CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FOR CLUB EVENTSPlayers are advised that upon entering a qualifying round of an event they must check their roster book for any subsequent playing dates for future rounds.
Players are also advised that upon qualifying, matches may be played before the date set aside in the roster for the round. However, uncompleted games after that date can result in the disqualification of one or both players involved.
If players find, for some reason, that matches will not be finalised by the due date, they must advise any member of the match committee, Club Captain or the executive officer of the reason so the appropriate action can be taken.
It is the responsibility of the winning player to record the result on the sheet provided.
THE IDEALS OF CLUB MEMBERSHIPThe enjoyment of golf depends a great deal on the co-operation, consideration and courtesy extended by fellow competitors. What is true of the game also applies to club membership. The spirit and image of a golf club is projected by the way fellow members show respect, courtesy and consideration for one another. This courtesy and consideration should extend to the choice of dress generally, in the standard of conduct on the course and in the Clubhouse. The standards of a golf club may be judged by the etiquette of its members.
No member or visitor shall behave in a manner prejudicial to the welfare of the Club.
6 7
DRESS CODEMEMBERS & VISITORS PLEASE NOTE:With fashions constantly changing, the board of the Mowbray Golf Club has reviewed the existing dress code. A detailed list of the new dress standards is as follows:
All Club patrons MUST be attired in accordance with these rules.
This code applies to all Members, Members’ Guests and other Visitors whilst on the course, utilising practice facilities, and when within the confines of the Clubhouse.
Members and visitors are expected to dress in a manner that will uphold the dignity of the Club.
It is the responsibility of all members to ensure that their guests comply with requirements.
The requirement is that members, their guests and all visitors must be smartly, neatly and cleanly dressed at all times. The use of facilities and service will be refused to those not adhering to the spirit of this requirement.
The Chief Executive Officer, Bar Staff, Club Professional and elected members of the Board or Sub-Committees have authority to interpret requirements. The Board may direct or restrict dress requirements for certain times, places or special events.
Styles of clothing sold in the Mowbray Golf Club Pro Shop, with approval of Club Management are acceptable for wear on the course.
THE COURSE & PRACTICE FACILITIES:The dress of golfers must be neat, tidy and appropriate to the game, and to the standards expected by, and of, Members of Mowbray Golf Club. In order to assist Members in interpreting these expectations the following guidelines are applicable:

THE CLUBHOUSEBEFORE 6.00pm Neat casual dress is the minimum standard which will be accepted within the confines of the Clubhouse. In general terms attire which is not acceptable on the Course will not be acceptable in the Clubhouse. The only exception will be employment–specific uniforms or protective clothing which must be of a neat, clean and tidy appearance. Spiked shoes may be worn in designated areas only while caps, visors and hats are strictly not permitted.
AFTER 6.00pm Neat casual dress is the minimum standard which will be accepted within the confines of the Clubhouse. As a reflection of changing fashions, shirts without collars will be acceptable. T-shirts, singlets, tank tops etc. are strictly not permitted. The Committee of Management of The Mowbray Golf Club reserves the right to refuse any person access to the course, practice facilities or Clubhouse for not complying with the spirit of the dress code or acceptable behaviour standards.
ETIQUETTENo one shall move talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball 1. or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. The player who has the honour shall be allowed to play before his 2. opponent or fellow-competitor tees his ball.No player shall play until the players in front are out of range. If a 3. match fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it must allow the match following to pass through. In the interest of all, players should play without delay.4. Players searching for a ball should allow other players coming up 5. to pass them; they should signal to the players following them to pass; and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range. Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up all holes 6. made by him therein.
8 9
Through the green a player should ensure that any turf cut or 7. displaced by him is replaced at once and pressed down, and that any damage to the putting green made by the ball or the player is carefully repaired.Players should ensure that, when dropping clubs of the flagstick, 8. no damage is done to the putting green and that neither the nor their caddies damage the holes by standing close to the hole or in handling the flagstick. The Flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green. When the play of the hole has been completed, players should 9. immediately leave the putting green and mark cards at the next tee.A Group’s position in the field is immediately behind the group in 10. front, not in front of the group behind.
Dress well to help our Club image. Please carry and use a sand bucket at all times. Course Staff Have Priority at All Times
COMPETITION CARDSA card issued by the starter or other authorised person must be obtained before playing in any competition and the required entrance fee paid. All cards must be dated, signed by the marker, countersigned by the player, and placed in the prescribed receptacle immediately after the competition of the round. All competition cards must be returned for handicap purposes. Players are responsible for putting correct handicaps on their cards.
SAFETY NOTICEThe Occupation Health, Safety & Welfare Act requires the employer to maintain a safe working environment. The Mowbray Golf Club Inc. has adopted safe working practice, procedures to prevent injury to staff from golf balls are as follows:

