No Competition – Since there is no anesthesiology residency program at clinical sites
In-State Tuition- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offers some of the lowest tuition rates in the region. In addition,
- UTC participates with 15 other states in the Academic Common Market
- Students wishing to pursue study in graduate programs not available within their home state may be able to attend out-of-state programs at in-state tuition rates.
High Pass Rates - Students who complete the 27-month program at NMMC traditionally score above the national average on their certification examination after graduation.

How Do I Get Started? High School Students
- Desired traits – Strong study skills, determination, motivated to learn, and a passion for nursing and patients.
- Sciences – Take challenging science courses- Complete a 4-year BSN program- Research and shadow CRNAs
Registered Nurses (RN)- RN-BSN Gateway program at UTC - enables working registered nurses to obtain a
baccalaureate degree in nursing through hybrid classes (online and campus instruction)
- At least 2 years of critical care experience- Research and shadow CRNAs

Step 1: Admissions
Admission Requirements Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Current unrestricted RN licensure in Tennessee oreligibility for Tennessee RN licensure
NMMC must also have MS RN license
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications prior to enrollment.
Admission Requirements At least two years of critical care nursing experience

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
Resume, professional essay--prior professional experience, future career goals, and reasons for pursuing graduate study.
3 professional recommendations
A personal interview will be required.
Admission Procedures
Apply to UTC School of Nursing Nursing CAS online application system
– Minimum GPA 3.0– Personal essay outlining professional goals– Resume– RN license– 3 Professional References (submit to the SON via
regular mail)

We do not accept scores greater than (5) years old.
Time frame - In addition to study prep, give yourself at least 3 months time before the admissions due date to take the exam. This gives you the opportunity to retake the GRE or MAT again if you score low and to insure that your scores are in to the UTC Graduate School in a timely manner.
Scores – What is considered an “acceptable” score?
We suggest that a visit to the GRE web site will be very helpful to you. There is a wealth of information there on how to interpret your scores, help in preparing for the test, including GRE Powerprep software. All of these are free of charge. Likewise, the MAT site has similar information.
Post-Master’s Certification Program
Nurses with a master's degree in nursing are eligible to continue graduate study and obtain a post-master's certificate in Nurse Anesthesia. Please note the following:
- You must meet the same Admission requirements as the MSN in Nurse Anesthesia. However, MAT or GRE scores are waived.
- Length of program is 27 months

Expenses Other than Tuition—Cost of Attendance
In addition to tuition and fees, there are other important expenses required of the program. ***Some examples include:
- Required textbooks $2,500.00
- Personal Computer (Required) (Estimated Cost) $ 2,500.00
- Internet Access (Vary)
- Associate memberships—American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and Tennessee Association of Student Nurse Anesthetists
- $225 (one time cost)
- Clinical Supplies (lab coat, Monaural stethoscope, nerve stimulator) $500.00
- TANA Annual Conference (transportation, room, meals) Required to attend 2
- meetings (in junior and senior years—approximate cost per trip is $250.00) = $500.00
** Please note that this is not an all-inclusive list and actual fees are subject to change each semester**

Students who are accepted into the program are eligible for the following sources of financial aid:

Regional Tuition Rate for Alabama & Georgia Students
Residents of Catoosa, Dade, Fannin, Murray, Walker, and Whitfield counties in Georgia and Jackson county in Alabama now qualify for a regional tuition credit for graduate classes.
Eligible students pay a tuition rate equal to in-house fees plus 25 percent of out of state tuition. Master's and doctoral degrees, certificates and specialist programs are included in the regional tuition credit.
