Methods of that I can do:
What I chose to use:
Having already done a documentary I had decided to go with the same outlook as I enjoyed the first documentary I had made in year, I wanted a change of idea. I am using Final Cut Pro to edit all my work and then export to QuickTime ready to be uploaded on Youtube. I chose this because I quite enjoy making because I find the project fun and I can venture out and do a lot on the music side. I am comfortable with using this software and I really enjoy working with Final Cut Pro. There’s a lot to explore and to be used with this software and it gives a big scope to do a variety of techniques.

• Making it entertaining for people to enjoy this video.
• Will focus on his main video on her "Music video"
• Will ask questions about new songs/videos that will come up soon.
• I will TRY bring more of her artist friends in to talk about her music & film them work together in studio.
• I am aiming to film at different locations so that I don’t just stick to one place.
• I am going to film in a studio, outside in south London, as this is where the artist is.
• I am going to film in a studio, outside in south London, as this is where the artist is.

About Izzy
With no management or record deal in place, South London born Izzy Veron Has been working tirelessly with a select pool of producers create her debut works.
Never afraid to experiment with a multitude of genres, Izzy has a simple yet profound explanation of her working methods... "My music is basically me hearing something in my head, and a producer hearing something in their head, us recording it and for some reason, it works" says Izzy. "It always sounds different because it’s reflective of my mood and I enjoy trying out different genres and styles. Hopefully that means that there's something for everyone in my music".

Live Performance
Izzy big day (live performance 19th January)
I will be going to The Roof Gardens (http://www.roofgardens.virgin.com/)
Today I will record Izzy live performance; this is a different experience for me as I have never been to a live show to record. I will aim to get good clean shots of her singing. Trying to shoot different angles of her performing will be hard will there’s a lot of people at the place watching her sing.
Some photos I took while she performed…

Having gone to shoot her live performance I started liking her songs

How I found recording day of live performance
The day of the performance was very interesting, I found that you didn’t have time to do anything fancy as you would miss her singing & if I had tried to change angles while recording her singing the camera would shake. There was a lot of people there as well watching her sing, I personally didn’t expect the room to be so tiny but it wasn’t as big as I thought there would have been. There wasn’t much room to move around again because of the room being so small. Her band was very nice and didn’t mind being filmed (well to be honest they shouldn’t as that’s what is expected when going in to this field)
At this point the camera I was using SLR Canon 650D was very new to me as I am use to using the cameras at university. I found I had problems with the filming side, for example: the auto focus button was left on so after when I came home I saw the lens just focusing at times when she will move around which was a problem because I couldn’t reshoot that. But when edited I just used the parts where the camera lens didn’t move & just put that in her edited video.
When I got there it was from there where I did not get much time speak to Izzy about what ill be doing or even things I didn’t expect to happen. It was just rushed from when I got there, first she when up rehearse and test the sounding & microphones out also so the sound person could play around with sound too. Then after she when straight to change after she got changed I got time amongst the other people there filming her, to just do shots of her around the Roof Gardens. After that she had to rush of because her singing time was coming up so she wanted to get ready for that. Once she was on stage I tried to film shots of her in different angles but it was so hard to move around. I am also short so that didn’t help much as when I try to get a long shot there would be tall people in front of me. So I had to just stay at the front & work with what I could as she only had sang 5 songs so I didn’t have time to fuss around.
After she had done her performance I did not see her much as I wanted to do some filming of her interview but didn’t get time after that.
14 | P a g e
In all the experience of that was quite interesting and if I do get another change in the future to film a live performance I was do it differently and know how to tackle obstacles that may arise during the filming side or even be fore the performance. But I had a fun night and I would do that again, minus the auto focus problem & maybe not getting to have a quick talk before the performing but in total was a really good experience.

Trial Drawings
These are some of the drawing I had done, this was done to give me a rough idea of what I should include in the documentary. Originally I had planned to film as I had drawn but on the day of filming I found it very hard I have explained more about how I found filming on the live performance.

