Max Philipp has extensive experience gained in interna onal opera ons, strategic
management and marke ng and a technical exper se in the field of High Voltage
Regula on, Transformers and Substa ons. From hands‐on to managing teams in the
Asset Management of Substa ons and especially Power Transformers give him the
right background to pass on his wealth of experience. His customer base includes
Power U li es, High & Medium Voltage Substa ons, Transformer Manufacturers
and Industrial customers in the Asia Pacific region.
Max Philipp has worked for 25 years at
Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH (MR)
of Germany. In his career he led success‐
fully 2 of their subsidiaries. The first one
was in Australia and his last engagement
was as Managing Director in Reinhausen
Asia Pacific in Kuala Lumpur. Due to his
previous engagements he has estab‐
lished deep contacts all over Asia Pacific
Power Industry.
Course Overview
This course covers the fundamentals of transformer condi on moni‐
toring and asset management procedures. It emphasizes on the tech‐
nical background on which decisions are based. This course will give
the par cipants valuable knowledge which will support their direc ves
and decisions in their daily challenges, instead of an over reliance on
technologies such on‐line condi on monitoring systems to interpret
data.
Course Objec ves
Gain an overview on asset management procedures and tech‐niques for transformers.
Acquire an understanding of the 4 pillars of condi on monitoring: DGA, Record keeping, Visual inspec on and Rou ne off line tests (Bushing, OLTC).
Interpret test results and understand interrela onship of various
tests conducted.
Delivery Method
Instructor‐Led with hands‐on training on Transformer components
plus On Load Tap Changer inspec on.
Who Should A end
This course is designed for middle to senior asset engineers, asset managers
and engineers dealing with specifica on, opera on, maintenance and protec‐
on of power transformers.
“It is very useful and is related to day to day work”
“Good for engineers to value the assets and understand the need to maintain
and to monitor them in order to prolong their longevity”
“Instructor has very good knowledge and experience of transformers and
OLTC. Able to give good examples and share informa on”
“It is a good course for engineers and managers”

Hands‐On Knowledge
Hands on experience
The training centre is equipped with 2 OLTC models for hands on training.
During the third day, the par cipants will have hands on an actual OLTC. During the
day we will dismantle, re‐assemble and install the OLTC. A er which, opera onal tests
and alignment procedures will performed to ensure that it is properly installed.
By the end of the training the Par cipants will:
Understand the basics of transformer asset management.
Understand transformer life cycle and maintenance planning
Learn about DGA in transformer oil
Learn how to maintain transformer components
Understand transformer opera on, aging and failure
Understand on‐line monitoring techniques
Understand the various tests performed before during and a er OLTC maintenance.
Emphasis is put on the hands on par cipa on of the trainees.
