Attitude of Gratitude 7
Inside this issue:
Tis the season of thanksgiv-ing! With so much to be grateful and thankful for please remember
to be thankful not just for the things around you but for the persons that surround you.
Whenever you pray for someone, begin by thanking God for them. Thank God for the role they’ve played in your life, for all that they’ve done for you, for the good things they’ve done for others. Even if you’re having conflict with this person, thank God that he or she is giving you the oppor-tunity to grow spiritually, learn forgiveness and be more pa-tient. If you try, you can find something to be thankful for in just about anyone—yes, even the grumpy ones.

Acorn Squash Stuffed with Chard & White Beans
Ingredients
2 medium acorn squash, halved (see Tip) and seeded
1 teaspoon plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper, divided
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon tomato paste
8 cups chopped chard leaves (about 1 large bunch chard)
1 15-ounce can white beans, rinsed
1/4 cup chopped kalamata olives
1/3 cup coarse dry whole-wheat breadcrumbs (see Note)
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation
1. Cut a small slice off the bottom of each squash half so it rests flat. Brush the insides with 1 teaspoon oil; sprin-
kle with 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Place in a 9-by-13-inch (or similar-size) microwave-safe dish. Cover
with plastic wrap and microwave on High until the squash is fork-tender, about 12 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion; cook, stirring, until starting to
brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Add garlic; cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Stir in water, tomato paste and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Stir in chard, cover and cook until tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in white beans and
olives; cook until heated through, 1 to 2 minutes more. Remove from the heat.
3. Position rack in center of oven; preheat broiler.
4. Combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan and the remaining 1 tablespoon oil in a bowl. Fill each squash half with about
1 cup of the chard mixture. Place in a baking pan or on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with the breadcrumb mixture. Broil
in the center of the oven until the breadcrumbs are browned, 1 to 2 minutes.

Love To PRAY Christ Supplies Us With Living Water
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and
said in a loud voice, “If a man is thirsty, let him come to me, and
drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said,
streams of living water will flow from within him.” John 7:37,
38, N.I.V.
The priest ... performed the ceremony which commemo-
rated the smiting of the rock in the wilderness. That rock was a
symbol of Him who by His death would cause living streams of
salvation to flow to all who are athirst. Christ’s words were the water of life. There in the
presence of the assembled multitude He set Himself apart to be smitten, that the water of
life might flow to the world. In smiting Christ, Satan thought to destroy the Prince of life;
but from the smitten rock there flowed living water. As Jesus thus spoke to the people, their
hearts thrilled with a strange awe, and many were ready to exclaim, with the woman of
Samaria, “Give me this water, that I thirst not” (John 4:15).
Jesus knew the wants of the soul. Pomp, riches, and honor cannot satisfy the heart.
“If any man thirst, let him come unto me.” The rich, the poor, the high, the low, are alike
welcome. He promises to relieve the burdened mind, to comfort the sorrowing, and to give
hope to the despondent. Many of those who heard Jesus were mourners over disappointed
hopes, many were nourishing a secret grief, many were seeking to satisfy their restless
longing with the things of the world and the praise of men; but when all was gained, they
found that they had toiled only to reach a broken cistern, from which they could not quench
their thirst. Amid the glitter of the joyous scene they stood, dissatisfied and sad. That sud-
den cry, “If any man thirst,” startled them from their sorrowful meditation, and as they lis-
tened to the words that followed, their minds kindled with a new hope. The Holy Spirit pre-
sented the symbol before them until they saw in it the offer of the priceless gift of salvation.
The cry of Christ to the thirsty soul is still going forth, and it appeals to us with even
greater power than to those who heard it in the temple on the last day of the feast. The foun-
tain is open for all. The weary and exhausted ones are offered the refreshing draught of eter-
nal life. Jesus is still crying, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” “Let him
that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation
22:17). “Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the
water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting
life” (John 4:14).—The Desire of Ages, 454.

What I Know
I was thinking about this Scripture passage ("Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about
you" ( 1 Peter 5:7) when I jotted these thoughts.
I don’t know about tomorrow. Sometimes I wish I did.
I don’t know whether or not the sun will shine, or it will rain again.
I don’t know if times will get easier or if we’ll lose what we have again.
I don’t know if anything will change tomorrow, or if everything will. Sometimes
I wish I did. . .
But I don’t know.
What I do know is that I serve a God who is more than faithful.
I know that God is able.
I know that God is good.
I know that God does not forget.
I know that God’s way is best.
I know that God stands behind the promises written in the Bible.
I know that God is Jehovah Jireh, the God who has a thousand ways to provide for us that we can’t
even imagine.
I know that whatever happens today, whatever happens tomorrow, God will take care of us.
Most of all I know that God already knows.
God knows our needs before we ask.
God knows the desire of our hearts.
God knows what we can take.
God knows the little things that mean so much to us.
God knows what is best, more than anything.
God knows about tomorrow and holds it, and each day of our future in capable and loving hands.
Troubles come like rainstorms. They drench the heart, and leave a chill that lingers after the rain is gone.
But the same rain that drenches and that sometimes chills, waters the ground so that life may go on. It
gives vital moisture so that when the sun shines, new life will spring up. Flowers will bloom and birds will
sing again. And every little droplet becomes a diamond of hope in the sun.
“Worry is blind, and cannot discern the future.” But God can, and does. And out of our circumstances, out
of our failures, out of our troubles, God will bring beauty, hope and new life.
And so I choose to trust God: with yesterday’s brokenness, today’s fears, and tomorrow’s unknowns. I
trust God with the sorrows and with the joys of today and with life’s unpredictable twists and turns and the
uncertainty that it sometimes brings. I choose to trust God with my heart, my life, my family. I trust God
with my home, my abilities, with my everything.
And God gives: Wisdom for this moment, strength for today, fresh, new hope for tomorrow.

It is the season to count our blessings and be thankful. Don’t take your blessings for granted; focus
on what you have, what you’ve accomplished and the great people in your life.
9 Ways to Count Your Blessings
1. Keep a gratitude journal — a gratitude journal can give you perspective about great things in
your life. Take some time every day to write down five things you are grateful for.
2. Remember and be grateful for challenges and “negative” experiences because they’ve taught
you valuable lessons in patience, understanding , humility and strength.
3. Focus on the gifts. Be thankful for the gifts that we receive from others, such as a smile or a
kind word, as well as gifts we offer to others.
4. Pray for gratitude or for the ability to be grateful.
5. Be grateful for your health. The human body is an amazing machine. Be thankful for all that
yours can do.
6. Keep visual reminders to be grateful, such as a picture frame with your favorite gratitude
quote, and surround yourself with grateful people.
7. Commit to practicing gratitude. Make a concerted effort to practice gratitude every single
day. Let others know you appreciate them.
8. Maintain a positive, grateful attitude. Replace a negative internal monologue with positive
thoughts.
9. If you must, fake it. If you are having trouble being grateful, fake it until you are.
Words of Thanks It can be difficult to express gratitude in words. Here are some phrases to get you
started.
“I appreciate you/your work.”
“You made my day.”
“You make my job/life/day so much easier.”
“You’re a great role model/example for others.”
“I’m grateful for all that you do.”
Expressing gratitude encourages others and also contributes to your long-term personal
happiness.
