layering 101 Selecting a quality technical outerwear shell is a very important step to a comfortable and safe trip into the backcountry, but as important as the shell is, the underlayers are just as crucial. Synthetic shirt and pant “underlayers” should be worn beneath your outerwear for highest performance. Wearing jeans, cotton Tees and sweatshirts greatly inhibit the proper function of your outerwear and could even jeopardize your personal safety in an emergency situation. MotorFist® offers a 3 step layering lineup that can be tailored to your individual comfort level and diverse weather conditions.

N2S SHIRT & PANTSN2S stands for “Next (to) Skin” and is the base layer you wear first. Featuring Cocona Fabric for its industry leading wicking properties, this layer is needed for comfort and performance. The N2S pulls sweat away from your body, absorbs odor and provides a small amount of warmth and should be worn in all weather conditions.

HYDROPHOBIC JACKET & PANTSThe Hydrophobic layer is a second layer to be worn over the N2S layer. This layer is needed to further enhance moisture management and provides a significant amount of warmth. It excels in the temps and riding style found in the western mountains. It is also a great cold weather layer for those who do not get cold easily. A benefit of the hydrophobic fleece is the fact that you can wear it while fueling up or around the cabin and not look like you are in your underwear.

TURNAGAIN PASS JACKET & PANTSThe Turnagain Pass Fleece can be used as a second layer over the N2S or a third layer over the Hydrophobic Fleece in extreme cold. The primary function of this layer is warmth but it is also excellent at moisture management. The Turnagain Fleece was designed for sub-zero conditions and/or riding at high speeds for extended periods of time that may be common to northern climates or flatland riding conditions. This is a very warm layer and also functions well as cabin wear or a daily jacket.

OUTER SHELL JACKET & PANTS/BIBSOur Rekon, Sidehill, Recession, Redline and Empress outershells provide waterproof and windproof protection from the elements while allowing the moisture (sweat) from your body to escape. This is the most essential part of keeping you dry.
