Knowing, loving, and serving God is like going on a diet and exercise plan. But it is not for two months to lose thirty pounds and to gain a flat stomach. Rather, it is a plan for life to lose all our vices and to gain the insight to fully appreciate and live the Gospel. How do we “stick” to this plan? First we must strengthen our prayer life. We need to have a conversa-tion with God. Prayer is communication with God. What most people don’t understand about prayer is that it is, essentially, a conversation between us and God. We must be respectful, but we must also be forth-right and honest. We should be direct and humble from the depths of our soul and, above all, we must listen! Not to listen is to dishonor God. It is to fail in our openness to how God is responding to what we have to say or request. In the Gospel of St. Luke, Jesus teaches us how we should pray by giving us what has come to be called “The Lord’s Prayer”. We address God as “Father”, be-cause He created us and loves us. We acknowledge that everything about God is holy and must be hon-ored, respected, and reverenced. We acknowledge that His kingdom and His will must always be first in our minds and hearts. We ask for our very human needs. We admit that we have sinned and need forgiveness but that we cannot be forgiven ourselves, if we refuse to forgive those who have done harm to us. Finally, we ask for strength of faith up to and including the end of our life here and to be delivered from the power of Sa-tan and evil. Jesus goes on to tell us that persistence in prayer is what pays off. He reminds us that God is truly our di-vine, loving Father and because He loves us, God will always answer our prayer in some way. The more we listen to God, the more will we be able to see ourselves as who we are and what God is asking of us in every situation. The more we converse with Jesus, the better will we be able to walk with him as authentic disciples, as well as his brothers and sisters.

Each year St. Dominic joins with the Diocese of Brooklyn to conduct the Annual Catholic Appeal, which supports Catholic programs throughout Brooklyn and Queens and affects the lives of countless indi-viduals and families living in our neighborhoods. The goal of the Annual Catholic Appeal is to raise a minimum of $8 million to provide programs and ministries throughout the Diocese and support the local ef-forts of parishes like ours. W Annual Catholic Appeal? The Lord calls us all to care for one another and the Church. It is up to us to foster faith and do good works in the ways we know how. Those who are hungry, without shelter, without access to Catholic education, men discerning the priesthood and those who are ill and dying are just a few of the groups who depend upon our generosity to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Your gift to the Appeal is a response in love to serve our neighbors by funding the ministries of the Diocese of Brooklyn that cannot be supported by any one parish alone but benefit all parishes in our Diocese. You can answer the call of Jesus who asks us to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned, honor our mother and father, celebrate the Eucharist and educate and make disciples of all nations through your donation to the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. Why is my participation important? St. Dominic has always counted on the broad-based support of its parishioners to accomplish its fundraising objectives, particularly for the weekly offertory. This appeal also needs that broad-based support. All households are asked to consider a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal (over and above their continued annual support of the parish in the weekly collection) over the next ten (10) months. GOOD WORKS

We are excited for the new offertory candles we are getting installed at St. Dominic’s Church in

addition to new candles for Padre Pio and Sacred Heart. These candles are electric so

please do not attempt to light the candles with a match. The button just needs to be pressed for a

couple of seconds and the candle will light. We will be memorializing each candle stand for a donation of $500.00 each. If you are interest-ed, please contact the Rectory during the hours

of 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Weekdays and 9:00 AM-1:00 PM on Saturday.

Chiedete e vi sarà dato. to. Essa cerca di definire l’atteggiamento con cui l’orante si rivolge al suo Dio. Nel quad-retto del vicino importuno in primo piano non è soltanto la perseveranza nella preghiera, ma la certezza fiduciosa dell’esaudimento. Dio è un amico e con lui ci si può comportare con il coraggio, l’audacia e la libertà con cui ci si rivolge a un amico vero abbandonanado timori, esitazione e convenzioni.

essere premuto per un paio di secondi e la candela si accenderà.

Campaña Católica Annual 2019 DIÓCESIS DE BROOKLYN Cada año St. Dominic R. C. Church y la Diócesis de Brooklyn se dedican a La Campaña Católica Anual, la cual sostiene programas católicos a través de Brooklyn y Queens, teniendo efecto en las vidas de innumerables personas y familias viviendo en nuestros vecindarios. La Campaña Católica Anual busca recaudar un mínimo de 8 millones para proveer los programas y ministerios a lo largo de la Diócesis y apoyar los esfuerzos locales de las parroquias como la nuestra. ¿C La Campaña Católica Anual? El Señor nos llama a cuidarnos unos a otros y a la Iglesia. Depende de nosotros fomentar la fe y hacer buenas obras en las formas en que sabemos cómo hacerlas. Estamos entusiasmados con las nuevas velas de ofrenda que estamos instalando en la Iglesia de St. Dominic, ademas son eléctricas, así que por favor no intente encenderlas con un fosforo. Solo se debe presionar el botón durante un par de

segundos y la vela se encenderá.

Conmemoraremos cada base de las nuevas velas por una donación de $ 500.00 cada una. Si estás interesado, pase por la

Rectoría durante el horario de 9:00am a 8:00pm días de la semana y de 9: a 1 el sábado.