Interviewing Izzy
I had done two takes of her interview, one which was done at my friends house he has a green screen studio in his house and I had asked to use it for my first filming, I had got him to ask question as I don’t like the sound of my own voice. When setting up the studio I had made the lighting equal to the green screen so if I had chosen to put something in the background it looked realistic. The light was done well a bit dark but that could have been changed in Final Cut Pro with the Colour Contrast effect. The sounding was done well as my friend had the equipment for the filming. I had used my Handy cam that day as I didn’t check to see if my DSLR was charged ‘silly me’ it wasn’t. So I had a backup! I wanted to use only DSLR, as the quality would have been better. My friend had the Nikon D5200 and I had the Canon 650D but unfortunately it didn’t work. I think that day was very productive as I help set up the green screen and setting up the studio ready for Izzy to be filmed.
The second Interview
I was told my Tutor Marc to reshot and get me asking the questions in the interview, not having to do it before because of me not liking my voice I then went out again to record and over come this little hurdle of mine. I don’t mind doing it as much now but still sound horrible but if given the situation I would then do it. I originally wanted to do the second interview in Mps live recording room but the manager in mps didn’t allow me to, as I was not a music student. I then informed Marc and also said I had a back up but would prefer to film in Mps because I wanted her whole band to come down. So that didn’t happen so I had filmed in St Georges, there was a music studio room for all the students there to relax and do other things. This is when the problem began with sound. I had used a clip mic but the sound was still not great I don’t know why but it wasn’t. When editing at home on my IMac the sound wasn’t as bad as it was when I presented it. I could see what the tutors meant but obviously for me I could hear what they was saying as I went out filming her. But I understand and took on
17 | P a g e
bored what the tutors said.
Having less time and loads of work to I to contact Izzy fast to re-‐record, we had arranged to meet on Thursday the 9th so record the interview again this time I was going to borrow my friends boom mic as that’s what we had used in the first green screen interview. On the morning of Thursday Izzy had text me to say she is not feeling good and she has a skin infection and wont be able to meet me for filming. I was in not state to be annoyed or wait around to see if she will be feeling better the next day. So I then at that point decided to go with the first interview as the sound was good there and so did the tutors find it ok but wanted me to reshoot. As I couldn’t reshoot I had then started on editing and changing the whole structure of the documentary. Playing around with what I had was interesting, I had recorded the guitar playing just playing something for me on Tuesday and also went back to the studio room at St Georges and then recording the keyboard player playing something on the piano, this had help with extra footage.
I had tried to get the entire band together to record them in rehearsals but they were never free, getting everyone or just Izzy to do some filming was the hardest thing as I found she was free most of the time. And in the respect I had struggled to get more of her singing.
Mike had wanted less talking in the video and more of her singing, as he liked her voice so he wanted more singing and less boring interview. I had then decided to put more singing to try engage the attention of the audience, to be honest the first one I did find boring as well so i am glad I got this feedback so I could change it. In the first draft I had put a scene of her Music video, Mike had preferred me not to put it in (taking credit for someone else’s work, he said) but I would have in my journal explained that’s not my work so I wouldn’t have been. Marc then suggested if you are going o put it in put it in a small box on the side, which I did do for 10seconds (around that). I tried to listen to both tutors and put what they both wanted in there.

We had went to do filming along with another friend of hers to film her sing Melanie Fiona -‐ wrong side of a love song. We went by the riverside and shot good footage of her this was extra singing footage for me. Her friend and me worked separately on this, as we were not doing the same piece of work. We did help each other when needed I did find that helpful as I got more incite of working or trying to work on your appointed task while another person was doing the same, catching good angles before he took.
I had also had to email people at work (St Georges Hospital) to give me permission to film her at work, this was something different I had done as in all the years at university I have never had emailed or asked any permission to film in a particular place. Having emailed and got permission I was told by the communication team that I am not aloud to record during work hours as there is a lot of patients that would not be happy seeing a camera and if I could get actors to come in after work hours to pretend to be patients. I had understood why this was said and I had then agreed. I had got a few friends to just film a scene of her talking to patients and pretending to do work so I could add this in her documentary.

