I have been working on analyzing the

results of the survey that I sent out regarding chapter visits and work-shops people want to see at prov-ince.

In the near future I hope to be setting

up chapter visits. I also have been working with the

Graduate Development Committee to increase grad brother develop-ment on the province level.

Finally, I'm working with our illustri-

ous historian on the province news-letter and the history video compe-tition!

I can't wait to see everyone at province in Baltimore! Every time I go to a province meeting, particularly a Mountain East Province meet-ing, I always feel like I'm coming home and I know that this meeting won't be an exception. I'm excited to hang out with old friends, make new memories, and meet new brothers that have recently crossed over.

Since being elected parliamentarian this past fall, I have been hard at work the past few months. I attended Sigma's and Beta Kappa's initiations in November,

and have plans to visit other chapters this semester. I have been working on developing a possible workshop

on Robert's Rules of Order for the Spring Conclave. My province legislative com-

mittee will be getting together in January to review our cur-rent ordinances and by-laws

I will be getting in contact

soon with the chapters to en-sure that ordinances are properly up-to-date and to see if there are any changes that should be recommended.

BETA KAPPA CHAPTER University of Pittsburgh—Pittsburgh, PA

Beta Kappa just wrapped up an exciting, eventful semester with the initi-ation of a new pledge class. 30 new pledges joined the chapter after weeks of bonding with one another and learning about the history of Kappa Psi. Their en-thusiasm for the fraternity promises a bright future for our chapter. Many have expressed interest in holding leadership positions within the chapter. Elections for the upcoming year will be held at the end of January.

There were several holiday festivi-ties that Beta Kappa celebrated this past semester. In the fall, the chapter enjoyed a spooky trip to Hundred Acres Man-ner haunted house. Later in October, there was a Halloween party in which the

pledges and brothers were able to take a break from the intensive pledging process and hang out in a laid back environment. Pledges had yet another opportunity to bond with their future brothers at the an-nual lineage dinner. This event was espe-cially important, as it gave the pledges a chance to interact with older brothers who were usually away. At the end of the semes-ter, the chapter held a Christmas party and Secret Santa exchange between brothers.

The chapter kicked off the New Year with its annual ski trip. This event has al-ways been a fantastic time for brothers to kick back and relax with one another. Beta Kappa has several more exciting events lined up for the year for philanthropy and fun, including Relay for Life and formal.

DELTA EPSILON CHAPTER Duquesne University—Pittsburgh, PA

11 of our brothers went to Global Links, a non-profit organization based

out of Pittsburgh that sends excess medical supplies to underserved popula-

tions. In volunteering, we organized and packaged a variety of different items

donated from local hospitals in-

cluding needles, syringes, and

oxygen tubing. These supplies

will help hospitals in Bolivia,

Cuba, Dominican Republic, Gua-

temala, Guyana, Haiti, Hondu-

ras, Jamaica and Nicaragua as

well as a multitude of local or-

ganizations. We are looking for-

ward to working with Global

Links again very soon.

Pittsburgh has an amazing outdoor ice skating rink right in the middle of

downtown that we all will be going to together to better get to know our

brothers and classmates.

DELTA KAPPA CHAPTER Howard University—Washington, D.C.

The Delta Kappa chapter spent the semester planning and participating in an array of events. Del-

ta Kappa was able to attend two province meetings over the past few months. In September, brothers

attended the Mountain East Province conclave, hosted by Delta Epsilon in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

There, the chapter was greatly acknowledged for their accomplishments, collecting a total of four

awards. These awards included the Man Mile award, the Chapter Report award, Philanthropy award,

and Recruitment award. Delta Kappa was also able to make themselves more present on the MEP execu-

tive board. Members of the province elected Brothers Christina Peterson and Ashley Washington as MEP

Treasurer and Chaplain, respectively. Brother Vicky Shah, a Delta Kappa alum, was also elected as MEP

Webmaster. Later into the semester, Brothers Kharmen Gray and Porscha Johnson, the latter being an-

other Delta Kappa alumna, seized the opportunity to attend the Southwest province meeting in Houston,

Texas. There they had the opportunity to support and interact with Southwest brothers, enjoying a night

at a Great-Gatsby themed banquet.

