Students with a growth mindset – Believe that they can learn Never make excuses TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their own learning Manage their time appropriately Understand that failure is a part of growth Will venture outside of their comfort zone Consistently WORK HARD, even when they don’t really feel like it See mistakes as an opportunity to improve Accept and give constructive criticism Make those around them better Every mistake you make is progress. #failforward A Note to Students: My personal goal is to make this class one of the high points of your year. As a scientist, I love to experiment and try new activities and teaching methods. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t, but either way we’re learning! I will also push you out of your comfort zone, which means we will make some mistakes and grow together. We will work hard every single day, but we will also laugh and have fun! (We don’t take ourselves too seriously in this class.) I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you and I know it’s going to be a great year!

A Note to Students:

My personal goal is to make this class one of the high points of your year. As a scientist, I love to

experiment and try new activities and teaching methods. Sometimes they work and sometimes they

don’t, but either way we’re learning! I will also push you out of your comfort zone, which means we

will make some mistakes and grow together. We will work hard every single day, but we will also

laugh and have fun! (We don’t take ourselves too seriously in this class.) I’m looking forward to

getting to know each of you and I know it’s going to be a great year!

How will we communicate? You will have a Schoology account that will give you access to EVERYTHING – all tutorial videos, notes, assignments, mastery practices, unit checklists and reflections, as well as valuable updates and reminders from me. You will also be able to direct message me for help with assignments.

** You should enter an email address to get notifications from Schoology. It is your responsibility to check it daily!

What supplies will I need? ü 3 x 5 index cards

ü TI 30X IIS Calculator ($13 at Walmart)

How will I be graded?

What if I need extra help?

Tutoring will be offered at these times:

Tuesday – Friday: 8:15 - 8:50 AM

Tuesday & Thursday: 4:00 – 4:30 PM

ü 1 ½ -inch binder

ü Pen or pencil

ü Notebook paper

** You must bring your materials to class every day!

I use standards-based grading, which basically means that every grade is directly tied to a specific learning goal or target in order to encourage concept/skill mastery.

** I will follow all district guidelines for grading.

40% = Unit Assessments & Notebook

60% = Mastery Practices & Classwork

** Follow the Unit Checklist!

General Behavior Expectations: You must be in the room to be counted “present”. If the door is closed,

go to the main office, even if you have a note or excuse from another teacher. Only official tardy passes will be accepted.

Follow the cell phone policy and use the designated charging station.

Take care of the classroom furniture and supplies. Clean up your own messes and push in your chairs when you leave.

You are not allowed to have food or drinks delivered to the classroom, or leave the classroom to get food or drinks.

Do not put up early and stand by the door! I will manage the time and let you know when you can pack up to go.

Did you complete your target goals/reflections?

Did you follow the “next steps”? Do you need tutoring?

Did you score at least an 80 on your mastery practice?

Will I be allowed to retest?

You will be far less stressed and do much better in the class overall if you follow the Unit Checklists and complete your work ON TIME. But we all know that sometimes life happens.

So…I do not count off any late points. You are allowed to turn in any assignments for FULL CREDIT until the Thursday before reports cards are due – by 4:30 PM, which is when I leave.

Before you schedule a time to retest…

What is your late work policy?

YES!!! Just message me in Schoology requesting a time to retest sometime during normal tutoring hours. Please send it by 4:00 PM the day prior and be sure to include which target(s) you would like to try again. You will receive a reply from me.

** You will not be allowed to retest until you meet the following requirements…
