about usThe Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) was founded in 1939 and is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship in all areas of political science. The purposes of the MPSA are to promote the professional study and teaching of political science, to facilitate communications between those engaged in such study, and to develop standards for and encourage research in theoretical and practical political problems. As such, MPSA is a nonpartisan association. It does not support political parties or candidates.
The MPSA publishes the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS), a premier journal for research in all major areas of political science. In April of each year, the MPSA holds one of the largest political science conferences, with more than 5,000 presenters from throughout the United States and around the world.
about the conferenceThe 74th annual MPSA conference will be held April 7-10, 2016 at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, IL. Conference presentations are organized by topic in more than 80 sections based on different subfields or areas of study. Many of these are interdisciplinary and draw scholars from different fields, providing a variety of perspectives.
The conference boasts seven session formats which include (1) panels, (2) posters, (3) roundtables, (4) Junior Scholar Symposium, (5) empire series, (6) working groups, and (7) open discussions.
Panels. Four to five papers are represented on a panel, which also includes a chair and one or two discussants. The chair introduces the panel, each author, and the discussant(s). He/she manages the time for each presentation, and insures that the discussion is polite and productive. Each author presents an abbreviated version of his or her paper.
Posters. One paper is presented as a poster session, which may include a discussant. Poster sessions are held in the exhibit hall. Each presenter is assigned to an 8’ wide by 4’ high numbered display panel. Attendees have the opportunity to walk through and view the poster displays throughout the day.
Roundtables. Roundtables provide in-depth examinations of specific topics, projects, or books (e.g., author meets critics or book reviews). Four to eight panelists participate in a roundtable, which may include a chair who introduces the panelists and provides a substantive introduction to the topic. The focus is on the discussion and interaction among panelists. Participants do not prepare papers.
Junior Scholar Symposium. Attendance is by invitation only. The Junior Scholar Symposium (JSS) is a unique opportunity for graduate students and faculty who have recently earned their Ph.D. to meet and share their research. This same approach has been used with great success by the International Studies Association at their conference. Each group will have four or five scholars who are doing research on a similar subject and they will meet and present their research with one another and one or two senior scholars. Four JSS will take place at any given time.
Empire Series. Each Empire Series session begins with a 30-minute keynote presentation, followed by a 15 minute Q&A with the audience. A specially appointed committee will solicit and review proposals

for Empire Series keynotes. Our main priority is to offer presentations of very high quality on important research.
Working Groups. A working group is a conference within a conference. Participants commit to attend a small group of related or organized sessions. A volunteer coordinator for each working group proposes a theme, selects and/or organizes sessions for the group to attend, promotes the working group, and facilitates communication among participants. A working group consists of up to 15 participants.
Open Discussions. These sessions are similar to “open spaces” sessions at conferences. Unlike a roundtable where the presenters are all experts on the topic and make a structured presentation, with an open discussion, one person selects a topic and the attendees sign up to participate in the discussion that the organizer facilitates.

how to connectSeveral opportunities exist to make your mark at this year’s conference.
Showcase new authors, textbooks, software, journals, and other products and services to a diverse group in the political science field. The exhibit hall boasts numerous exhibitors and average daily foot traffic in the exhibit hall has grown to over 3,000 visitors.
The exhibit hall is the center of conference activity and houses the poster sessions, charging stations and complimentary coffee. In addition, the Exhibitors’ Reception is a favorite gathering place for attendees following a full first day of meetings.
Exhibitors will also have the opportunity to purchase lead generation through the exhibitor portal on the app. Scan attendee badge QR codes to collect data.
The Program Book (Printed)This program book is used extensively by attendees not just during the conference, but also throughout the year. If you don’t wish to exhibit, you may also select one of our advertise-only options. Exhibitors are invited to include their ad in the conference program.
The Conference App (Mobile)In 2015 we successfully redesigned our conference app. The app software is designed to run on smart phones and other mobile devices. It boasts a full listing of all program sessions and speakers. The exhibitor module hosts the full lineup of exhibitor and a hall floor plan. Through the module, attendees can schedule meetings with exhibitors throughout the course of the event and exhibitors can generate leads by scanning QR codes on the back of attendee badges via the exhibitor admin portal via the app.
Let your customers know that you support the field of political science and their important work. We’re restructured our sponsorship choices to give you options that will better work for you. With offerings located in high traffic areas that will maximize your visibility, these sponsorships will get you the attention you’re looking for.
A la carte items are also available if you choose to customize your level of support further.
