Course Outline and Assessment
Description of Course: This course focuses on level 6 of the Health and
Physical Education curriculum.
Course Description
Understand and appreciate, as a result of experience, the factors
that influence a students own participation in physical activity.
Meet and manage challenges and risks in positive, health enhancing
ways.
Develop and apply, in context, a wide range of movement skills.
Apply scientific knowledge to improve physical abilities.
Increase the understanding of personal identity and develop
sensitivity to, and respect for, other people.
Use interpersonal skills effectively to enhance relationships.
Find out how societal attitudes, values, beliefs and practices affect
well-being.
Assessment
The Year 11 Physical Education course contributes 20 credits towards the
Level 1 National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA).

ASSESSMENT POLICY AND PROCEDURES
The Physical Education Department will operate in accordance with the
College’s NCEA policies. It is important that you read and understand the
rules and regulations relating to NCEA in the student handbook. These
include:

Retention of Student work
Student Obligations
PLEASE NOTE:
Assessment/Re-assessment
In the event you do not pass the standard at Summative assessment time
you may be provided with an opportunity to reassess your work at the
teacher’s discretion.
Late work:
Work submitted late for any internally assessed standards will not be
marked. If there is a genuine reason or explanation why you are unable to
submit the work then you are able to apply for an extension. This should
occur prior to the due date and not after. Approach your subject teacher
and make your case. Read the NCEA student handbook for more
information.
YOU’RE OBLIGATIONS:
1 Ensure you understand the assessment programme.
2 Check the accuracy of the assessment when work is returned.
3 Ensure you understand the requirements of each assessment.
4 Discuss concerns with the teacher before they become a problem.
5 Understand the implications of the College’s NCEA policies.
