On a long cruise you are likely to encounter a variety of weather, temperatures and occasions, and if you take any excursions, cultural requirements specific to the location. On board ship, casual is the general rule except for formal nights (see above). Youll find sunhats and sunglasses useful to protect you from the glare of sun and sea, and youll want to keep a sweater or shawl handy for chill evening breezes. We recommend comfortable shoes for the land excursions. Additionally, when visiting museums, religious and cultural locations, it is best to avoid very short shorts or skirts, and keep arms and shoulders covered.

Istanbul: city on two continentsThis unique excursion takes you to the Asian and European sides of this metropolis on the shores of the Bosphorus. We cross the Bosphorus Bridge to reach the Asian side, with a visit to Beylerbeyi Palace, summer residence of the sultans and stunning example of late Ottoman architecture. We then board a boat to reach the European shore of Istanbul, where we have lunch. The afternoon is dedicated to the amazing Cisterna Basilica, the largest of several underground cisterns beneath the city of Istanbul, with its 336 marble columns. The tour also includes some time for a typical carpet demonstration and/or visiting a luxury jewellery store before free time for shopping in the fabulous Gran Bazaar.
