ONEHUNGA TO THE RESCUE. WhenMount Roskill woke up this morning andfound itself without water there wasconsternation, but the local road boardsoon got to work and by mid-day theresidents had plenty, Mt. Roskill usuallygets its supply from the city. When thesupply failed this morning the boardcould have had its requirements
supplied by One Tree Hill, but the cityhad got in before it there, and bought400.000 gallons a day from the OneTree Hill Borough Council. The roadboard then turned to Onehunga whichdraws its supply from the never failingsprings down by the Manukau Harbour,
just to the east of the railway station. The borough, which is Mt. Roskill'sclosest neighbour, agreed to supply300,000 gallons a day. In order toconnect up the board system with theOnehunga supply it was necessary tomake a connection at the- Royal Oak!corner, and to do this a gang of workmen was put on as soon as thenegotiations were completed. Thisbusiness-like arrangement beingsmartly carried into effect reduced Mt.Roskill's inconvenience to a matter of only a few hours.

Korma Textiles ad, 1949-1950.
Dating from c.1945, the Korma Textilesfactory in Royal Oak (within Mt RoskillBorough) was a major employer for women. The name changed to Holeproof Mills in1957, and taken over by Dunedin's AllianceTextiles in 1980. Today, most of the factory
has been demolished closest to Mt AlbertRoad and replaced by retail development.
Only a smidgen of the original buildingremains as part of the Sanitarium factory.
And finally...
A HIGH FIVE!!
You will be aware of the wonderful news thatthe Auckland Council Strategy and FinanceCommittee has agreed to allocate $3.6 millionfor the restoration of the original Council1950's Building at 3 Kings for communityuse!
So we now have the beginnings of a heritageprecinct in Three Kings, a quarter where
history is beautifully preserved in amongst thethe new intensification coming to thesurrounding areas. So well done the Mt Roskill (Puketapapa)Historical Society, Michael Wood (our Heritage person on the Local Board) and theLocal Board for continuing to push for thisgreat result.