How things had change from start plan to now
I had originally wanted to film my friend Nathan as he has been doing music since he was in secondary school; he has a few music videos up since then and loves to be filmed. At first the music documentary was going to be on him and I would follow him around in things he would be doing. But in the Christmas holidays the plan had changed as he seemed unreliable and I couldn’t count on him. Funnily enough he is Izzy’s producer and I found her at work because she had worked in the same department as me. So while that happened with Nathan I thought I should ask Izzy and it turned out she was interesting and very happy to do this for me. So we had started recording our work.
Now looking back at it, I am glad I got Izzy to be in my documentary but if there was something I could change about her, it would be being more available to shoot and being less shy. I did not understand how a music artist could be very shy once being filmed or even just singing in front of new people but she was and I had to tackle this situation.

Questions that I will ask:
We will start off the documentary by you telling the viewers about yourself, I will then start asking you the questions one by one.
1. What do u enjoy about being a music artist?
2. When did you realise you wanted to be in this field & how long have you been a music artist for?
3. What is your future plans?
4. Have you been in competitions?
5. Can you see yourself changing to something else?
6. If you were to be in a live performance how do you handle mistakes during it if any?
7. What are you doing currently?
8. What are some personality characteristics you feel bring you down in performing?
9. In terms of being is the music industry; do you think being an artist in London is easier then being in America?
10. What would you say the difference between being in London and having such talent to America?
11. What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous & want to become a music artist?
Would you like to say anything to people who watch you on youtube?

Problems Occurred
Problems with filming
• I had problems with getting the musician to make dates, was such a problem with dates. Arranging to meet up and make the film shoot.
• Sound was another problem, Filming Izzy in her live performance was a problem as I thought being live & loud there was be no issue with the sounding. But when I came home & had a look at the filming the sounds was not as great as I would have expected it to be, but luckily in Final Cut Pro I was able to turn the volume up.
• Focus... Making my video look clear & focus was an issue as it has been many attempts of filming I would forget to turn the auto focus off so therefore everyone time there would be a movement in the video you could see the camera lens just keep moving. This had caused me to reshoot most of my Documentary.
22 | P a g e
Equipment Used Lighting Lighting plays a very important part in cinematography. The lighting will set the mood of the scene & adds graphical interest to the subject of the film. Grasping the perfect lighting in your own film or documentary will take a lot testing and practice, but if you know the basics of how to setup the scene will jump-‐start your cinematography teaching.
23 | P a g e
Tripods
Tripods have been made for the usage of both still and motion photography, Tripods helps prevent movement of the camera why taking shots of the scene. This is very necessary when taking slow-‐speed exposure shots and also fast & even when your taking extreme focal length shots, with any camera that you have while the shutter is been opened it will create a blurred image, but this is the most effective object to use as it helps a lot with camera shakes. Tripods will also help with framing particular shots or even various things in the scene.
24 | P a g e
Camera Used
I am using two Cameras the main camera will be the Canon EOS 650D
This is a Digital camera EOS 650D
It also comes with Zoom Lens EF-‐S18-‐55mm
Wide strap EW-‐100DBIV
This Camera is brilliant with its photography SLR Camera Is mainly used for taking picture but this camera also Has filming feature. The filming on this camera is good Quality is needs adjusting with the buttons on the camera playing with the lighting, focus and also more.
25 | P a g e
The buttons on this side are to for adjusting the camera, on the right side there is a flash button you can press that button anytime to take a flash picture.
The top round button is basically something really handy
if your in a hurry to take a picture/video just set it to what sort of function you want and the camera sets everything to suit the subject or scene.
26 | P a g e
P: Program AE
Tv: Shutter-‐Priority AE
Av: Aperture-‐priority AE
M: Manual exposure
A+: Scene intelligent Auto
Flash image: Flash off
CA: Creative Auto
On the Lens there are also buttons to help take a decent picture/video, the AF/MF button is the focus mode switch the AF button stands for Autofocus & MF the stands for manual focus if it is set to MF the Autofocus will not operate.
Under the AF/MF button there is a Image Stabiliser switch which turns on or off, this helps with blurry Picture/ videos if the switch it on taking a picture with this is the best use because it will help with making the picture more focused & stabilised but if you are thinking making a video footage it is
27 | P a g e
best to keep it off as every time the subject moves you can see the lens zoom in & out which doesn't help if you try to make a film. I had so many problems with that as I would at times forget to turn it off so therefore I would film & after the film was finished I would look back at the footage & see I have to reshoot. It didn't help when it was on while filming my Music artist in her live performance, as I could not reshoot that.
The second camera I will be using, Camileo x200
This is a full HD resolution camera
1920x 1080p frame with 12x optical zoom, 20x advanced zoom
Touch screen to help go through the shots.
28 | P a g e
This is a handy camera the reason I will be using 2 cameras, is because it is I want to use this camera for detail of the subject. zooming into a close up of interview or singing, hand movements along with reactions. And picking up more angles then what the main camera will do. I will place the SLR camera on a Tripod while I walk around getting different camera angles with the Camileo x200 by using a Fig Rig to help make the filming steady and smooth
29 | P a g e
The button on the back with a red dot is the record button, to help turn on the camera you simply just open the LCD Touch Panel or press the off button to switch off. Zoom in & out is on top of the camera and the button just before the zoom is the snapshot button that’s will take a picture of anything while in filming process or not recording.