GREEN MAINTENANCE - When the flag has been removed the green is out of play and golfers are NOT to hit to the green until the flag is replaced.
FAIRWAY & ROUGH MAINTENANCE - Golfers MUST wait for an approaching vehicle or mower to pass behind, or out of range before playing their shots. Alternatively golfers may be called on to play their shots by the operator.
OTHER SITUATIONS - In all other situations golfers MUST receive acknowledgement from ground staff who are in range before playing a shot. Failure to comply with the above procedures could result in prosecution under the Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare Act.

Any Member introducing a visitor shall be responsible for the conduct of such visitors, both in the Clubhouse and on the Course.

12 13
In no instance shall a servant of the Club be directly reprimanded 1. by a member.
Members are reminded that the furniture and fittings in the 2. Clubhouse are their property and are requested to preserve and protect same.
The standard of a Golf Club may be judged by the etiquette of 3. members. It is always better to give a point rather than take one.
Members should look at the notice board before starting play, for 4. they are deemed to be aware of all notices, local rules etc, there posted. They should also check their handicap. Shoes left along the verandas will be removed (use your car, bag or the locker room).
ORDER OF PLAY & SCORINGAMERICAN FOURSOMES (PINEHURST) – Both players play tee shots at each hole, they play second with their partner’s ball. One ball is then selected and play proceeds as in foursomes with the owner of the ball selected playing the third stroke.
Handicap: Half of combined handicaps rounded up to the next full stroke.CANADIAN FOURSOMES - Both players play tee shots at every hole, then select ball to be played. The owner of the ball selected does not play the next stroke, but plays the following stroke with each player playing alternate strokes until the ball is holed out.
Handicap: Half of combined handicaps rounded up to the next full stroke.
FOUR-BALL BEST-BALL STABLEFORD – Played in exactly the same manner as Four-Ball Stroke except that the better ball of the partnership will be credited with points.
FOURSOME – 2 players play as partners and use one ball. The partners strike off alternately during the play at each hole. In a 36 Hole Event the player who hits off the odd numbered (according to the
12 13
card) in the first round shall hit off the even numbered holes (according to the card) in the second round.
Handicap : Half of combined handicaps.
MIXED CLUB COMPETITIONS - Maximum handicaps of 27 for men and 36 for Associates will apply.
FOUR BALL BEST BALL STROKE - Two players play as partners each taking strokes at holes as in a stroke competition. In a four-ball handicap event care must be taken to mark the scores of each player in separate columns headed by the initials of the player. If the scores are mixed and it is impossible to check the card the players will be disqualified.
4BBB STROKE - Both players tee off and play to the green as normal stroke play. When players have finished the hole they work out who had the best NETT score and record it on the card as the same time putting his or her GROSS Score on the card as well and continue this until the eighteen holes are finished.
Example: Player A hcp 18 has had a 5 as well then the first ball in the hole is shown as 5-4. If player A had a 6 then his partner has had 2 then his partner would be shown as above. If on the 4th hole player A has had a 4 and his partner has had 2 then the partners score would count as 2-2, because he did not get a shot on that hole.
TWO STROKE CANADIAN - 2 stroke Canadian is another variation to the basic foursomes format. Both partners hit 2 shots before alternating their shots, rather than just a tee shot. The handicapping is the same.
IRISH STABLEFORD - Normal Stableford Scoring Rules Apply
Play in a group of 4#1 : First Six Holes - Best Ball Counts#2 : Next Five Holes - Best Two Balls Count#3 : Next Four Holes - Best Three Balls Count#4 : Last Three Holes - All Balls Count
