FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

The students and staff have returned to school with a spring in their step and a smile on their faces. We welcome two new families and students Lachlan (kindy) and his brother Mitchell (pre-primary) and Hannah (year4 ) and her sis-ter Rachelle (year 1).

Mrs Susan Andersson, Manager Corporate Services and Ms Sophie Kaden Visual Arts specialist teacher have joined our staff.

Independent Public School 2017

Unfortunately Mount Claremont Primary School’s expression of interest to be-come an Independent Public School was not successful. I will obtain feedback to share with the school community, staff and members of the school council. It is a highly competitive process and further opportunities may be announced in the future.

School Development Day

Yesterday the staff were engaged in professional learning which included;

School Self Assessment through whole school analysis of student per-formance data.

Operational Planning for 2017 linked to Department of Education strate-gic directions: Focus 2017, Aboriginal and Cultural Standards Frame-work.

Review and audit of the National Quality Standards in the early years.

Implications of NAPLAN online by 2019. ICT digital technologies and readiness.

School Grounds

During the school holidays the ceilings were replaced in the student toilets, English store room and the administration foyer resulting in a much welcomed improvement. . Under battening was completed in rooms 1-4 and my office. The look is not fabulous, but it is a short term solution until the Department has a plan to repair to the roof and then replace the ceilings. Another mature tree was uprooted in a storm during the holidays.

Congratulations to the pre-primary class for performing an outstanding assem-bly on the last day of term. They were the best robots ever!

WESTERN SUBURBS SECONDARY SCHOOLING PLAN

During the school holidays the Government announced a new secondary school will be built on the former

City Beach High School site opening in 2020 with an estimated 250 Year 7 students and expanding to 1600

Year 7 to 12 students by 2025.

The announcement of the new school is one part of a plan to address the increasing demand for secondary

schooling in the western suburbs. Other initiatives include increasing student capacity at Shenton College,

Churchlands Senior High School and Carine Senior High School.

To make way for the new school, current lease holders on the former City Beach High School site have

agreed to relocate in 2019. This will see the International School of Western Australia move onto the Dou-

bleview Primary School site and the Japanese School in Perth move to the City Beach Primary School site.

PARKING—Keep our kids safe

There is absolutely no vehicles or parking allowed on the bitumen basketball court (market area) between

7:00am and 6:00pm.. No parking , no vehicle entry to the area, no cars, no dropping off or picking., no

parking around the edges. This is a designated play area.. There is plenty of parking around the perimeter

of the school or at the front entrance. Please don't take offence, just keep our kids safe.

FRONT DRIVEWAY

The front lawn and grassed “car park” has been badly damaged by wet weather and water erosion. The

area is uneven and still muddy. Please take care when walking around this area. If any parents can offer a

solution, Mrs Oakes would like to hear from you.

STUDENTS NOT RETURNING

Planning has commenced for next year. If your child is not attending the school in 2017 please advise in

writing to the principal, private and confidential.

Welcome back, we hope you enjoyed your holidays!

We have thought up some great new activities during the break and can’t wait to share them with you in After School

Care. We have some amazing new healthy recipes to cook with the kids – and of course eat afterwards! As well as

science, art/craft, outdoor games and lots more so come along and join in the fun.

First Time = Fun Time!

Every day we welcome kids who are a mix of familiar faces, occasional visitors, and first timers. It is part of what

makes every day unique. We make sure that we design a program that addresses the needs and interests of every-

one who attends each day. Part of this is making sure our first timers are given a warm welcome so that they soon

feel at home in the program just like the kids that come along every day.

Stop by and say ‘hi’

If you are wondering how we make kids smile in After School Care, feel free to drop by, say hi, and see what is go-

ing on first hand, just don’t be surprised if your child wants to stay!

We look forward to seeing you and your family soon.

The Camp Australia Team.
