WEEKLY WISDOM
The Spirit and the Desert
Immediately after being baptized, with the Holy Spirit appearing above Him in bodily form like a dove, Jesus went into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Mark 1:12 puts it this way: “At once the Spirit drove him out into the desert.”
The Father says that the purpose was to change the desert--it would no longer be the place of death and dread. In the desert, the devil (NOT the Holy Spirit) tempts Jesus. And Jesus does not succumb, and therefore, radically changes the desert!
Instead of being a place of defeat, the desert can be a place of Victory!
Through grace, we can discover God in the desert. “I want to be where the Holy Spirit is, even in the desert” says the Father. You will want to as well.
Very powerful stories of desolation found in the desert, and how the Holy Spirit brings people through. Oh Spirit Come!!
Wild Goose can be found on FORMED and at https://thewildgooseisloose.com.Experiencing it with others makes it even more meaningful. Please join us Sundays between the Masses, and/or on Monday evenings to discover the Holy Spirit.
It is Not Too Late to Join Us!
Women’s Book Circle: Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 17, at 7:00 p.m. The book we will be discussing is “Hallelujah Anyway, Rediscovering Mercy” by Anne Lamott. All are welcome!

“CREATION CARE CORNER:”
Let’s be more mindful of the poor, the neglected, and the marginal as the Christmas Spirit awakens us to live a more Christ-like life.
What group of people are impacted most by climate change? A key factor in the increased hunger of the world is climate change. Poor countries who have contributed the least to climate change feel the worst effects. Global climate change means global sea level rise, unpredictable weather patterns with more frequent droughts, fl oods and hurricanes, etc.
Climate change and the food crisis are issues of justice, issues of life and death for billions of poor in the world, for ecosystems and species, for the Earth Herself. Pope Benedict XVI in 2007 invited everyone to adopt “a way of living, models of production and consumption marked by respect for creation and the need for the sustainable development of peoples.”
We live in an interrelated, interdependent world. Policies and our lifestyle choices not only affect us, but extend around the world and into the future. Each of us is called and has a moral responsibility to discern and execute personal actions for climate and food justice. Let’s take concrete steps to use our Creator’s gifts wisely and to live sustainably in harmony with all in the Earth community.
“Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political, and for the distribution of goods. It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day.”
~ Pope Francis

Bambinelli Sunday
During the Third Sunday of Advent, families in Italy travel to Rome and bring their baby Jesus figurines from their Nativities. During that Sunday’s noon Angelus, the Pope blesses the figurines as well as the children and families that are gathered. This is called “Bambinelli Sunday.” “The blessing of the Bambinelli as they are called in Rome-reminds us that the Nativity scene is a school of life where we can learn the secret of true joy.”
Italian Nativity scenes are much more elaborate and filled with scenes of daily life within a village (women carrying water jugs, washing clothes, children playing, market place where things are sold, etc.) The concept is that Jesus came in the midst of our busy lives. This serves to remind us that Jesus is not in the past but lives with us today and enters into the midst of our busy lives! This year, Holy Family will be celebrating Bambinelli Sunday on December 16. We are asking that all children (and adults) bring their baby Jesus figurines from their Nativity scenes to Mass on December 16. After the homily, Fr. Eric will bless the figurines, children, and everyone. This will occur at both the 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses.
Thank you for your support!!