Research Music Videos
I have been looking at music promotions on www.youtube.com to see how music gets promoted and also music documentary. This has helped me more for my music documentary I will be doing and it also has given me more of an idea to what I want to do. By looking at these music videos and documentary I have now an idea of what I want to include in my video and how I want to plan it out. The different types of documentary have now given me an idea of the documentary I want to create. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ba5Z8Dy-‐j4&feature=player_embedded This Video had given me a good insight to the style and questions I could as in my documentary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rOOLm3n6GY&feature=player_embedded This video was very interesting to watch as I got the idea of angles and camera positions from here, this video seemed to be very interesting and played a lot with the positioning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMAEfgDP_bk&feature=player_embedded With this video documentary I found lighting was the main key, lighting is the main part of any type of filming. Whether it is documentaries, feature film and many more... I will focus my documentary a lot on lighting and making sure that the video looks well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzUQxp0vcNw&feature=player_embedded With this documentary I liked the element of in equipment used to make this look like a music documentary... also the use of the music software and the cameraperson recording that gives a good look also.

In total how I found the experience
I found this whole experience in making a music documentary interesting, as I had never done one before I would do this again and this time I would do so much differently. Where to begin about doing it differently, first I would chose someone confident and not shy to shy, someone more available for shooting. Someone that looks and enjoy music with a passion when filming them not get bored by the way they present.
Technical problems, I would make sure the sound is perfect even if I use a clip mic again check the sound is working and not assume it is, auto function switch that off and do is manually I found so much problems with my shooting because of the auto function button. The thing is I was new to this camera I had never had a DSLR’s before and I just bought one and getting to grips with the camera was a challenge.
Just in general make it look exciting and worth watching, make the person do things and record it even if they’re being silly but obviously relating to what the topic is about.
When I look back at these problems I had dealt with I think shouldn’t really be dealing with them after learning this for 3 years but I then think, everyday is a learning day you make a mistake and you learn from it. I made mistakes in the film but I learnt for next time not to do it again and I believe I wont make the mistake (well I hope, you can never tell with filming).
That’s the thing with filming there is never going to be a day when you think nothing went wrong today, because something always goes wrong even if its not your fault & that’s what I enjoy about filming its not repetitive, there is always something new happening.
