FeaturesWork of a priest:1. To intercede on behalf of the people (prayer)2. To make offerings to God for various purposes, to atone for sin (OT), to express gratitude, to acknowledge God’s grace and mercy, to have fellowship with God.3. To diagnose sickness4. To tend to the holy things (administration of daily work, lighting candles, shewbread, cleansings)5. To teach the word of God6. Settle spiritual matters (lawyers and judges)7. Pronounce God’s blessings8. Sound the trumpets to call the assembly, or prepare for battle.
NT priest offer up Spiritual sacrifices (not animal, food offerings) (taken from BBC)1. The presentation of the body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. This is an act of spiritual worship (Rom. 12:1). 2. The sacrifice of praise. “That is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name” (Heb. 13:15). 3. The sacrifice of good works. “Do not forget to do good. ... ” This sacrifice is pleasing to God (Heb. 13:16). 4. The sacrifice of possessions, or pocketbook. “Do not forget ... to share.” This sacrifice also is pleasing to the Lord (Heb. 13:16). 5. The sacrifice of service. Paul speaks of his ministry to the Gentiles as a priestly offering (Rom. 15:16).

1. Prayer - caring for the spiritual welfare of others by intercession2. Teaching - nurturing spiritual life through the word of God3. Service - building up the church through love4. Evangelism - reaching out so others can know the Saviour5. Worship - ministering to God by remembrance and sacrifices.
Within the context of the local church: caring for the house of God!
