Let's look at these two characters viewpoints from thursday's reading.

• In chapter 7 Mrs. Popper thinks Captain Cook is funny by collecting all the items for the refrigerator. I know this because it says Mrs. Popper laughed. Mrs. Popper thinks she might like having Captain Cook around. I know this because in the text it said, "Those Penguins may have heathen ways at the South Pole, but I declare I think this one's going to be quite a help around the house."

In chapter 8 we know Mrs. Callahan is shocked and surprised and feeling uneasy around Captain Cook because it says “SHE STARED IN ASTONISHMENT” and then yells, “GET AWAY FROM ME” and “TAKE YOUR SOUTH POLE GOOSE AWAY FROM ME AT ONCE”. We can tell that Mrs. Callahan is not a big fan of Captain Cook!

Captain Cook's perspective in chapter 10 is

He is feeling very sad and ill.

EVIDENCE:All day he would sit with his little white-circled eyes staring out sadly from the refrigerator when the day before he was happily sliding down a staircase during his walk.

EVIDENCE: He would turn away when Mr. Popper offered him canned shrimps and he loved eating canned shrimp.

EVIDENCE: His coat lost its lovely, glossy look, when he always had a very shiny looking coat before.
