NationalMultiple Sclerosis Society,Minnesota Chapter
2006 Annual Report
Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of informationbetween the brain and the body and stops people frommoving. We believe moving is not just something you canor can’t do, but that moving forward is who we are. Just bybeing here, you are connected to the potential, the hope, the momentum of it all.
With the help of people like you, the National MS Societyaddresses the challenges of each person whose life isaffected by MS and helps them stay connected to thegreat big moving world.
We fund more MS research, provide more services to peoplewith MS, offer more professional education and furthermore advocacy efforts than any other MS organization inthe world. The society is dedicated to achieving a world freeof MS.We are people who want to do something about MSnow. The Minnesota Chapter represents an estimated 9,000people with MS in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Moving research forward.
ResearchThe National MS Society is moving researchforward to find three cures for MS:
A way to stop the disease cold
A way to repair existing damageto the nervous system
A way to prevent the damage fromever happening in the future
The society funded more than 380 newand ongoing MS research projects in 2006,including several right here in Minnesota.Since its inception in 1948, the society hasfunded more than $500 million in MS research.
Pediatric MS Center of ExcellenceThe Mayo Clinic Rochester’s Dr.Nancy L.Kuntz (pictured above)and Dr.Moses Rodriguez are co-directors of one of the six PediatricCenters of Excellence that provide specialized pediatric care tochildren with MS.The centers were funded as a part of the NationalMS Society’s Promise: 2010 Campaign.
Every day, around the world, researchers work to unravel themystery of MS.

“Attending MS Society getaways
has helped us move forward —
as individuals, as a couple and
as a family.”
Susan and Mark Caffrey understand that MS affects not just theperson with the disease and that coping with the challengesof a chronic illness often calls for a team effort. That’s why Mark, diagnosed with MS more than 15 years ago, and his wife, Susan, attended the Couple’s Getaway where they learned about facingMS together and met other couples living with the disease.Susanand Mark also attended the chapter’s annual Family Getaway, along with their three children, and learned about dealing withMS as a family.

Mission Stars The extraordinary people listed below met an amazing challenge in 2006 by raising at least$7,500 in special events.
“I believe that supporting the National MS Society shows
good corporate citizenship. As a specialty retailer of women’s
apparel, it makes sense for Christopher & Banks to support
a disease in which women are diagnosed two to three
times more frequently than men. The MS Walk also
provides an opportunity for our 6,000 employees
to rally nationwide in support of a great cause.”
Monica Dahl, Executive Vice President and ChiefOperating Officer, Christopher & Banks Corporation
