Term 3- Week 10—18th September 2019
Principal’s Report
End of term
On Friday school finishes at 2:30pm and the buses will leave shortly aer that me. It is, of course,
‘Footy Colours day’ where students are encouraged to wear an item/items of footy clothing to support
their favourite team and it’s also the day of the annual Grand final Breakfast which will be held in the
undercover area commencing at 8am. It would be great to see lots of families at the breakfast.
Sun Smart policy
Just another reminder that the school’s Sun Smart policy comes into effect from the first day of next
term. Everyone is expected to wear a hat when outside at recess and lunchme and also during outside
acvies such as PE. Please ensure that your child has a hat each day and that it is clearly named.
Green bucket hats can be purchased from the school’s uniform shop.
Year 12 Revision
Our Year 12 students will, of course, need to spend some significant me on holiday homework and revi-
sion work as their final exams are very close at hand. I’m sure they don’t need reminding that they only
have a li4le more than two weeks of classes remaining next term and their first exam is on Wednesday
30 October.
Make Up Parent Teacher Interviews
We have set aside the first Wednesday 9th
October of Term 4 for Parent/Teacher interviews that need to
be made up for Mr Keang and Miss Jusn. Please log on and book your appointment in the school-
interviews.com.au.
School Uniform – repeat
Have your say about our school uniform. The students have had the opportunity to parcipate in a stu-
dent focus group, which will connue. The student’s priories are to have black shorts available for eve-
rybody as part of the new uniform. The students would like to have a mascot and also some changes to
sports uniform. Other suggesons have been a school hoodie, a beanie for winter, and a warmer jacket.
Staff and school councillors have had discussions and now it is your turn. Please send any uniform sug-
gesons into the school office. However please note we will not be making any major changes to our
uniform at the moment however we are more likely to adopt a few addions that have a focus on inclu-
sivity and that are not cost prohibive. The students will connue to meet so please send in you sug-
gesons.

FOOTBALL
AFL 9s
Morning everyone, last Friday, a
group of 5/6 girls played AFL 9s
Football against other local schools.
Our first game was against St Pats
A, which we lost. The next games
were against Terang A and Terang
B, unfortunately we lost both of these games as well.
Aer the 3 games we had a break. Before we went out on the field, they introduced us
to an AFLW player from the Geelong Football Club, Georgia Clarke, who spoke to us
about her pathway to become an AFLW listed player.
Next the students had a challenge to see who could kick the furthest. We then played
two more games, one against Camperdown which we won by 32 points and the other
one against St Pats which we lost.
Overall the day was a huge success and we all had heaps of fun.
And thanks to Mr Boyden for the day.
By Holly Jones Grade 5
We also had a number of our
year 4s parcipang last
Thursday, who enjoyed a
great day of football.
Advance Snow Camp On Monday 9
th September ten students from the Advance class travelled over 6 hours to
Mount Buller Resort.
Student experienced one of the best snow condions in recent year and were exposed to
picturesque scenery as well as great food and accommodaon.
Students had ski lessons Tuesday and Wednesday morning and then were able to pracce
their learnt skills in the aernoon each day. It was pleasing to see all students display a
high amount of resilience to connually improve aer being challenged on numerous oc-
casions.
A huge thankyou to Ms Elsie O’Neill for coming on camp. Her experience and support on
the slopes was invaluable.

SAME-DAY NOTIFICATION OF UNEXPLAINED STUDENT ABSENCES
FACTSHEETFORPARENTS/CARERS
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to nofy their school as soon as possible on the day of absence
using one of the following methods:
Online: log the absence directly using your school’s IT plaRorm. (Skoolbag)
Telephone: the school office and let the staff know your child’s name, class, date of absences and rea-
son.
Email: the school and provide the staff with your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason.
Nofying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps
ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
Why do I need to no5fy the school if my child is absent? Schools need to know when and why a child is absent and you need to know if your child isn’t at school.
From the end of Term 2 2018, all Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as
praccable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a parcular day and you
have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.
This system also promotes daily school a4endance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of
your child’s educaon, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
What is your responsibility?
let the school know in advance of any upcoming absences or let them know in the
morning if your child won’t be at school. In order for schools to implement the same day noficaon require-
ment, it’s essenal that you provide the school with your most up-to-date contact details.
Generally one noficaon will be sent per family. Should there be circumstances that require both parents and
carers to be nofied, please contact the school to make the necessary arrangements.
What is the school’s responsibility?
The school must nofy you of an unexplained absence in relaon to your child as soon as praccable on the same
day.
Schools will let you know either by your school’s online communicaons app, SMS, phone call or email.
Ask your school for a copy of the A!endance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for
monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences.
PLEASE REMEMER IF YOUR CHILD IS
AWAY FROM SCHOOL TO CONTACT
