Henry Gwyn Jeffreys Moseley

Moseley was born in Weymouth, England, 1887. In 1906 he entered Trinity College, University of Oxford, and selulusnya from there proceed to the University of Manchester to work with Ernest Rutherford. During his first year in Manchester, he has a full teaching load, but after a year he was relieved of his teaching duties and start a full-time research.

He died at the age of 27 years, Moseley could contribute much to the knowledge of atomic structure if he is still alive. As Niels Bohr once said in 1962, "Surely you see the work of Rutherford [the nuclear atom] was not used in earnest. We can not understand today, but Rutherford's work is not used in earnest. No matter where they call. A major change came from Moseley. " There had been speculation since the death of Moseley in soon fought British rule prohibiting scientists enrolled in the military.

The definition

Moseley's law is an empirical law of the characteristic x-rays emitted by the atom.

It is historically important in quantitatively justifying the conception of the nuclear model of the atom, with all or nearly all positive charges of the atom located in the nucleus, and associated on an integer basis with atomic number .

Until Moseley's work, "atomic number" was merely an element's place in the periodic table, and was not known to be associated with any measureable physical quantity.

Atomic Number

Moseley’s Law This suggested that there is a

gradual increase of 'something' as we move higher her up in the periodic table.. This number is none other than the number of protons, what we call today as the 'atomic number'. So, elements were arranged thereafter not based on the atomic weight but based on the atomic number.

The Continue

With this change the anomalies existed previously vanished automatically. Hence, Moseley re-arranged the periodic table based on atomic number. He expressed his observations mathematically as

Where g is the frequency, z = atomic number and a, b constants.

This is called Moseley's law. This law goes hand in hand with Bohr's atomic model.