The chapter also had a wonderful semester of community service opportunities. This semester’s

events included volunteering at local food banks and homeless shelters, preparing safe-sex kits for the

distribution to local teenagers, and volunteering at the 11th annual National Kidney Foundation Patient

Education Conference. One of our first community service opportunities for this semester was at Rectify:

The Race, a fundraising 5K run/walk conducted by The Ferguson Foundation to raise both money and

awareness of rectal cancer. The Ferguson Foundation was founded by Delta Kappa alumna Dr. Anissa

Ferguson. Delta Kappa brothers were able to provide blood pressure screenings and consultation to the

participants and local community members.

Brothers were also able to collaborate with Sigma chapter at the Stop Diabetes Walk, sponsored

by the American Diabetes Association, in Baltimore, Maryland. There, both Sigma and Delta Kappa

brothers helped at registration, food distribution, and at the kid’s corner. Brothers were able to interact

with each other as well as with the community, while helping children to pick and paint pumpkins. Later

in the semester, Delta Kappa brothers joined Sigma to celebrate their newest pledge class.

Though community service is a very important value of the chapter, Delta Kappa also finds pride

in providing substantial events for the Howard University College of Pharmacy student body to partici-

pate in. During the fall semester’s Kappa Psi week, the chapter was able to provide creative events for students to enjoy. The week started with a career panel, where guests working in different fields of

pharmacy were invited to speak and answer questions. Panel members consisted mostly of Delta Kappa alum, including Founding Brother Dr. Terrill Washington. Further into the week, approximately twenty students were provided a 3-course meal at an event titled “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”. The event

provided dinner etiquette coating to the attendees, while Delta Kappa brothers served the guests. To-wards the end of the week, Delta Kappa invited the student body to participate in making cards to be dis-

tributed to children at the nearby Children’s Hospital.

Overall, the past few months has been successful for Delta Kappa. Brothers are looking forward

to developing new and creative ideas and events, and implementing them over the next few months. The

Delta Kappa chapter hopes to continue to support other chapters at their events as well.

DELTA XI CHAPTER Shenandoah University—Winchester, VA

In October, Delta Xi went around to local orchards in Win-chester, VA and asked them to do-nate their pumpkins. Brothers then spent an evening carving the pump-kins that were then donated to a lo-cal nursing home to be used as their holiday decorations. Delta Xi spent the month fundraising at school and in the community for American Dia-betes Association, which culminated in the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabe-tes in Fairfax, Virginia. In November, Delta Xi hosted their highly anticipat-ed Combest bonfire, a yearly school-wide event hosted by faculty brother, Dr. Wendell Combest, for the past 16 years. The warm fire kept everyone toasty as students grilled burgers and hotdogs, cooked s’mores by the

campfire, screened an outdoor movie, and competed in a chili cook-off.

In preparation for the upcoming holiday sea-son, Delta Xi brothers teamed up with Chris-tian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI) to collect and wrap packages for Oper-ation Christmas Child, a program that sends small shoeboxes of gifts to underprivileged children all around the world. Brothers con-

BROTHER SPOLIGHT Delta Xi Regent: Cameron Stewart

To begin the new year of 2015, I had the opportunity to make the trip to Nashville, Tennessee to attend the Gulf Coast Province’s Winter Conclave. As soon as I heard there was going to be a province assembly in Nashville, I im-mediately viewed this as an excuse to travel to a destination that I’ve always wanted to visit. After talking with a few other MEPs, rooms were booked and registrations confirmed; we were going to Nashville! Having never been to a province assembly outside Mountain East, I was anxious to meet a totally new group of brothers. Although they didn’t have our standard karaoke social, we were welcomed to a downtown Nashville hotspot for dinner and great music. The Gulf Coast brothers were extremely welcom-ing and showed us a great time around downtown Nashville. What was most interesting to experience was the way that another prov-ince conducts the Saturday assembly. The MEP’s presence was very strong, and our presence was extremely well received. From an “outsider’s” point of view, it was refreshing to experience an alternative way of conducting busi-ness. This opportunity gave me a chance to view something different, and to adopt any new ideas that may be beneficial to implement in my chapter and my home province. Many ideas were shared and different topics discussed with brothers from the Golf Coast Province after the general assembly. Overall, attending an out-of-province conclave was as enjoyable of an ex-perience as I had hoped it would be. The opportunity to continue to grow the everlasting bond that we as Kappa Psi brothers share was invaluable. Along with other brothers from within the Mountain East Province, I was thrilled to represent MEP and would strongly encourage anyone who is considering at-tending another province’s conclave to do so.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the spring assembly!

