Most of you reading this, are probably familiar with the
show
Slide 3
Some of you may read the books
Slide 4
If so, you may be wondering, who in seven hells is this guys
mother?
Slide 5
Slide 6
For those who KNOW NOTHING, lets catch you up to speed...
Slide 7
This is Jon Snow.
Slide 8
Slide 9
Exactly!
Slide 10
Jon Snow is the bastard child of Lord Eddard Stark, honorable
Warden of the North. You can call him Ned.
Slide 11
Before he left for Kings Landing, he told Jon Snow
Slide 12
Slide 13
Then this happened
Slide 14
( Rest in Peace, Ned Stark)
Slide 15
Leaving Jon Snows parentage up in the air
Slide 16
So for thousands of years, readers have awaited the sequel to A
Dance with Dragons and pondered the question: Who is Jon Snows
mother?
Slide 17
Some claim she was a fishermans daughter.
Slide 18
Others swear its Ashara Dayne... And some whisper tales of a
low-born woman named Wylla
Slide 19
One things for sure "She must have been a rare wench to make
Lord Eddard Stark forget his honor. Robert Baratheon (RIP)
Slide 20
Which begs the question: would Ned Stark really abandon his
honor and cheat on his wife?
Slide 21
Well, he was away from her for a year, fighting a war
Slide 22
And Jon does poss many characteristic of a Stark Honor Loyalty
Warg Resting Bitch face Great hair
Slide 23
But whats up with all this Promise me, Ned stuff?
Slide 24
In book 1, before his tragic execution, Ned Stark recalls his
sister, Lyannas death, and final words to him half a dozen times
throughout his point of view chapters..
Slide 25
The phrase Promise me, Ned is repeated throughout the first
book, leaving readers to wonder, what was this great promise Ned
made to his sister before she died?
Slide 26
Slide 27
His sister, Lyanna, was betrothed to Robert Baratheon, but
loved by many
Slide 28
Including Rhaegar Targaryen, noble Prince and heir to the Iron
Throne
Slide 29
Ok. Youre probably wondering, WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS HAVE TO DO
WITH JON SNOWS MOTHER?!
Slide 30
Well, I propose... (drum roll please)
Slide 31
That Ned is not Jons father at all. The mother of Jon Snow is
Lyanna Stark, and his father is Rhaegar Targaryen.
Slide 32
Slide 33
Lets look at the facts. Rhaegar openly loved and admired
Lyanna, so Robert Baratheon waged a war because, among other
things, he insisted that Rhaegar had captured Lyanna
Slide 34
But lets be serious. Would you rather ? OR
Slide 35
Rhaegar was the man. He was loved by all for his charm,
swordsmanship, compassion and undeniable good looks, and with that,
came jealous enemies.
Slide 36
So its possible that Lyanna secretly loved Rhaegar, as much as
he loved her, but their affair was kept secret because of her
betrothal to Robert and her loyalty to her family
Slide 37
And that the promise Ned made to her at the Tower of Joy was to
keep her child, later named JON SNOW, safe from harm
Slide 38
So why didnt Ned just tell everybody that?
Slide 39
Well, because his best friend and newly appointed King, Robert,
had a bit of a temper, and was already on a Targaryen-slaughtering
spree that year
Slide 40
So he would have killed the baby had he known: 1. He was half
Targ 2. He was the son of his worst enemy and the woman he
loved
Slide 41
Lyanna knew this, so she made Ned promise her that he wouldnt
tell anyone who the true parents of the baby were
Slide 42
So lets recap: Ned=honorable. His cheating just doesnt match
the rest of what we know about him
Slide 43
But nobody could deny that Jon is part Stark, and Lyanna did
look a lot like Ned
Slide 44
Lyanna + Rhaegar =
Slide 45
Oh yeah. And...
Slide 46
Its very unlikely that GRRM would put such a strong emphasis on
the mystery surrounding Snows mother, if he isnt going to
eventually reveal who she is
Slide 47
So, to answer the age old question once and for all...
