From Cynthia Ringsell from the Morton Village Hall Committee We had a table top sale last Sunday the 7th Feb , which was advertised in the Morton Community News. Thanks you. Above is a photo of the busy event. We had a very successful afternoon, with twenty eight tables, who reported good sales and over one hundred satisfied customers. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz U3A Bridge The group meets every Wednesday from 10.00 until 12.00 in the Village Hall. Originally it started as a teaching group but is now for social bridge and we would welcome new members who have experience of playing the game. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed but we do take our bidding and play seriously - there would be little point in playing if we didn’t! It costs £1.00 per week to play and , should you wish to join us, you would also have to sign up to be a member of the Gainsborough and District U3A club. This costs £13.00 per year, but would entitle you to attend our monthly meetings at the Methodist Church in Gainsborough and participate in other activities. The monthly meetings are from 10.30 until 12.00 on the second Thursday of the month and we have speakers on a wide variety of topics. All details about the U3A local organisation is available on our web-site. Simply search for Gainsborough U3A. It is fair to say that the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the Bridge group is typical of all the groups within our organisation.

Town Councilor Liz Clews is campaigning to improve the medical cover in Gainsborough

Councilor Liz Clews has started a petition to raise awareness of recent changes to medical cover. The petition states: “We the undersigned are dismayed that Gainsborough has had its out of hours GP services has been completely withdrawn and we are petitioning for a fair allocation of cover across Lincolnshire.” Liz said: “Medical cover has been stripped in Gainsborough and is decreasing at a time the population in the town is increasing. “Why in the last few months has the GP Out of Hours service stopped it’s weekend cover at John Coupland Hospital, while at the same time smaller towns like Louth and Stamford, have more than 12 hours both Saturday and Sunday. “We only ever had four hours on a Saturday and four hours on a Sunday.” “I, with the help from the public, am setting up a campaign and bringing it to the town council’s attention as a motion in February.” Mayor of Gainsborough, Coun Matthew Boles, said: “In terms of the out of hours service at John Coupland Hospital, I can personally vouch for how valued and needed this is having used it with my young daughter without the need for a visit to Accident and Emergency which we are constantly advised not to do. This service, in my mind, must remain in Gainsborough and any proposal to cut it should be challenged in the strongest terms.” Since this report on the Standard we have had a statement from John Coupland Hospital confirming the cancellation of Out of Hours GP’s. This has gone to Full Town Council meeting and we will be taking it to the commissioners of our Trust and our MP Edward Leigh for inequality of the only Lincolnshire Town to be exempt of this service the people of Gainsborough pay for.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CHANGE THIS. It affects everyone! Petition sheets are available.

Every signature will make a difference please ask friends, family, work colleagues.

Forthcoming Date for the diary: Morton Feast weekend will be 8th, 9th and 10th July 2016. The committee is aiming to run the popular events of the Fun run on the Friday evening 8th, Football and tug of war tournament in the morning of 9th with the traditional stalls and events 11am – 1pm in the school and on the Sunday a Village community service at the church followed by Cricket on the playing field.

Morton Trentside Primary School We are very grateful that PING Europe have very kindly sponsored the school for £1000 which will be used for sports kit to support our ever growing successful sports teams. March will be a very busy month for the sports teams at Morton Trentside Primary School. We have over the last year made tremendous developments in our sports programme and our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Swimming Teams and the year 5/6 Goalball teams achieving outstanding success in competitive sport and we are proud to celebrate reaching no other than four county finals!!!! Our school swimming team also took the title of Medium School Champions at the Gainsborough Annual Swimming Gala. The school dance crew of year 4 and 6 pupils were successful at the Priory City of Lincoln Academy competition, part of the Sainsbury’s school games, and have qualified for the county final on Sunday March 6th. This term has been very busy for non sporting achievements as well: Mini Morton’s, pre school nursery for age 3 and 4 children opened in the mornings in September from 9am until 12.00 noon and has been a great success, we have now extended and have 23 children attending. The school collaborated with Gainsborough House to hold a Beetle Drive which was very successful and thoroughly enjoyed by both the friends, grandparents, parents and pupils who attended. Year 4 pupils have put together a newspaper with the assistance of Lincoln University showing what has been going on at the school over the last term. Copies of this will be popping through some village letterboxes over the next week. Year 6 went on a trip to the Power Station, Year 5 went to the pantomime and Year 4 went to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Year 3 and Year 6 learned First aid. The children have requested an outside classroom and have put together ideas and plans of what they wish to see in it. Unfortunately schools are not allocated money towards outdoor learning and therefore we have to either do the work ourselves or seek financial support to put together the children’s plans. A lot of work has already been done by staff, pupils and parents in the outside area clearing overgrown plants and weeds and we have two volunteer days to develop it further but we would really appreciate any help or financial assistance that anyone can give us. Please contact the school office if you think you could help us as any help would be very much appreciated.

From all at MCN and Morton Residents a BIG thankyou to Mr and Mrs Ron Cawte for all their help over the years distributing the Morton Community News, their help and support has been very much appreciated and also for the service on the Village Hall Committee and on the Parish Council. From the MCN we are now looking for someone to take over their area – Ropery Road from The Ship Pub to the hospital.
