    theblade(s)andall movingpartshavestopped.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand groundagainsttheengineto preventunintendedstarting.3. Periodicallychecktomakesurethe bladescometo

    completestopwithinapproximately(5) fivesecondsafteroperatingthe bladedisengagementcontrol.Ifthebladesdo notstopwithinthethis timeframe,yourunitshouldbe servicedprofessionallyby anauthorizedMTDServiceDealer.4. Checkbrakeoperationfrequentlyas it is subjectedtowearduring normaloperation.Adjustand serviceasrequired.5.     Locatethe shippingbrace,if present,andaccompany-ing warningtagfoundon therightsideof themower,betweenthedischargechuteand thecuttingdeck.See Fig.3-2.Whileholdingthe dischargechutewithyourleft hand,removetheshippingbracewithyour righthandbygraspingit betweenyour thumbandindexfingerandrotatingit clockwise.

    WARNING:Theshipping brace, usedfor packaging purposes only, mustberemoved and discarded before operatingyour riding mower.WARNING:Themowing deck is capableof throwing objects. Failure to operatetheriding mower without the discharge coverin the proper operating position couldresult in serious personal injury and/orproperty damage.

    Attaching The Steering Wheelifthesteeringwheelforyour tractordid notcomeattached,the hardwareforattachingit hasbeenpackedwithinthe steeringwheel,beneaththe steeringwheelcap.Carefullypry offthe steeringwheelcapand removethehardware.1. With the wheels of the tractor pointingstraight

    forward, placethesteeringwheeloverthesteeringshaft.2. Placethewasher(withthecuppedsidedown)over

    thesteeringshaftandsecurewiththehexbolt.SeeFig.3-3.

    3. Placethesteeringwheelcapoverthecenterofthesteeringwheelandpushdownwarduntilit "clicks"intoplace.

    Attaching the Hood Scoop(if so equipped)Ifthehoodscoopwasnot securedto the hoodofyourtractorat thefactory,youwillfind it ina plasticbag,hangingfromthethrottlelever.To install:1. Carefullypivotthetractor hoodforward.2. Removethefourscrewsfromtheundersideof the

    hoodscoop.. Lineup thefourholesin thehoodscoopwiththefour

    holes visiblethroughthe tractor'shoodIouvres.SeeFigure3-4.

    4. Whileholdingthe scoopin place,usea 3/8" socketwrench(or boxwrench)tocarefullytightenthescoopontothe hood.

    Do NOTovertighten.
