FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

We are healthy, happy and glad to be back!

Thank you for being amazing and adapting well to the changes at the school. Your patience and consideration for others at drop-off and pick-up is contributing to the smooth transition of new routines.

From Kindergarten to Year 6 every student has adapted incredibly well to the changes. The children are showing increased independ-ence, confidence, resilience and surprisingly, less separation anxiety. Older children are being very responsible, looking after siblings and taking them to and from the gates or driveway.

Office staff and teachers have reported a much calmer and quieter start to the school day. We are so grateful to have most students back at school along with some structure and familiar routines.

Current attendance rate is 86% with 14% engaged in learning at home under the guidance of teachers. Daily attendance is recorded for all students either at school or learning at home. As Principal, I have a reasonability to ensure all students are engaged in an educa-tional program devised by the school. There is an expectation that students at home will be completing learning packages and activities set by the teacher. Teachers will be in contact with parents to provide assistance. To the children and parents at home “keep up the great work!”

We are being vigilant with good hygiene practices and with regular cleaning of classrooms, toilets, play areas and equipment. The na-ture playground will be re-opened as of tomorrow.

The Department of Education and Health are providing schools with regular updates for COVID-19 and parents will be informed accord-ingly. Special thanks to Mrs Johnson and Mrs Fullerton for working during the holidays to help me prepare the staff and community for Term 2.

Term 2, Week 2

Thank you for keeping sick children at home. Some parents have ensured children have a medical clearance from the GP to return to school. This is not compulsory, but I was touched that parents have gone to such lengths to reassure the school that their children are well.

A reminder that the flu vaccine is available free for children and encouraged for adults. Downloading the CovidSafe app is a personal preference, but is has been downloaded by most staff.

Lunch and Ride

We will start to include some activities for students at school. Sadly, no parents on site still applies until further notice. Our first event is “Lunch & Ride” for Years 1-3 on Tuesday, 12 May and Years 4-6 on Wednesday, 13 May. Children can bring their scooter or bikes (helmets compulsory) to ride during lunch time on the black court. Mr Staples has some great ideas for the track! The bike shed gates are locked daily so it is not necessary to have individual bike locks. If this is successful, it may be contin-ued.

There is a bit of storm damage around the school. Room 6 had damaged celling panels but thankfully it didn't wet the new carpet, which looks fabulous!

The administration upgrade is progressing and about to go to tender.

Have a lovely Mother’s Day with your group of 10 people.

With the change in weather please make sure that your child brings a jacket to school.

Also, before and after school activities have been suspended until further notice to ensure the welfare of students and staff on school premises.

Kindy News

Kindy have been hard at work.

At home they have planned, designed and built their own cubbies. As well as cutting and counting using fine motor skills and enjoying nature play, plus learning about our amazing outdoors in WA.

Back to school we continued to work on cutting skills, building space ships with the blocks and shapes and blowing kisses to our Mums for our Mother's Day cards.

CAMP AUSTRALIA

We’re here for you, as you’re here for us.

Welcome back to everyone after a well-deserved term break. Whether you’re learning from home, or

here at school, we look forward to a new and improved Term 2. We thank you for all your continued

support and patience through these challenging times.

We understand Outside School Hours Care is vital for many parents that are not able to work from

home, so that you can continue to provide essential work for the nation. Our OSHC service is open and

operating for those that need our care, and will provide your children with much-needed familiarity and

continuity through our engaging programs that have an increased focus on hygiene and social distanc-

ing. We offer a safe environment at your school for children to get active, try new things, connect with

friends and relax.

As per the recent State Government advice, from Wednesday 29th April, public schools are open for all students whose parents or carers choose to send them to school. Parents can choose whether their children return to school for face-to-face teaching or learn from home. For families who require care, childcare will be provided free of charge until 30th June as per the Federal Government's announcement on the 2nd April.

Whilst care is free, we still need to know if you are coming. We ask that you get your bookings in as

soon as you can, so that we can staff and resource the service appropriately, to best care for your chil-

dren.

It’s FREE to Register. (and if you want to use OSHC, you first need to register).

Register at pp.campaustralia.com.au/account/login. Once registered, it’s easy to make and manage

your bookings online via our Parent Portal.

Visit our blog for helpful information and fun activities.

New articles are added each week for parents and cover various topics to help families. This month we are focusing on all things COVID-19. We talk about how to adjust to the changes you’ve made in your household, including fun activity ideas to entertain your child at home. Visit the blog here: https://campaustralia.com.au/blog
