West Dover, Vermont (February 22, 2016) -- Mount Snow Academy (MSA) announced the purchase of Matterhorn Inn in West Dover, Vermont. MSA has signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire this iconic inn in the Deerfield Valley and plans for occupancy September 2016. A fixture at Mount Snow since its founding in 1972, the winter academy has never had its own campus. The announcement was made Saturday night in front of a record crowd at MSA’s annual fundraising Gala. Long time board member and masters alpine race enthusiast, Elliot Cooperstone, reflected on the need to give a home to an academy that has been bursting at the seams. This is the second step in the board’s vision to more than double the size of the winter academy to 55 student athletes.

Last July, Todd Ormiston was introduced as the new Head of School, bringing his experience of building successful on-snow programming. “Our purchase of the Matterhorn Inn provides the opportunity to continue developing academic and athletic programming, while expanding our student population. Our new campus is a reflection of the rich history of MSA and a sign of things to come.” The 15,000 square foot facility will immediately house MSA’s unique one-to-one academic tutorial programming and boarding students. It is also the future site of an athletic fitness and anti-gravity facility. Mount Snow Academy has been recognized for its individualized approach to academics and elite snow sports programming. “As an alum of MSA and a parent of two kids in MSA’s weekend Jumpstart training program, I cannot be more elated. As a board, we recognize the potential for MSA to grow its presence outside the Deerfield Valley and are excited for the future,” adds Shawn Byron, Board President, MSA. Its winter term tutorial program allows elite skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to pursue their athletic dreams in the winter, while maintaining their school and home life the fall and the spring. ###