EPSILON NU CHAPTER University of Maryland E.S.—Princess Anne, MD

The brothers of Epsilon Nu chapter have been working hard to make the 2014-

2015 school year a success. At the beginning of the fall semester, the brothers held a re-

view session for the first year students, this event and many others that drew the atten-

tion of the students to the fraternity. Our rush events occurred mainly in the month of Au-

gust, all of which were successful. The month of August was a special month for us be-

cause one of our graduate brothers, Dr. Lisa Odenwelder chartered the UMES Graduate

Chapter. The Grand Regent, Grand Historian, our Grand Council Deputy and brothers from

other chapters were in attendance for this memorable occasion. During the ceremony, one

of our graduate bothers, Dr. Lawrence Hogue received the Order of the Silver Mortar, an

award bestowed to brothers who have been in the fraternity for 25 years or more.

The pledging period was mainly in the month of September and on October 16,

2014, we initiated 22 new brothers, the largest line in the chapter’s recent history. As part

of community service, the brothers dedicated their time at the Halo Bargain Center where

they helped sort out clothes donated by the community. The brothers held a surprise ba-

by shower for our graduate brother, Dr. Dana Fasanella. The baby shower was collaborat-

ed with the faculties and staffs of the school of pharmacy and it was a huge success. Con-

gratulations to Dr. Fasanella for giving birth to a baby girl.

During American Pharmacist Month, some of our brothers assisted in organizing

health fair and flu clinic. The brothers helped out by giving flu shots to pharmacy stu-

dents, undergraduate students, staffs, and faculties and they also educated the public on

health issues such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertension. During the APhA Mid-

year Regional Meeting that was held in November, our brother, Saley Traore won the title

of APhA-ASP Regional Delegate for region 2. Congratulations to brother Saley for this

great accomplishment.

With the spring semester now in motion, our brothers are staying busy as we strive

to make the semester a memorable one. We are planning on doing fundraising events not

only for the chapter but for charities as well. We are also in the process of planning our

spring formal that will be held in May.

EPSILON OMICRON CHAPTER D’Youville College, Buffalo NY

The fall semester was a busy one for the brothers at Epsilon Omicron. We began our rushing season in August starting with a barbeque at a beach in Hamburg, NY. It was a good opportunity for the potential pledges to get to know our brothers as well as a good way for all of us to catch up. Rushing at our chapter goes all semester and included a trip to Skyzone, Becker Farms as well as a bowling night to end the rushing season. Our chapter is also involved in a lot of philanthropic events during the fall se-mester. In August, we helped out the Boys

and Girls Club with their third annual Backpack Giveaway in South Buffalo. Our brothers worked with other members of the community and helped assemble over 1000 back-packs for local students. We also participated, along with Buffalo Grad, in the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes Committee. Our School of Pharmacy team raised $1,626.00 to help support diabetes research, information, and advocacy. DEA Drug Drop Off is also an event that Epsilon Omicron is involved in every se-mester. Brothers were at one of 32 drop off locations across Western New York and thou-sands of pounds of unused prescriptions were collected to be disposed of properly. Other events that we were involved in included Meals on Wheels for Thanksgiving, Habitat for Humanity and Trunk or Treat, a safe alternative to trick or treating to children living in at-risk neighborhoods.

With the start of our spring semester, we are looking forward to pledging season and ini-tiating new brothers into the fraternity as well as being involved in more philanthropic events.

BUFFALO GRADUATE Buffalo, NY

Greetings from Buffalo, New York! We are looking forward to another active year in 2015 within the Buffalo Graduate Chapter. We pride our-selves on hosting as many events as possible to give all graduate Brothers in the Western New York area an opportunity to support our local collegiate Brothers, as well as a chance to maintain connections and friendships amongst all Graduate members of Kappa Psi in our area. We particularly would like to welcome all Brothers who may come to our area for rotations and residencies. Information on our activities can be found on our Face-book page, which you can access by contacting our chapter secretary, Mat-thew Sciara, via email at [email protected]

You may be aware, Buffalo is a huge sports town! So most of our gath-erings revolve around our area teams. We are looking forward to having group outings again this year to see the Sabres (hockey), Bandits (lacrosse), Bisons (baseball) and Bills (football), as the year goes by. We also will be bringing back our philanthropic and professional support projects, includ-ing a continuing education lecture in April, our annual participation in the StepOut Walk to Stop Diabetes in October, and our Toys for Tots Holiday Party in December.

