• In 1998, she entered the Miss India contest without the knowledge of anyone in her family and was surprised to be short-listed and came to Mumbai to participate in the finals.

• she anchored a show called Filmi Batein for In Mumbai and Etc.

• she did some episodes of the show called Bakeman’s Ooh La La.

It was on this show that Shobha Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms saw and introduced Smriti to her daughter Ekta Kapoor, who auditioned her for Hum Paanch serial for the role of Sweety but was not able to make there. It was after 3 months that Smriti was called again by Balaji to audition for the role of Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

After playing Tulsi for years, Smriti took forward another step in her career in TV industry by starting her own production house called Ugraya Entertainment Pvt Ltd, she initially produced a play in Hindi called Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein and later on a Gujarati play title Maniben.com. Both her ventures were an instant hit at television viewers. After this success venture, Smriti along with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms produced a show for Star Plus called Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan .Later she produced show for Sony called Virruddh.

•Along with career in television and theatre, Smriti plunged into politics with Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) in 2003. In 2004 she unsuccessfully contested for Lok Sabha from Chandni Chowk constituency. Her dedication made her Vice-President of BJP's youth wing in Maharashtra along with National Executive of the state.

•Smriti apart from being an actor/producer/politician is also a social worker and has formed her own NGO called People For Change.

•Now she is BJP national secretary.

Smriti Irani so far has been titled with various titles:

Bahu Of Gujarat, India's No.1 Bahu, Mother India 2004, Bahu No.1.Smriti started her career with nominal fees like 1800 rupees but today she is the highest paid actress on television.

Smriti has been appointed Brand Ambassador of ORS in India by UNICEF.

Smriti is the only Indian actor who has featured in Sanjeev Bhaskar's series India With Sanjeev Bhaskar which was telecast on BBC World.
