The definition of a standard MTF is the phase where a piece of equipment and its manufacturing process are described.

The creation of a part is the phase where a piece of equipment is identified.

The creation of the MTF is the phase where the MTF is instantiated for a particular piece of equipment.

The “Properties to be measured” issue

Data access

The MTF-Travellers application was created to follow the manufacturing process of an equipment.

It was not designed as a central repository for all data concerning it, but as a “central point” to access ALL DATA.

•For a restricted number of properties

The MTF-Travellers may handle all data without problems

•For a large number of properties ( tipically > 50)

The MTF-Travellers should point to an adhoc application, under the Project Engineer’s responsibility where that data is stored

A subset of those properties could be mirrored on the MTF-Traveller application for quick or easy access

Maybe only property values which are relevant to other people/groups should be stored on the MTF; the rest would reside on local databases AND EDMS centrally stored files