Finally, to give all graduate brothers a chance to stay active, we hold 10 chapter meetings each year, on the last Monday of each month, excluding May and December. Meetings are currently held at MacGregor’s Grill on Ma-ple Road in Amherst, NY, near the University at Buffalo’s North Campus. So-cial Hour starts at 8:15pm, followed by a short business meeting at 9:15pm. On behalf of all the Buffalo Graduate Chapter officers, we invite any Broth-ers, both locally and across the country, to join us.

DISTRICT OF COLUMNIA GRADUATE Washington, D.C.

DC Grad has had quite the year full of inspiration and love! On September 6th, several brothers of DC Grad and accompanying broth-ers from our neighboring collegiate chapter, Delta Kappa, participated in the Rectify the Race 5K. This particular event was dear to our hearts as it was sponsored by The Ferguson Foundation, Inc. - founded by our chap-ter's own and courageous rectal cancer survivor, Brother Dr. Anissa L. Ferguson. Her non-profit foundation strives towards providing aware-ness, advocacy, services, and support for all individuals and survivors af-fected by rectal cancer. We are very proud of all of her philanthropic con-tributions towards the advancement of health care! In the spirit of congratulatory news, Dr. Nicole Liu welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world this year! Love is in the air! DC Grad brothers Drs. Erika (Trevino) Romeus and Dave Romeus, as well as Drs. Seema (Harikumar) Ledan and Louis Ledan tied the highly anticipated knot of wedded bliss! We are also thrilled to announce the upcoming nuptials of Brother Dr. Christyn Mullen. DC Grad is beyond proud of our chapter brother, Dr. Joseph Ofosu, for his instrumental role in the chartering of Kappa Psi's newest addition, the Zeta Iota Chapter. The chartering will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the University of St. Joseph's School of Pharmacy in West Hart-ford, CT. We hope that you will attend in support. PITTSBURGH GRADUATE Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh Grad got together in December for a holiday meeting and pot-

luck. New officers were elected and plans for the spring were discussed. We're

hoping to arrange another interchapter ice skating excursion with the colle-

giate brothers of Beta Kappa and Delta Epsilon. The chapter is also looking to

have another blanket making potluck for Project Linus in the late winter/early

spring.

We look forward to the Mountain East Spring Province Assembly in Balti-

more this April and seeing plenty of familiar faces. If any brothers in the Pitts-

burgh area are interested in joining up with the chapter, please contact Liz

Poole Van Dyke ([email protected]) for information on our upcoming

events.

Luke Berenbrok and Chris

Miller enjoy the Pittsburgh

Grad Secret Santa.

Brothers of Mountain East Province (MEP),

The 57th Grand Council Convention (GCC) is quickly approaching. Be-

fore you know it, August will be here. So, start making travel plans to the

Mile High City! This is an international conference that meets every 2 years.

Many important and relevant fraternal decisions are made that will affect all

Chapters. Quality workshops and a roundtable event offer excellent net-

working opportunities for Collegiates and Graduates. It is a time to enjoy a

ton of fellowship and meet Brothers from all over the United States, Canada,

and the Bahamas.

This is truly a LIFE CHANGING event! For all of the above reasons,

EVERY MEP Chapter should be represented! Some of you are curious about

updates since we all met in September. Registration will be opening soon.

Collegiates, try to request funding from your College. Hold additional Chap-

ter fundraisers. Try your best to lessen some of these costs. GCC is well

worth the effort.

Another update is that an afternoon spousal tea at the historical Brown

Palace Hotel has been secured for all the spouses. Don’t worry, if your signif-

icant other isn’t particularly fond of tea, there will be another activity option.

There is more to be decided in the next couple of months. Stay tuned for ad-

ditional updates in the near future! See you all in Denver!

Fraternally,

Latha Radhakrishnan, Pharm.D, BCPS, BCOP

Grand Vice-Regent
