Ideas for teaching Maths at home using playing cardsHere are some suggestions for you to try with P-2:
- Play a game of concentration with number cards 1-10 (A=1). (How to play: Shuffle the cards and lay them upside down on the table
in rows and columns. Players take turns to turn over two cards at a time. They keep the cards if the numbers match; otherwise put
them back in the original place. Winner is the player with the most cards)
- Add the two numbers on the playing cards.
- Ask them to show you friends of 10. (eg. 2 and 8 make 10. 3 and 7 make 10.
Here are some suggestions for you to try with older ones:
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division: Flip 2 cards and make a two-digit target number. Each player then flips 3 or 4
cards and tries to make the target number using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The player who makes a number
closest to the target number wins.
