Praise the Lord! Through the mouth of the prophet Isaiah (55:10-11), the LORD our
God pronounces this promise:
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return there until they have watered the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
In my office I have one of those desktop fountains that pumps the water over the little
polished stones. At times I run the water through it daily, but occasionally I just let it sit
and if I do that for too long a period of time the water evaporates out of the pool. When
the fountain dries up and I turn the on switch it will growl and gurgle as it gasps for
water – not the pleasant, relaxing sound the fountain was created to make. But the
sounds quickly fade as I fill the fountain with water returning the fountain to its created
purpose.
We have all witnessed the effects of a draught in the world around us. The grass turns
brown and the crops fail to produce its fruit. When I lived in the North Carolina
mountains I observed power waterfalls shrivel to a trickle. It is then that the Forest
Rangers erect the fire warning signs to caution against the possibility of the destruction
and ruin that comes from the lack of rain from the heavens.
While sitting next to Jacob’s well in the Samaritan village of Sychar Jesus proclaimed, “Those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give
will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life” (John 4:14). Jesus was speaking
to a woman thirsty for love and attention, while at the same time avoiding opportunities
for interaction with others.
Often our lives are parched, but yet we avoid the life-giving water that will quench our
thirst and bring forth the lush produce of our lives. The word of the Lord read, heard,
and sung in our personal devotional time and in corporate worship and study is the well
of the living water that will gush up within us to produce an abundant and eternal life.
I invite you to the well. Spend time drinking from the words your Bible daily. While
many read it when they rise in the morning or during a special time they carve out
during the day, what if (to continuing with the metaphor), we consider reading a passage
from the Bible every time we pour ourselves something to drink. Then with regularity,
spend time sitting and dancing in the rain showers of the word of God being poured out
from Heaven in worship and group study.
I look forward to watching the green spiritual growth and luscious fruit of good
works brought forth on our branches!
Stay thirsty my friends,
Pastor Dan

Children’s Ministry
We are looking for VBS Prayer Warriors to pray for before
and during VBS, which is June 22-26. All you need to do is during your prayer time to pray for our volunteers and
kids who will be attending. That everyone who encounters our VBS will know the love Christ has for them, that
Jesus’ love is one of a kind, an unconditional kind!
Three easy steps…
1) If you are interested please go to our website, www.morrischapel.org,
on the homepage click the “click here button to pre-register your child” which is towards the bottom of the page.
2) You will be redirected to the Morris Chapel Weird Animals webpage,
click on “Volunteer Registration”
3) Click on “apply” next to Prayer Warrior and fill out the form.
That’s it and once you have registered, I will send you a little prayer card
reminder…if you do not have access to the internet, just let me know you are interested.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

Music Notes Del Curling
Director of Music Ministries
Children’s Music News
The Sunshine Kids and Rainbow Connection children’s choirs are working on music to
present at the 11am service on Mother’s Day (May 11th) and Father’s Day (June 15th).
They will continue to meet with their leaders on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings
from 6:30 to 7pm, though the older children will practice until 7:15 this week (5/7) to
work with the adult choir on their piece for Mother’s Day.
Mothers of the elementary age choir members are invited to join the children and the
ladies of the choir this week in presenting their piece—come to their practice from 6:30
to 7:15 this week (5/7) for more info.
Parents of elementary age choir—pick up CDs this week that contains some songs that
they may be working on in coming months, so the children can be listening to and
learning the music
An accompanist is needed for the older children’s choir—if you are reasonably
proficient on the piano and are willing to volunteer some time to work with our children
to learn and share the love of Christian music, please contact Del.
Youth Music News
Youth Choir will be practicing the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays each month at 6pm. Next
practices are May 7 and May 21st.
Youth girls/ladies—come to practice this week to work on a piece to present at the
graduation service on June 8th to help celebrate our Seniors.
We have some brand new contemporary music to start working on—the plan will be to
sing with both instrumental tracks and also with original instruments, so that we can be
prepared to present the music in all 3 worship services.
Adult Music News
The adult Chancel Choir meets every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 pm in the choir room.
Childcare is now provided during the choir practice time, coordinated by Sam.
The Men’s Chorus continues to meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday evenings at 7pm—all
men of MCUMC are invited to join in this time of music and fellowship. The Men will
next be leading in worship on Memorial Day weekend (May 25th).
Miscellaneous
Anyone wishing to participate in worship by presenting a vocal or instrumental solo in the
coming weeks/months at one or more of the worship services, please contact Del—others are
always encouraged to participate/lead musically in worship, even if unable to commit to a
group that meets regularly.

- - Volunteers Needed - -
With much regret, SPRC must share that Rebecca Walker is resigning her position as Financial Secretary for Morris Chapel.
Rebecca has this message for you, the congregation of Morris Chapel.
“After hours of thought and prayer, I have decided to resign from the Financial Secretary position. I have recently taken on more responsibilities in my full time job and have been finding it difficult to find the time required for this position. I also wish to strengthen a Godly relationship with my longtime boyfriend, Jason. We come from different denominations and have found it difficult to have that mutual relationship with God while I am tied down to one specific church. I hope this journey leads us back to Morris Chapel UMC, but in the meantime, I am being called elsewhere. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as the Financial Secretary and will miss dearly all my volunteers and coworkers. This is not a goodbye--but a "see you later!"
We appreciate Rebecca’s dedication to this role over the past couple years and we wish her the very best as she moves forward.
SPRC is currently evaluating this role and will communicate next steps soon.
Mary Jo Weavil, SPRC Chairperson
