, actuator antirotate, hydrostatic bearing actu-ators, and air isolator pads are available with the318. Integral actuator design shortens the forcetrain providing higher lateral stiffness. Low fric-tion actuator ensures the best possible test controland resolution.

There are two hydraulic service manifold optionsfor the 318 Load Units. The 298.11 providesOFF/ON pressure control while the 298.12 hasOFF/LOW/HIGH pressure control with a controlledpressure transition to and from high pressure.

The 858 employs a MTS Model 359 load unit that isfatigue-rated at 25 kN (5.5 kip). This freestanding loadunit can be operated at frequencies up to 30 Hz withouthaving to secure it to the lab bench or the optional cartthat is available from MTS.

The 359 load unit features a generous horizontal testspace between the columns, which enables easy speci-men mounting. Load units with extended columns canbe ordered to gain additional vertical free space.

The basic load unit configurations each use an integralcrosshead-mounted linear actuator with an attached mani-fold. This provides close-coupled servovalves and accumu-lators for improved performance and reduced pressurefluctuations.

A selection of linear actuators are available to achieve awide range of scale force data from 5 kN to 25 kN. Thefull-scale force is dependent on the output pressure of theparticular MTS hydraulic power unit selected. Optionalhydraulic lifts can be provided to facilitate repositioningof the crosshead. FlexTest GTA proven control solution for complex multichannel, multistation material and component testing

The FlexTest GT digital controller features thepower and flexibility to deliver high speed, real-time closed-loop control, data acquisition, func-tion generation, and transducer conditioning formultichannel, multistation applications, allowingseveral test systems to be driven from one con-troller. It accommodates up to 32 modules thatcan be distributed among 8 channels and 4 sta-tions as required, with the option to add 16 userprogrammable digital inputs and digital outputs.

Hardware Driven FlexibilityThe flexible design of the FlexTest GT lets youreconfigure the system easily as your needschange. By adding hardware modules you canexpand your system’s capabilities and customizeit for a wide range of tests. This includes the abil-ity to use externally conditioned signals as controlmodes. In addition, you can use D/A signals aslow-rate control channels for signals like pressureor temperature.

Portable Remote Station Control The optional Remote Station Control (RSC) pro-vides a convenient, portable control interface forcarrying out simple operations, such as specimenhandling and test setup. The FlexTest GT requiresan RSC to comply with CE safety standards formaterial testing applications. The RSC simplifiesmany operations, including operating the hydrauliccontrols, moving the actuator to mount speci-mens, and starting and stopping tests. In addition

to hydraulic controls and an interlock indicator,it provides run, stop, and hold controls; a displayscreen and function keys; and an actuator position-ing control for specimen loading. Once a specimenis loaded, transducers can be auto-zeroed from thecomputer, or from the RSC. For multichannel sys-tems the actuator command toggles between axes.Multistation configurations require a dedicated RSCper station. The lightweight RSC can be located onthe PC table or cart if this is near the load frame,or it can be mounted on a stand by the load frameif the PC is not located nearby.

FlexTest Digital ServocontrollersAddressing the full spectrum of material and component testing needs

Coupled with a PC running MTS 793 software, the FlexTest SE Plus is a higher capacity controlsolution for more demanding single-channel, sin-gle-station materials tests. It supports more hard-ware and software options than the Basic model. The FlexTest SE Plus allows you to:

Take advantage of a wide array of proven MTS test application software to run a wide variety of tests

Customize and automate test procedures Acquire and store test data Generate test reports Network to other PCs Monitor test status from remote PCs

The FlexTest SE Basic is a cost-effective controlsolution for simple single-channel, single-stationstrength or fatigue tests on materials or compo-nents for which a simple command and a singleresult are all that is required. Examples include:

Tensile test, reporting peak load and maximum elongation

High Cycle Fatigue test, reporting number of cycles to failure

Durability, reporting material degradation after block-cyclic loading

Integrates with third party data acquisition and program generation

Hydraulic Power UnitMTS has a hydraulic power unit (HPU) that fitsyour needs. We offer units with flow ratings from3.8 to 114 Lpm (1.5 to 30 gpm) or even higher ifyou need it.

The HPU most commonly used with the 810test system is the SilentFlo™ model 505.07. Thissuper-quiet pump operates at an amazingly low 58dB(A). That’s as quiet as your typical office photo-copier—no pump room required!

The SilentFlo 505.07 HPU provides continuouspressure of 21 MPa (3000 psi) and a flow rating of26.5 Lpm (7 gpm) when operating @ 60 Hz. TheSilentFlo HPU is a fully integrated machine includ-ing both the hydraulic system components and thefuses, electrical disconnect, motor starters, andcontrol logic. Simply connect electric power andwater to the unit and it’s ready to run.

SilentFlow HPUs feature advanced technologyand integrated controls that make them easy to use. They utilize variable displacement pump units formaximum electrical efficiency, automatic interlocksthat protect against low oil level and high temper-ature conditions, and 3-micron return line filtra-tion designed specifically for servohydraulictesting system use.
